This week sees Election Day on Tuesday and Veteran's Day on Saturday. I know you're ready for a new week, so let's get this started!

COLLEGE FOOTBALL NEWS AND NOTES

* Reports indicate that Hall of Fame coach, Joe Paterno, has a broken left leg with some injured ligaments. The 79-year old football legend suffered this injury as one of his own players was knocked out of bounds as he slid on the turf. JoePa unfortunately took the impact of that downed player as he took out Joe Paterno's leg. Surgery on his leg is unsure at this point. The player who was in the crossfire was Penn State's Tight End, A. Quarless.

* Louisville is 8-0 for the first time since 1925. That dominance may be in trouble as Rutgers will take on The 'Ville.

WEEK 11 - SUNDAY SYNOPSIS
A once-dominating C-USA team has struggled mercilessly. That lone team will be tested as they host another proven C-USA power.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES
"Disgraceful" Southern Mississippi at Memphis
Let's begin Week 11 with a Conference USA match. Memphis has had a horrible season thus far. This would be a BIG win if Memphis can knock off Southern Mississippi at home. The University of Southern Mississippi saw one of their own, Brett Favre, play in his NFL match on Sunday. Now it's time for some future Golden Eagles to shine and sparkle under the lights. They'll be rockin' and a rollin' in Memphis. The University of Memphis has a top-flight basketball program in C-USA and also a great collegiate football team. However, this has been a season Memphis would love to forget. They have only one win on the year. The Tigers are in a position that their state's NFL counterparts (the Tennessee Titans) are in- at the bottom) are in. It's quite uncharacteristic of Memphis to lose this many games up to this point. They would at least be in Bowl Game contention at this point. And when you can't play for the postseason, there's one last thing to play for- pride. Hope of a better tomorrow. That is where Memphis is right now. Let's see if Memphis will have something to build upon for next season. The game ended as Southern Mississippi left Memphis in neutral for most of the game. But when Memphis did jump into gear, it was too little too late. No field goal kickers allowed! All touchdowns here. (42-21; Southern Mississippi)

DIVISION 1-AA GAMES
-none reported-

DIVISION 2 GAMES
* Morehouse at Miles (Rivalry: Legacy Classic)
I didn't see it, but apparently, a big fight broke out during the late stages of the game. Didn't matter. The game was already a beatdown even before the brawl. Miles won... by miles! Get it? Miles! Miles wins by miles. Alright, I give up, player! Just read the damn score and go! (38-9; MILES)

DIVISION 3 GAMES
-none reported-

JOHN'S EXTRAS

--- EVER SEEN THE NEW DODGE NITRO? ---
Speed Channel shown their Test Drive of the Dodge Nitro. The Dodge Nitro is a brand-new mid-side SUV. You know what you're getting when you have DaimlerChrysler style their machines. I thought the Caliber was a failed experiment in making a mean, yet stylish car. I hated it more that one of the most popular compacts was replaced by this thing. The Nitro is a little less hit-and-miss. I will admit that it has a very mean stance. If there's a such thing, it's fastback SUV. This thing certainly has the aggression needed to give guys the feeling that they are driving a wicked sick machine. I wished the front would look a little better. Other than that, the sides and rear are definitely aggressive. The appeal here is to try to create a midsize SUV that looks cool for the street. I'll give the Dodge boys some props. But I'll give them no more than 80% approval for this thing.

The SUV comes with 20-inch rims standard. So there are plenty of cool factor stuff. They kept using "car" in talking about this thing. It's a midsize SUV. And last I checked, midsize SUVs aren't cars. They're technically trucks. Laura Beachum(?) was the program manager of this machine.

--- AN EARLY PREVIEW OF LOUISVILLE/RUTGERS? ---
Ray Bentley, commentator in the Southern Mississippi/Memphis game mentioned that Louisville deserves to be #3 in the nation. He also gave a little preview for this Thursday's match against Rutgers. He said that Louisville is going to "blow Rutgers out of the gym."

--- WHO HAS THE BEST BARBEQUE? ---
Some games on TV talked about certain places having barbeque and good food. But... who REALLY has the best BBQ and good food? Debate at will. Speaking of which, while I don't have any cooking talent, I am a big fan of those Johnsonville Bratwursts. My stepfather cooks them up and we normally enjoy the good taste of them. But I keep hearing about beer-battered bratwurst. We never tried it at our house.

--- DO YOU LIKE RUGBY PUNTS IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL? ---
The thing I like about rugby punts in college football is that it's a quick punt. You can kind of motion out to avoid defenders. You begin to motion out like a mobile quarterback or a Tight End. The bad thing is that most of them are normally not as long as traditional punts. I think one university had a punter from England or Australia who was punting for them. I want to say it was Wisconsin, but I'm not sure. Do you like rugby punts? It's your call.

--- KATIE HNIDA... WHERE IS SHE NOW? ---
It isn't often you hear of women playing in football. But one such player was field goal kicker, Katie Hnida. This young lady played for Colorado before she transferred to New Mexico(?). I did a little reading as to where this young lady is now, and all I know about her recently is that she is planning on releasing a book called Still Kicking: My Dramatic Journey as the First Woman to Play Division One College Football on November 21st of this year (source: Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katie_Hnida ). Hnida is the first-ever woman to score a point in college football. One of the most controversial comments about Hnida was made by former(?) Colorado University coach, Gary Barnett. The controversial comment he made was: "Katie was not only a girl, she was terrible. OK? There's no other way to say it. She couldn't kick the ball through the uprights." Katie Hnida transferred to the University of New Mexico after she became a target of sexual harassment at Colorado.

More games are on tap this weekend. So get ready for more games when I learn more of them.

Good thing they play on a field.

