WDS Week 1 + Results

The WDS (Weekly Drag Series, not to be confused with the drifters) is back.

Due to continued bumpage of this thread, I believe there is still some interest in this particular facet of the game.

I was unable to run the series for a long time because I didn't have my own PS2. Now I do.

This resurrection is hopefully more than a one-time go at it. If there is enough interest, I will resume this weekly series (which is why this is posted in the long race series). As long as there is continued interest, I will keep making new races. I know for sure there is enough racers for this week, anyway.

I will run this exactly how I used to.

This week's challenge is with the 1965 Shelby GT350R. You can win the car quite easily by beating the Shelby Cobra Cup.

NOTE:

-All races are held at the Las Vegas drag strip
-Please save your replay AND YOUR SETTINGS
-No gamesharking is allowed to enhance the car
-Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated
-Winner must post settings at conclusion of race, otherwise the win goes to the next fastest person who can supply repeatable settings
-Post your time here in the thread before the time limit passes (do not PM it to me)

RACE CONDITIONS/LIMITATIONS:

-All modifications welcome except for a tire limitation
-This means nitrous and any other mod that you can buy or do to your car is legal
-Tire limitation: Sports soft (S3) or worse. Absolutely no racing tires
-No TCS allowed

This is pure American muscle right here, flexing the chassis of this vintage race car. S3 tires and no TCS ensure you will have to modulate the throttle with skill.

As you can infer from the rules, it is a good idea to write down your settings and save the replay, as well as your time. I will not require you to post replays, so for those of you who don't have a maxdrive, don't worry. Unlike any other OLR event, you can bump and scrape the walls all you want. Kill some pedestrians, I don't care. BUT - if you don't post settings, or if your settings are questioned by another racer and no one can repeat your run within reasonable limits, either you will have to give away your strategy or the win will be taken away from you.

This will be a 10 point event, 1st place is awarded 10 point, 2nd nine, and so on. A leaderboard will be created if this meets success.

This race will conclude at noon (12pm) Friday February 16th, EST. This time limit is designed to give you a few extra hours, for I get home from work around 5 or so. That said, if a racer sends me a PM and asks for an extra day due to unforeseen circumstance, I will almost always grant it as long as it doesn't become a habit.

Speaking of PMs.... I am not a Moderator and this is not an official GTP race. I cannot handle a mass influx of PMs. So, this is why you must post your time within this thread before the time limit passes.

I figure times are prone to be updated, so I'll go ahead and start this show with a 400m time of 12.821

its good to see this back. I just sold my PS2 to a friend but i still have GT4, just making room for a PS3.

Cool, im totally stoked about the Return of this comp, sadly I have lent my copy of GT4 2 a mate. Unsure of when I will get it back, I may have to miss some races. :(

Go to his house and tell him you need it back right now!

I got a time of 12.770.

Nice job

Ha that's cool man, if you can get it back and do this race that would be even sweeter.

when i get my tax return and after they put the 65nm chips on them. so prolly late march. i still have access to PS2s though so i may try.

I see. It's gonna be a long time before I buy a PS3.

I told you guys I'd post a time tonight, but I can't right now... but my best time from last night was 11.5xx. I apologize for not having an exact number.

Nice to see more times.

I currently have an 11.469, don't know how much more I can take off.

Transmission gearing is important here but some of you may not be realizing the single greatest change to achieving a fast time.

12.253 so far but i haven't got it tuned very well... lots of wheelspin in 1st and no power in 2nd...so be back soon with new time

hi
i am only able in week-ends,
when do we do it mail me as soon as possible
thanks:tup:
It's going on right now. All you have to do is run the Vegas drag strip with the car mentioned in the first post, and post your time and your settings here.

OK, haven't played GT4 for 4 months now. quite rusty. I'll add a time to the back end: 12.956 I'll be happy to break 12.500

Anyone mind if a drag-newby joins in for this round, see if it rocks my boat?

Neil

Neil, I'd be more than happy to see you racing with us :)

No go ahead, the more the merrier.

Exactly!

best i can do for now
`11.520

Ooh... I have some competition closing in on me :sly:

In case you want to see how you stack up so far:

I only managed a very quick session, but I still managed 11.998. I can't remember half the stuff I discovered the first time this comp was run.

I'm struggling with settings as I have never done this before.
I could do with some basic guidlines/generic settings that I can work from, especially where the diff is concerned.

The best I have done so far is a paltry 12.502!

Neil

Well my run wasn't done with max horse power or max Nos, which helped with some of the wheelspin.

if anyone wants to keep their times on the down low they can PM their times to me if they want to as i do have the large PM box.

Drag racing is all about traction and gearing, the way I see it. The type of drivetrain (MR, FR, etc) affects the other settings, notably the suspension. Look at your ride height and spring settings. This car is an FR, what suspension settings will give those rear wheels the most traction? What OTHER settings will increase traction?

Well my run wasn't done with max horse power or max Nos, which helped with some of the wheelspin.

I have the supercharger, although I believe there is a much more expensive NA stage 3 available. I might be mistaken. I have the nitrous at 50 but I don't hit it until mid-way through third gear.

if anyone wants to keep their times on the down low they can PM their times to me if they want to as i do have the large PM box.

That could work, as long as you are accountable and dependable to give those times to me on time. I suppose people could always email their times to me at kenny_the_bomb@yahoo.com, I constantly check that email.

i've gotten to 11.629 but still cant find a good medium between traction and power....if i could find it i am sure i could drop into the tens at least a 10.5xx

can i win this car more than once? as i would like to start it again

Ohhhh wow good time.

Are you saying you bought the super close racing transmission? Or the stage 1 weight reduction? I can't see how reducing weight would cause problems.

I don't know if you can win the car more than once, go to Shelby and see if you can. It's a 5 race event, it's worth it to spank the Cobras even if you don't win another GT350R.

By the way I have improved my time just a bit... now at 11.365

Sorry Kenny, just ran a 11.237. ( and it still wasn't perfect, my foot was being twitchy from trying to keep it at a perfect level for so long.)

This is a great feat considering this is the first time I've ever set up a car for drag in my whole time of having the game since it was released. I had 3 other records besides this one in the rankings from 2 years of playing.
