woah, canada is harsh

That's just asinine. You can have your car get taken away from you and destroyed for no reason. I wonder what they think about engine swaps. I could swap a more powerful 1.8 8v or 2.0 16v and say it's strictly for improved emissions. I also feel bad for anyone into grassroots racing in Canada. You'll need a trailer and a vehicle to tow it to get to auto-cross events, ultimately destroying the chances of any non wealthy people getting to race. That really is depressing.

More proof that Canada is off the deep end. Too bad the USA isn't much better or I'd suggest moving here. :indiff:

In the USA you can take YOU and make you disappear without charges. But it's not gonna happen unless they have a reason to (ie: you're street racing)

Yeah, that's been going around the internet. I don't know why they don't just part out the cars and send the money to a charity for the families whose lives have been disrupted by street racing incidents.

Typical knee-jerk reactions of those foolish and deranged in power. It's similar to our country's consensus on car modification (which can be seen in our P-plate restrictions); if the vehicle is not bone-stock, it is deemed a vehicle used solely for street racing antics on public roads and is done away for no factual reason.[1]

Obviously the delusional tyrant has spent too much time trying to compare 2 Fast 2 Furious to real-life (which he has failed miserably at) and does not see the real picture. The real picture being that yes, there are people out there who street race with vehicles being solely performance orientated, but that the majority of car enthusiasts and modifiers alike are simply improving their vehicles not only for themselves but for the public and their safety (bucket-seats, harnesses, improved downforce etc.).

Police prosecutors and politicians alike, rather than spending time and money on teaching kids and young adults about the science of cars and driving or investing in training programs instructing proper safe driving techniques, only serve to propagandise that 'modifying' a vehicle in any way or form is 'as dangerous as explosives'.

If they were to initiate any act of decency perhaps they should realise that it's not speed that kills, it's the inappropriate attitude that will tell you when it's a good time and when it's not.

People that known nothing about the subject they’re dictating should never be put in charge; it’s not modifying cars that is dangerous, it’s the foolish people such as Bryant who deliver and thrive on perverting the truth that are dangerous and I'm starting to grow tired of it.

[1] "If we can establish someone has parts and they're juicing up their car — obviously for the purpose of street racing — then we can seize those vehicles"

Ahem...

Watch the film. I support this movement 100%. I do think there's a better way to dispose of the parts, though.

Selling the parts would make more sense. I do agree with the low tolerance policy though. Would certainly keep me from street racing, not that I do anyhow. Still these things can be taken to extremes, causing more problems than it fixes.

Here in the US... well CA. I could see why you wouldn't need a charge to take away a car because the idiot street racers post where they race w/ pics. The problem is the Police is pretty stupid too because they don't check online sources. Kinda like the blind looking blindly. :dopey:

yes but there is a difference, this went through the legal process, it looks like in Canada they can just take your car on the whim without even going through legal proceedings which is what is outlandish. And whos to say what parts are for street racing and what is for legitimate uses? Not everyone can afford two cars, maybe they track it on the weekends, will it get crushed because it has who knows what under the hood? What is the distinction as to who gets their car crushed and who doesn't? As for that video, stolen parts and illegal engines fine I see a justification there, and atleast they were given due process.

This is kind of old, as they were able to crush our cars before, but now that they have the new "snitch" clause in there (someone reports on you with no proof) its gotten more impossible to imagine with its stupidity. What I want to know is how old muscle cars can cruise on the street with drag slicks in the back tucked under the fenders and pizza cutters up front and all they get is waved at by the cops, but my friends '91 Prelude gets pulled over all the time for improper wheel clearance (too low, even though its a 1/2" drop with no wheel tuck) and threats of "noise violation" tickets due to his aftermarket muffler.

I think this is more of a war on kids and their imports more then anything else, which is a shame too, as most of the cars they've mentioned that were involved in the accidents were all young people driving their parents stock cars pretending to be Paul Walker in 2fast2furious. 👎

Yep, this is going to suck. I live in Ontario so this law will apply to me. Which is just utter bullocks. I mean, I know several people with nicely modified vehciles but DO not streetrace, they go to the track just what a REAL car enthusiast would do, but the police do not care, they can pull anyone over with a nicely modded car and say the car is a potential streetracer and crush it....Totally uncool.....Err makes me wonder, say a cop pulls over a nice muscle car say a Chevelle and it had aftermarket parts on it, like aftermarket carbs and some torque thrusts. A cop can pull that over and crush that too?! I mean, I think they should crush the car only if it is actually caught streetracing.

So if someone owns an EVO IX or an STi would that automatically count against them? Because they already look like race cars without the owner even doing anything to them.

Onterrible sucks, plain and simple.

I'm sure you could find a way to sue the pants off your local police detachment if they did ever impound and destroy your vehicle.

But, I think there is a simple safegaurd that can be taken: Join your local motorsports club. Go race, if you want. But then you can at least say that it is modified for track purposes.

article
On Monday, a truck driver was killed after a crash on Highway 400 that was blamed on speed and dangerous driving.

This fact is completely unrelated to the article. What this told me is that the truck driver shouldn't have been street racing.

This fact is completely unrelated to the article. What this told me is that the truck driver shouldn't have been street racing.

The fact is pretty much the point of the article. Two people were street racing, one cut in front of/nudged the truck, causing it to crash and killed the driver.

There wasn't anything mentioned about people street racing and causing the truck to crash. All it said was that a truck crashed and the driver died. The trucker's crash was blamed on high speed and reckless driving. I don't see anything about a street racer's crash being blamed on high speed and reckless driving.

But this is more a rant about stupid newspaper writing than the point of the article.

From what I've read, this only applys street racers who have had priot offences or have been convicted before.

So, if you haven't been caught, looks like you're ok...for now.