I predict that Louisville takes a loss no one saw coming. They beat the big teams and then have a nobody come along and deliver an upset to deflate all the huge fair weather egos of the fans. As the clock ticks to zero the city of Louisville will shake with shouts of "GOD WE SUCK!" A few hours later Old Rocky Top will be flooded with thousands of traveling big blue faithful.

When the skies grow dark all cardinal red will disappear into their nests but the stands will still be filled with Kentucky Blue Wildcats on the prowl.

I can't decide who has the best barbecue. All I know is that if I don't need a wet nap it wasn't good enough.

As for Johnsonville Brats: They are very good and you can get a Johnsonville beer brat, at least in Kentucky you can.

I'll have more extras to share, but here is one I'll share right now.

This profile will be on a pathetic football team with a championship-winning basketball squad. I'm taking my profiling to a Patriot League football team with a Big East basketball team- Georgetown. In future profiles, I will add "Type" to my profiles. The "type" is generally what type of school it is ranging from anything religious to anything urban.

-Georgetown Profile

Official Name: Georgetown University
Motto: "Utraque Unum" (Both and One)
Established: Jan. 23, 1789
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Type: a Private Jesuit University
School Colors: blue and gray
Website: http://www.georgetown.edu/ ; Athletics:

DID YOU KNOW...

(1.) ...that there was controversy in its founding date? I mentioned 1789. However, the university stated that 1634 was its founding. This was the year in which Jesuit education began at. Most of this taking place even before America got its independence.

(2.) ...that Georgetown University is only two miles away from the White House and four miles away from the U.S. Capitol?

(3.) ...that Georgetown's athletics team was known as the "Hilltoppers" before they eventually changed their name to the Hoyas? The loose translation of "hoya saxa" is "what (or such) rocks!"

(4.) ...that Georgetown's basketball team hasn't won a National Championship since 1984? They beat Houston in the title game.

WOW! That's a whole lot of g:censored:damned Georgetown alums!!! Damn! But it's a proud school and for good reason. And that's your profile of Georgetown. Are they not proud for their alums?

As a brief news note, it is possible that Joe Paterno may coach this weekend when Penn State takes on Temple at home. So you've decided to come home after making the vote. You're in luck because college football is back on and ready for your watching delight. The voting results can wait until the nighttime news. Watch a little college football. Because while Election Day is a big holiday that shapes the face of governments nationwide, there's a game during college football season that determines who becomes the power of a certain conference, much less a national power.

WEEK 11 - TUESDAY SYNOPSIS
A crisp evening in northern Illinois gave way to a foggy night. The Away team has had a lackluster season up to this point while the Home team is trying to have their star player get even more Heisman consideration. The Away team wants to spoil the happiness the Home team has.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES
(I will experiment a new format with team scores by offering mascot names in the team namesake. I'm also trying this with college basketball.)

* Toledo ***Rockets*** at Northern Illinois ***Huskies***
You were probably done voting or coming home from voting. Or some of you likely saw your imaginary friend vote for you while you went home and watched "Sex in the City" or "Friends" or something. Why watch that when you can watch college football? At least give yourself some time to switch between the game and voting results. Because it's time for Toledo and Northern Illinois to make some magic happen. Northern Illinois has Garrett Wolfe showing why he's a true dark horse for the Heisman Trophy. But will Toledo spoil Northern Illinois' big gamebreaker? How appropriate... we got a team with a canine nickname and one guy named G. Wolfe! He may be a Wolfe, but the Huskies are both hungry bunches of dogs. They may have puppies, but Toledo has some heavy-hitting hardware. Those would be Rockets. Not exactly the ones with Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady, but the Toledo Rockets. They are all systems go in trying to take down Northern Illinois. And in the end, that's what they did. (17-13; Toledo)

--- LOOKS LIKE A BAD DAY TO BE A REPUBLICAN ---
Here's a link courtesy of Yahoo! News:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061108/pl_nm/usa_elections_dc

Issues such as being involved in war in Iraq to George W. Bush's leadership was very much impacted for the final two years of Bush's term. Imagine what the next two years will be like according to this report! Read more on election results from this page.

--- ANY OF YOU LIKE INTERNET EXPLORER 7? ---
Have some of you seen or heard of Internet Explorer 7? I'm using it right now on my computer. This interface is MUCH different compared to its previous version. It seems much more possible to have different sites open at one time. This is a great thing so I don't have to worry about having those Start Menu tabs grouping together. You know when you have two or more than one tab on the taskbar? And you know how all those tabs will be grouped together if there are too many tabs in the taskbar? Well, this pretty much prevents that. The only time more windows will be used is if you have pop-ups or even a bunch of other programs running with the active taskbar. I had to get used to where the Refresh and Stop buttons were in addition to all of this. But for the most part, I like this package. Oh, and you can also zoom in websites. It works for me in case I don't feel like sitting up straight on my bed in trying to view my Internet Explorer stuff from a distance. I think it's pretty cool. What do you think (if you have IE7 installed)?

--- Miami DL Bryan Pata Shot and Killed ---
It's been told that B. Pata was killed a couple of hours removed from team practice. The website I've posted below tells me that the 22-year old Miami native was killed in the parking lot outside his apartment. The shooting death was ruled a homicide. He was in 41 games and starting in 23 of them. He was projected to be a great NFL Draft pick since this was his Senior year. It is unknown at this point if they will want to go on with their game at #23 Maryland this Saturday. Miami has not had a great year so far. They had to deal with everything from Larry Coker potentially being fired, the Miami/Florida International brawl, losing more than 3 games for the first time in a while, and now this. I'm sure this is a season Miami would love to forget.

Whether you like the Miami Hurricanes or not, you have to admit that this is yet another blow for the Miami program. As a devoted fan of college sports (mostly football and basketball), my condolences and prayers go out to the Pata family as well as to family and friends who known and loved him.

--- HOSPITAL KEEPS JOE PATERNO FOR AT LEAST WEDNESDAY ---
After the injury to his left leg, Joe Paterno has been kept in the hospital for precautionary reasons. He may coach on the sidelines when Penn State hosts Temple. It's still sad to see this happen to one of college football's greatest coaches.

Here are some other games on tap for this weekend:

* Louisville shown that they are for real when they beat West Virginia. But can the #15 Rutgers Scarlet Knights royally slam Louisville's Top 5 ranking? Or will Louisville stand tall?

* The 23rd-ranked Boston College Eagles will get the scare of a lifetime when they host Duke! Can the Blue Devils beat Boston College even if Coach K was walking the sidelines for the Blue Devils?

* Will North Carolina get their first win in ACC conference play when they meet #19 Georgia Tech?

* Kentucky picked up a BIG win over Georgia (UGA goes to Auburn this weekend). Can they win two in a row when Vanderbilt comes to Lexington?

* Houston's two 1-A teams hit the road. Houston will go to Dallas to battle against a 5-4 Southern Methodist (SMU) team while Rice goes to Tulsa. Will both Houston teams come away with wins? Will one of them win? Or will both lose (a Houston loss will be an upset)?

That's among a mess of other games. Look for your 1-A match here: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/scoreboard . Get your 1-AA schedule here: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/scoreboard?&w=11&c=iaa_all .

Funeral services for Bryan Pata will be held next Wednesday. As far as I know, the Miami at Maryland game is still on. Miami will be wearing decals of Pata's number. The Athletics Board at Miami wants people who have information on Pata's killer(s) to immediately call authorities in Miami.

JOHN'S EXTRAS

- Hampton Profile

GTPlanet, I'd like to profile perhaps the finest HBCU (Historically-Black Colleges and Universities) in America- Hampton University.

Official Name: Hampton Universiy
Motto: "The Standard of Excellence, An Education for Life"
Established: 1868
Location: Hampton, VA
Type: a suburban private coeducational school
School Colors: Blue and White
Website: http://www.hamptonu.edu/ ; Athletics: http://www.hamptonu.edu/athletics/

Collegiate Conference: Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
Nickname/Mascot: Pirates
Football Field: Armstrong Stadium
Seating Capacity: 17,000

DID YOU KNOW...

(1.) ...that the first classes at [what would eventually become] Hampton were taught under the shade of a tree called Emancipation Oak? The first teacher was Mary S. Peake. And if the name of this tree has a familiar name to it, it's because this was the tree in which President Abraham Lincoln read the Emancipation Proclamation aloud to Southerners. Read more on Emancipation Oak here: < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emancipation_Oak >.

(2.) ...that Hampton was part of the MEAC Conference since 1995?

(3.) ...that while Hampton is a historically-black university, it also offers classes for people of Virginia's two Indian Reservations?

(4.) ...that one of the first students of Hampton was Booker T. Washington?

FAMOUS ALUMNI (among others)

* Booker T. Washington - powerful black figure in shaping the face of education in his time. Authored "Up from Slavery."
* Wanda Sykes - comediane.
* Spencer Christian - "Good Morning America" weatherman.
* Charles Phillips - President of Oracle Corporation.
* Rick Mahorn - Detroit Pistons.
* Devin Greene - Los Angeles Lakers.
* Nicole Bailey-Williams - author.
* Jerome Mathis - Houston Texans KR (also a Pro Bowl selection in Houston's 2-14 season last year).
* Kimberly Oliver - 2006 National Teacher of the Year.

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hampton_University

And that is your profile of perhaps the finest black college in the NCAA.

I'll come back with more extras if I come up with any. There will be games on Thursday, so be sure to stop by to see who won what games.

We are heading into Veteran's Day this Saturday. I hope you're ready for football because we will see if Louisville will take down Rutgers. Rutgers has been given second life in recent times since Rutgers is evolving. It used to be that they would be endlessly hammered. They made their first Bowl Game in 20-something years last year. Now they're headed to another bowl. But their win streak is on the line as Louisville looks determined to beat two consecutive unbeaten teams in two successive weeks.

WEEK 11 - THURSDAY SYNOPSIS
The key matchup tonight was in the Big East. After Louisville handed West Virginia its first loss, they look to defeat a second-successive unbeaten team in New Jersey. The rejuvenated New Jersey school is just about the only 1-A school in the state of New Jersey. Other games included a huge mismatch in the Mountain West, and a match between two struggling MAC schools. Division 1-AA saw another football match in New Jersey. Division 2 featured the only game in southeastern America played on Thursday.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES

* GAME OF THE WEEK *
"The State University of Collge Football" #3 Louyisville -Cardinals- at #15 Rutgets -Scarlet Knights-
Let's take this like Enthusia. A big match is on the way. Imagine this being like racing on Löwenseering. You have the dramatic music in the background and racing a challenging course. Louisville would be that Team Goh Audi R8 while Rutgers is a Toyota GT-One in matching up against "The 'Ville." Can Rutgers win this heated race against Louisville? It's a battle of two unbeatens in the Big East. Wait a minute... wasn't there a similar match like this last week? That's right. Louisville won by ten over West Virginia. WVU was a tough unit. But let's see if Rutgers can provide some challenge for Louisville. If Louisville wins this game (whether you like them or not), you have to hand Louisville some credit for beating two ranked unbeatens in successive weeks. The Cardinals are going to spread their wings and fly. But be on the lookout because The State University of New Jersey is thinking upset. Rutgers is the birthplace of college football. I wonder what would happen if the first football players for Rutgers in 1869 got to see what Rutgers is like in 2006. They'd see that a whole lot has changed since the first-ever game when Rutgers battled Princeton. Even as times have changed, Rutgers only got better with age. There's nothing aging about today's Rutgers squad. After all, the Scarlet Knights are always ready for a good game of pigskin against whomever. Are they ready for Louisville's high-powered offense? Can Rutgers bring smiles to Louisville haters? At least the game isn't played at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. The game will take place at Rutger's home with a record crowd- 44,111 fans in attendance. That's just north or south of the seating capacity for Louisville's stadium. So let's do the game. Who'll win this one-on-one race for all the Big East marbles? I fell asleep and missed most of the first half when I wanted to make this report. After one half of play, it was 25-14 at the half in favor of the 'Ville. Any Kentucky Wildcat jinxing of Louisvillle isn't coming true as of now. Games can tremendous change after Halftime is done. Maybe a Rutgers upset (I have this as my upset special for this week) is still eminent. Would Louisville stumble down the stretch? Is Rutgers the David trying to defeat Goliath? Piscataway, NJ may be ready to see their fans hit the nightclubs and dance their butts off in celebration. Is it going to happen? At 25-25 with 17 or so seconds left, Rutgers shanked the field goal, but Louisville was Offsides. So with another kick, Rutgers was money. Now with two seconds left, an unbeaten record is on the line. Brian Brohm wanted a Hail Mary, but what he got was a Rutgers sack. And in the end, Rutgers stunned the Louisville Cardinals! I was kind of wondering what was with all the blimp views in the game's coverage. Those blimp views meant a lot later in the game as Rutgers fans stormed the field as Rutgers goes to 9-0. Rutgers fans were on the field as the music in the background went "Cellllllll... ebrate good times, come on!" Yeah, celebrate good times. Louisville may have seen their BCS title game hopes burn straight to Hell. This is a hellacious upset. Time to celebrate, Lexington! Your sworn rivals went down hard! (28-25; #15 RUTGERS) *upset!*

^ By the way, this makes that guy's prediction of Louisville blowing Rutgers out of the water look like a complete dope. And credit Rutgers for this win. Their toughest match now will be December 2nd at West Virginia. Key words: AT West Virginia. They will TRULY earn my respect if they go into Morgantown and completely b:censored:slap WVU.

* Wyoming -Cowboys- at #25 BYU -Cougars- (55-7; BRIGHAM YOUNG) *ownage nominee*
* Buffalo -Bulls- at Akron -Zips- (31-16; AKRON)

DIVISION 1-AA GAMES
* La Salle -Explorers- at St. Peter's -Peacocks- (37-28; La Salle)

DIVISION 2 GAMES
* #14 Valdosta State at West Georgia (38-13; #14 Valdosta State)

DIVISION 3 GAMES
Here's something to note: this will be the final week of Division 3 football as it will likely be time to look into playoff seeding in the Division 3 ranks.

* Hamline took on Augsburg. However, d3football.com doesn't have a report on who won this game. I apologize for this.

JOHN'S EXTRAS

--- THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS WISHES FROM ME ---
I made a blog here: < http://blog.myspace.com/22957000 >. I copied and pasted the blog to a special link on my Freewebs.com website. So you can view: < http://www.freewebs.com/johnm2001/holiday.htm > to see this blog. I basically call to action about helping needy children and other needy people this holiday season. I've always have been concerned with this. Usually concerned that people (mostly children) celebrate the holiday in hospitals and not with their families. It's always provided a bitter thought in my mind. I think if you can do anything to help the causes of helping the needy in Thanksgiving and Christmas, by all means, contribute whatever you can to the charities.

--- RUTGERS... A NEW YORK CITY AREA SCHOOL? ---
The general location of Piscataway, NJ is about 10 or 20 miles away from the greater metropolitan area of New York City. But I don't think it's COMPLETELY in the New York City area. I think of Trenton or even South Orange in terms of New Jersey being very close to greater New York City. I'd still love to visit New York City one day. Had interest since I was a child. What is my inspiration and motor for going there? This may sound crazy, but... I played an NES game called "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles 3: The Manhattan Project." I grown some interest in NYC since that's where the [old] Ninja Turtles tried saving from the clutches of Shredder. Perhaps my finest moment playing the game was that I had only one shred of life let, no continues left, my final life... and I beat both Krang and Shredder to beat the game. Your goal in this game was that Shredder took Manhattan Island and basically ripped Manhattan from off the ground and high into the air. Your job was to stop Shredder and return the floating Manhattan Island back down to Earth. It was a great game.

--- A LOOK AT THE PLANNED NEW STADIUM IN GREATER NEW YORK CITY ---
There was a plan which would give the New York Giants and New York Jets a new stadium to play in. One specific plan was to see current Giants Stadium still exist for the NY Giants, but this proposed new stadium will allow the New York Jets to play their games on the west side of Manhattan. This project costs $800 million dollars and is expected to be completed by 2009. I was wondering what it would be like for a city that has Madison Square Garden and Yankee Stadium to have yet another professional sporting arena. Last I've heard, this stadium would be completed in 2009. Certain schools in New York City have football already. Examples include Wagner College on Staten Island, Columbia University (just northeast of Manhattan), Stony Brook University on Staten Island, and Fordham University. Only thing I know is that Fordham is home of Division 1 basketball's oldest arena- Glass Gym, opened in 1925. The first-ever televised game from Glass Gym was just last season when they played North Carolina-Charlotte.

For more information on this proposed new stadium, visit this site: http://www.stadiumsofnfl.com/future/NYStadium.htm

--- SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS MOVING? ---
It is said that the classic San Francisco 49ers are planning on moving to Santa Clara, CA. Some of you know this city for the Broncos of Santa Clara University. SCU had a proud football team in its past. Santa Clara hasn't seen much of football since 1993. The 49ers have been lethargic in recent years. I love the city of San Francisco, but it would be sad to not see an NFL team rock the house in greater San Francisco. This plan to go to Santa Clara will still call themselves as the San Francisco 49ers. This deal will be complete in 2012. And unless the University of San Francisco plans on reinstating their football team by the time the S.F. 49ers leave for Santa Clara, the old football stadium may either get scrapped or just sit there and rot. No schools in the greater San Francisco metropolitan area have football. So any football that takes place will likely not happen as long as Division 1's University of San Francisco or Division 2's San Francisco State don't have football.

TOMORROW...
Central Michigan meets Western Michigan in a rivalry game for MAC pride in Michigan! Will the Chippewas go into WMU and tame the Broncos? Find out in tomorrow's report as college football continues.

This is a hellacious upset. Time to celebrate, Lexington! Your sworn rivals went down hard! (28-25; #15 RUTGERS) *upset!*[/I]
I only have one thing to say:

hdance.gif

Ok, I have two things to say:

Give the MVP award to the crowd. I was listening to the radio during the third quarter and they were so loud that you could barely hear the announcers.

If it doesn't go to the fans (slightly over-zealous with 2 seconds to go) then it should go to the Louisville player that jumped offsides and saved the hooked field goal. I have a feeling he will be running a lot of laps this week in practice.

A lot of college basketball action is taking place with a number of exhibition tournaments. Football types are still keying on the big matchups before the Bowl Season kicks off next month including playoff races in non-Division 1-A football. The following Friday scores will be RAPID FIRE results, meaning that I'll just show you who won and by how much. Reason being is because a Severe Thunderstorm threat hit Houston. I usually unplug a lot of stuff around the house in the event of stormy or potentially stormy weather. I didn't get a chance to see a lot of action on TV. So let's get right to the Friday scores before the floor is your's for Saturday.

WEEK 11 - FRIDAY SYNOPSIS
Even though 1-AA action was inactive for Friday, the other three divisions saw action from a few different points including the Southeast and Midwest. Division 2 saw two games won by the away team in big margins.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES -RAPID FIRE-
* UTEP at UAB (36-17; Texas-El Paso)
* Western Michigan at Central Michigan (RIVALRY GAME) (31-7; CENTRAL MICHIGAN)

DIVISION 1-AA GAMES
-none reported-

DIVISION 2 GAMES
* Concordia-St. Paul at Minnesota-Crookston (49-0; Concordia-St. Paul)
* #25 Bemidji State at Upper Iowa (44-20; #25 Bemidji State)

DIVISION 3 GAMES
* William Patterson at #13 Rowan (38-7; #13 ROWAN)

JOHN'S EXTRAS

--- WESTERN KENTUCKY GOING TO 1-A IN 2009 ---
Look out, Kentucky! Look out, Louisville! There's a third Kentucky-based school ready to make some noise. As I learned from this article at kentucky.com < http://www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky/sports/colleges/15917501.htm >, Western Kentucky will join the 1-A ranks by competiting in the Sun Belt Conference. The 2002 1-AA National Champions are looking to become part of a conference they are already in with most of their other sports. Western Kentucky is quite dangerous in Sun Belt basketball, though their toughest basketball opposition could be non-football schools like Denver and South Alabama. The Hilltoppers would make for three Kentucky-based schools in 1-A. However, I think their rivalry with the Eastern Kentucky Colonels may be broken. There aren't as many rivalries in which 1-A teams share a rivalry against a 1-AA team. Some of you may remember that I did an Extra on what teams could play on a 1-AA level. Well, I think I noted WKU. So be on the lookout for Western Kentucky in 1-A for the 2009 season.

--- NCAA TITLE IX AND ITS IMPACT ON COLLEGE FOOTBALL ---
Read < http://chronicle.com/indepth/titleix/ >. it's full of data on the impact Title IX has on collegiate athletics. What it does is to have some universities and colleges cut some men's programs just to balance out the athletics for men and women alike. To read what the NCAA's Title IX is all about, read here: < http://www1.ncaa.org/membership/ed_outreach/gender_equity/general_info/facts.html >.

--- MARYLAND-EASTERN SHORE TO REINSTATE FOOTBALL? ---
My "Former Glory" entry on Maryland-Eastern Shore is that this boasted one of the proudest black colleges in all of college football. The Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks are one of only two teams in the MEAC conference that doesn't have a current football team. UMES has been a powerful black college on the gridiron. This link < http://www.onnidan.com/06-07/news/july/hff0709.htm > shows you what UMES plans to do to reinstate football at UMES. One of the most popular alums of Maryland-Eastern Shore is Oakland Raiders coach (and maybe soon-to-be ex-coach) Art Shell. UMES' campaign to restore football is known as "Hawks For Football," and you can read more about their program and campaign here: < http://www.umes.edu/football/ >. The University of Maryland-Eastern Shore can be found in the city of Princess Anne, MD. It would be wonderful to see how this program could come back and show us new-generation folk as to why this program was so dominant. Always nice to see a proud program return to its former glory, or at least return to the sport the team was most dominant in.

I'm probably not going to see any football action on TV for the morning or afternoon for Saturday. That is because I'll be attending a Pow Wow event on the other side of Houston. What I COULD be doing is carrying my portable radio so I can listen to some games and some college football coverage. This will likely be the final week of Division 3 football, so I probably won't cover them again until I learn of playoff seedings in Division 3. Be sure to have a great weekend!

It is November 11, 2006. The sun is shining beautifully here in Houston as the night was beautifully clear. This is that time of year here in which weather can be quite lovely even while it gets as hot as Hell (not Hell, Michigan). This is a point where we'll have to start thinking of National Championships as well as guaranteed Bowl Game players. Some teams can be Bowl Eligible with a win here today. Other teams have already punched in their tickets to the postseason including Houston, California, Notre Dame, Louisville, Rutgers, all among many others. Some teams are trying to make the show like Iowa and Kentucky. This Saturday report will feature a game that's not exactly GAME OF THE WEEK, but certainly a game to watch. It seems like I've started a lot of my Saturday reports in the SEC. Perhaps rightfully so. The SEC has that "my time is now" attitude to getting into the postseason. People who'd normally say that are likely lesser schools thinking they have a chance to stand among giants. Align with the gods. Basketball types are likely enjoying NBA and collegiate basketball (don't worry. I'll update my November 2006 thread for college hoops!). Racing types are getting ready for perhaps the end of the 2006 Champ Car World Series as well as NASCAR's penultimate "Chase for the Cup" race at Phoenix (I'm sad that Jeff Gorddon isn't going to be able to climb back. Well, I do have respect for Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards). But us football types are ready for great football across all four divisions of NCAA football. So if you're ready like I am, let's do football one more time!

I came home from the Texas Championship Pow Wow event here in Houston to see some of these scores. I've heard some games on the radio. So I was surprised with some scores.

NOTE: I've overslept in trying to give you scores. I will present you with as many scores as possible, but most other scores, I'll allow you to view some of the sources I use so you can see if your favorite team won or lost. I apologize for this. Also, some reports may be incomplete. You have been warned.

WEEK 11 - SATURDAY SYNOPSIS
All eyes were to next week as #1 Ohio State and #2 Michigan had to win their games before their great rivalry match transpires. The two teams still had to play their games before their fateful match. Two stunning upsets occured in the Top 10 in 1-A. One upset was at home while another was a road upset. Two teams clinched conference championships in two different divisions in two different conferences. This was Judgment Day as a bunch of one-loss teams are on the bubble in seeing their National Championship burn up in smoke in 1-A. A losing 1-AA team got better with another win.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES

*+* GAME OF THE DAY *+*
"Where's Spurrier?" South Carolina at Florida
The excitement came to an end as Florida blocked a South Carolina potentially-game-winning Field Goal in the closing moments. Why did you leave Florida, Steve Spurrier? Your former students beat the former pupil. Florida gets a BIG win at The Swamp. The Gators stood tall against Steve Spurrier's new team, the South Carolina Gamecocks. (17-16; #6 FLORIDA)

Let's get to some basketball powers in this report. Call it the "Basketball Power Pack." And I mean no disrespect to teams when I mention them as basketball schools. Also mean no disrespect to their football programs.

--- Basketball Power Pack ---

"Postseason, Here We Come!" Vanderbilt at Kentucky
The University of Kentucky has been the team I've kept a close eye on this season. Sure, they are unknown to SEC football fans, but they did produce a guy named... Tim Couch. I'm sure his soon-to-be Kentucky alum will be ready to smack some teams in this weekend's match against Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt University- once voted as one of America's most beautiful universities. Their football team is pretty ugly. This was a team that could have made a Bowl Game a few years ago had it not been for a controversial call when they played Florida. Now the Commodores would love nothing more but to smash Kentucky. Now let's meet FoolKiller's boys. Fans in Lexington shouldn't have partied too much when (then) #3 Louisville went down in New Jersey. However, there is still a long season ahead. Kentucky still needs to win at least one game to make a Bowl Game. No one predicted that Georgia would fall to Kentucky (not even me!). Is Kentucky that good? Are they tired of all the complaints against Kentucky's football team led by Rich Brooks? There's only one way to find out- win a game between now and the end of your season. The Wildcats still have hope of making the postseason. Vanderbilt and Kentucky share one similarity- they have both beaten Georgia this season. It was the first time since 1973(?). So who's the better Georgia-killer? Let's find out! Sixty minutes saw Commonwealth Stadium accomplish its greatest task- make a Bowl Game. I wanted to give FoolKiller some good news... and this is about as good of news as I can give his Wildcats. The blue and white toppled the black and gold at home. (38-26; KENTUCKY)

* Purdue at Illinois
It's time for dougiemeats's boys to get their shine on. It's Illinois hosting lowly Purdue. Some would argue that Illinois is just as lowly as Purdue. The Boilermakers shown to be the better team in taking down Illinois' Fighting Illini. (42-31; Purdue)

* Syracuse at South Florida (27-10; SOUTH FLORIDA)

"Tuscon Trouble" #8 California at Arizona
When I came home from the Pow Wow event, I was shocked and stunned to find out who won this event. It was surely stunning to see this happen. California went into Arizona looking for a win. But all the Golden Bears got was an upset that will take them out of contention for a National Championship. The winnner of this game is the pathetic Arizona Wildcats. (24-20; ARIZONA) *upset!*

---RAPID FIRE---
* #19 Georgia Tech at North Carolina (7-0; #19 Georgia Tech) <-will go to ACC Championship game with win
* Pittsbutgh at Connecticut(46-45, 2OT; CONNECTICUT) *big win nominee*
* #2 Michigan at Illinois (34-3; #2 Michigan)

-end "Basketball Power Pack"

--- Conference USA West Forcus ---
Houston currently leads the C-USA West.

* Houston at SMU
This is a Texas-tough tussle between two teams with winning records. Houston has had its best season in ages while Southern Methodist can go for a Bowl Game with a win in Dallas. (37-27; Houston)

* Rice at Tulsa
Houston's other 1-A team is Rice University. And just like Houston, Rice is on the road showing why Houston football teams do it better. Houston beat Tulsa last week or so. If Rice beats Tulsa, Houston's going to the Conference USA conference championship game. And as much as Houston and Rice don't like each other, Houston has to root for the enemy in hopes (-; )

The aftermath of Houston's win and Tulsa's loss makes Houston the Conference USA West Champions. They'll meet the C-USA East champion for the conference title.
-end "Conference USA West Focus"

* #1 Ohio State at Northwestern (54-10; #1 Ohio State)

* Georgia at #5 Auburn (RIVALRY: The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry)
This isn't the Iron Bowl, but it's just about neck and neck to the Iron Bowl rivalry. Auburn and Georgia flat out hate each other. But in the end, the Georgia Bulldogs really thumped their counterparts, the Auburn Tigers (37-15; Georgia) *upset!*

* Alabama at #12 LSU
Les Miles becomes the first SEC coach to take a team to the conference title in their first year. And it's a job well done considering that the LSU Tigers are usuallly a great team year after year. The Crimson Tide of Alabama is dropping game after game. (28-14; #12 LOUISIANA STATE)

-- RAPID FIRE --
* Cincinatti at #? West Virginia (-; #? WEST VIRGINIA)
* #4 Texas at Kansas State (45-42; KANSAS STATE) *upset!*
* Minnesota at Michigan State (31-18; Minnesota)
* #16 Wisconsin at Iowa (24-21; #16 Wisconsin)
* Southern Mississippi at Tulane (31-3; Southern Mississippi)
* Baylor at Oklahoma State (66-24; OKLAHOMA STATE)
* Stanford at Washington (20-3; Stanford)
* Kent State at #20 Virginia Tech (23-0; #20 VIRGINIA TECH)
* Miami at #23 Maryland (14-13; #23 MARYLAND) <- Miami played despite the death of Bryan Pata earlier in week

DIVISION 1-AA GAMES
"Carbondale Copy" Northern Iowa at Southern Illinois
Get ready to meet two of the toughest opponents in football and basketball. Two incredible schools are going to hit it off in Illinois. This is the battle between the University of Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois University.
When Northern Iowa punched in a score past six minutes into the game, an Extra Point was blocked as Southern Illinois took it back for two points. SIU basically ran the ball from Buffalo, NY all the way to Spokane, WA for a two-point conversion the other way. So it was 9-6 then. (-; )

* Youngstown State at Western Kentucky
Over the river and through the woods to Bowling Green, KY we go! One needs not venture very far to see a big matchup in 1-AA. Perhaps not as intense as UNI and SIU from above, but surely a good match between two teams that proudly have red in their outfits. Youngstown State University takes on Western Kentucky University in this Pioneer(?) match. Youngstown State is the last Division 1 school in football and basketball if you placed all the teams in alphabetical order. They have a laughable choice for a nickname. Just don't let their nickname mislead you if you're talking about YSU hockey. They are known as the Penguins. Apparently, this species of penguins can throw footballs from one end zone to the other. They'll need to do more than that to beat Western Kentucky. My extra from last night was on an article that's at least a week old on Western Kentucky joining the Sun Belt Conference in football starting in 2009. WKU is already in the Sun Belt for most of its other sports. I always said that the Sun Belt is the lowest conference in Division 1-A since it's mostly a conference for 1-AA teams trying to play among the Division 1-A teams. The Bowling Green, KY outfit knows what to expect three years from now. But as far as this game goes, you can certainly bet the Hilltoppers will be ready to play on ANY level. They should keep up the great work and not let Youngstown State win. The home side didn't see their team win. In fact, Western Kentucky was denied the End Zone. It had to be decided by more than sixty seconds. So Youngstown State left Bowling Green with a nice victory in the old back pocket. (19-3; Youngstown State)

-- OTHER 1-AA SCORES --
* Georgia Southern at Furman (13-10; FURMAN)
* Coastal Carolina at Gardner-Webb (52-24; Coastal Carolina)
* Edward Waters at Savannah State (28-7; SAVANNAH STATE)
* Butler at Davidson (50-10; DAVIDSON)
* Texas Southern at Texas State (41-21; TEXAS STATE)
* Wagner at Saint Francis (35-14; ST. FRANCIS)
* Hampton at Florida A&M (59-7; Hampton) *ownage nominee*
* Monmouth at Albany (19-0; Monmouth)
* Georgetown at Lafayette (45-14; LAFAYETTE)

*** End of 1-AA scores. To see more, visit: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/scoreboard?w=11&c=iaa_all&refresh=0

DIVISION 2 GAMES

-RAPID FIRE-
* #22 Midwestern State at #13 Abeline Christian (46-30; #22 Midwestern State) *upset!*
* IUP (Indiana U. of PA) at #21 CUP (California U. of PA) (21-17; Indiana University of Pennsylvania) *upset!*
* Arkansas-Monticello at #16 Delta State (53-0; #16 DELTA STATE)
* Southern Oregon (Div. 3) at Dixie State (18-15; Southern Oregon) *big win nominee*
* #20 Northwood at Indianapolis (23-0; #20 Northwood)
* #1 Grand Valley State at Northern Michigan (47-17; #1 Grand Valley State)
* Central Washington at #15 Nebraska-Omaha (48-14; #15 NEBRASKA-OMAHA)
* Central Oklahoma at Northeastern State (26-23, 2OT; NORTHEASTERN STATE)

DIVISION 3 GAMES
This should be the final week of Division 3 for 2006. Playoff seedings will be determined by this point. We begin with the Top Ten teams. All ten of the top ten will be playing unranked teams. Let's see if the insanity in 1-A carried into the Division 3 schools. Since it's getting late here, I'll simply show you the Top 10 in action.

* #1 Mount Union at Marietta (45-17; #1 Grand Valley State)
* #2 Wisconsin-Whitewater at Wisconsin-River Falls (48-16; #2 Wisconsin-Whitewater)
* Bethel at #3 St. John's of Minnesota (28-13; Bethel) *upset!*
* Morrisville State at #4 Wesley (53-14; #4 WESLEY)
* #5 Capital at Baldwin-Wallace (19-7; #5 Capital)

* The rest of the top 10 in Division 3 featured these winners (home team winners in CAPS): #6 MARY-HARDIN BAYLOR (55-7 win of Howard Payne), #7 HARDIN-SIMMONS (42-13 win over McMurry), #8 Wisconsin-La Crosse (31-20 win over Wisconsin-Oshkosh), #9 WHITWORTH (44-27 win over Puget Sound, and #10 Central (23-0 shutout over Whittier.

JOHN'S WINNERS AND LOSERS
This week's decisions are tough for me to make legit favorites (except the upset). So I may do some generalizations. Bear with me in these decisions. Of course, at any time, you are free to make your own choices for the four categories expressed this week. So let's look at this list of big winners.

BIGGEST WIN(S) OF THE WEEK
(tie) All the Winners of the Top Ten Upsets, Except One... (More Later)
- Go long! I'm passing my game balls on to Kansas State (beating #4 Texas) Arizona (beating #8 California), and Georgia (beating #5 Auburn). If you notice that I've missed a game to this list, that's because I have a special entry for that one specific upset I forgot to mention. I almost wanted to have Arizona beating California as a Disappointing Loss. But instead, I found something much worse in that department.
(tie) Kentucky Becomes Bowl Eligible for First Time Since 1998[/I] - Kentucky's win over Vanderbilt has given Kentucky the chance to play in the postseason. I think they had a Bowl Bid with the Liberty Bowl or something. And it looks like Kentucky's going to paint the town blue with Bowl Game frenzy.

SPECIAL NOTE: I will create a Bowl Game thread soon to highlight on Bowl Game matchups. Please stay tuned.

MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS(ES) OF THE WEEK
Florida State Gets Blanked at Home for the First Time Since 1973 While Losing to Wake Forest for the First Time Since 1959
- Florida State may have really disappointed now. They lost to Wake Forest 30-0 in Tallahassee. It's no wonder why people say that the ACC is having a disappointing year. Miami's fallen off the map, and now Florida State has been falling off the map. Basically, Wake Forest treated Florida State like they were Duke or Temple. This is one of those shameful losses

UPSET(S) OF THE WEEK (if any)
#15 Rutgers Brings #3 Louisvile Back Down to Earth
- Emotional high, or emotionally high? I personally wanted Louisville to win so that I could see if they would REALLY be for real if they play for a National Championship. Rutgers was just that much better. A late field goal can change everything. Remember when North Carolina kicked that game-winning field goal to upset Miami a few years ago? Rutger's long-range bomb went through the uprights. These are my concerns:

(1) What if this game was played at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium?
(2) What if Michael Bush and Brian Brohm were all healthy heading into this match?

This is still a big win regardless. So I'm giving Rutgers - The State University of New Jersey my Upset honors. It takes a lot of guts to beat a team like Louisville. Louisville went to the Big East in football for one reason- play in a BCS Bowl, and perhaps for a National Championship. They're in most other Big East sports to be part of a big conference and not be overlooked or looked on as a mid-major. Rutgers denies Louisville an unbeaten season. This is the UPSET OF THE WEEK even though there was that Division 3 upset of a #3 team.

OWNAGE(S) OF THE WEEK
--- NOTE: Find out Sunday. ---

JOHN'S EXTRAS
(none to share)

People, I'm very sorry for not giving you as many scores as you would like.

Week 11 produced some great games, starting with a fantastic Louisville vs. Rutgers game! It was a long (school) day for me, so I fell asleep during the 2nd quarter and halftime, but I didn't miss the end. Great game, and well done to Rutgers.

I couldn't make it to my high school's state quarterfinal game on Saturday, but unfortunately, they lost. Also, it was another disappointing game for the Illini, especially on Senior Day/Dad's Weekend. So my two teams lost on Saturday, but luckily, the other games somewhat made up for it.

What a tough weekend for the one-loss teams. I didn't expect Texas to go down, nor did I expect Georgia to do down to Auburn and dominate. I was going for South Carolina, but Florida's Tebow is exciting to watch isn't he?

After having tough games last weekend, the two Michigan and Ohio State took care of business and made sure nothing ruined their date next weekend. Things are looking good. It's the beginning of break from school, and Michigan and Ohio State are playing on my birthday! I can't wait for this one.

wanted to give FoolKiller some good news... and this is about as good of news as I can give his Wildcats. The blue and white toppled the black and gold at home. (38-26; KENTUCKY)
Quick side story: I almost had tickets to thsi game. My father-in-law had tickets and said that he wasn't planning to go and if he decided not to he woudl give them to me. Instead he went with my brother-in-law. :( The irony here: I will paint my face, where silly hats, scream at the top of my lungs, and do whatever I need to support my team. My in-laws are the biggest negative Kentucky fans on the planet. They are the type that hate Tubby smith and Rich Brooks so much they want Kentucly to lose so they will get the boot. They think Kentucky winning (get this) is the worst thing Kentucky can do. Now, I will admit I doubted Brooks and I think Tubby needs some recruiting help, but if they get the job done and they win then I will support them. I don't care who is heading my team if they are winning. Afterall it is about Ws.

That said, Kentucky should get one more win against Louisiana Monroe before facing Tennessee down in Rockytop.

GO CATS!!!

MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS(ES) OF THE WEEK

#15 Rutgers Brings #3 Louisvile Back Down to Earth
And my life becomes bearable at work.

(1) What if this game was played at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium?
There definitely would have been a different outcome. As I said before I think that the crowd played a huge role in this game.
(2) What if Michael Bush and Brian Brohm were all healthy heading into this match?
As I tell all the Louisville fans: injuries are part of the game.
