OK, guys and Gals!

Seeing as this series IS going to happen, I thought that it was about time to start the suggestions thread now!

This way ’WE’ can get a head-start on setting up the first few combo's.

So here are the:

Rules:

  1. Any car can be suggested.
  2. Any track can be suggested (as long as a full grid of 6 cars can be used) including reverse directions on ‘original’ tracks. (I may include some of the rally tracks that only allow 2 cars on track, but I/we will have to look into the viability of those options)
  3. A Hp limit, weight limit, or a power/weight ratio AND tyre compounds used should be suggested also, as we all have preferences where that is concerned. ( And why should I come up with all the parameters myself?)
  4. If you suggest a car that is un-usual or less well known, you must also mention where it can be either bought or won. (for the benefit of those that don’t have an Uber save)
  5. Arcade mode is not the only place we will be racing, so if you think of a GT-mode race/comp/combo that is viable within the series, then do not forget to suggest it!

No combination will be excluded from the selection process unless it is impossible to implement within the constraints of the series.

The suggestions are already pouring into the interest thread, and I will port them across to this thread in the morrow.
However Hp etc figures need to be included (and I don’t want them to be default figures either!)

Bring the whirlwind!

Neil

Well, why not use +20 Hp and -20 weight car settings for every race and adjust only the tire compound and tire wear according to each track? It's easy to administer and keeps people honest as far as power/weight settings go.

I feel tire choice can really make or break a race - Seattle is such a wide course that a strong car with hard tires would make the race much more interesting/challenging than if you simply ran a strong car on soft tires. New York's streets, on the other hand, are very narrow - so if I'm driving the Ford GT40 Race Car '69, for example, in NYC I would opt for RSS tires.

If the initial choice of car proves to be too strong (in testing) for a particular track, instead of messing with the Hp/Kg settings, I'd simply choose a less powerful car and keep the p/w at +20/-20.

LOL what gt version are you using mate? in gt4 in arcade mode you can set back the weight to -10 but no further :)

some questions on the form of the WES races ...
1. will all races be run against them artificial idiots?
2. will the clean-racing rules be as strict as in WRS, or will they be more foregiving (e.g. allow unintentional touches, slight offs etc.)?

i would fear competing in a race where after 30 mins of racing i get bumped by an ai car and then start all over again ... :ouch:

great initiative guys! 👍

LOL. Yeah, I have a GT4-S for "special needs" persons who cannot string together consistently faster lap times. We get the "S" version which helps us lower our weight to -20 so we don't feel so bad :D 👍

1 - Probably
2 - No, they will be almost the same as in the GTPLMS and the Historic series.

So don't worry about minor knocks and bumps, just don't touch the walls.

HP: +20 (421Hp)
Wgt: -10 (1,341 Kg)
Tires: Sports Soft (SS)

AI= +10 difficulty & Medium Tires

This was a lot of fun to drive. The AI battles were great for the first 2-3 laps. I ran for a total of 10 laps just to see how long the Sports Soft would last before pitting (5 laps).

Please give this one a try and let me know what you all think. 👍

@Del - I tried the Shelby Cobra at this track. I had some difficulty keeping this classic on a good line, but will take her out againt tomorrow:cheers:

Btw, after I ran the Stingray, I tried out the Pagani Zonda LM Race Car '01 on RM's (+20Hp & -10 Wgt). OMG  A bit too fast for this track though.

The problem with setting the power and weight figure to the max/min figures is that then the performance penalty system will not work!
So, we would then be tied into using only the divisions.

If we decide to use both divisions and weight pen systems in tandem, the settings (especially the weight) must allow for adjustments in BOTH directions to allow for those that are fast and winning and the slower guys to get adjustments.

And I agree that the tyre choices used can make or break the combo. We will definately not be using racing tyres all the time. That I can promise you.

Yes, I now see your point about the penalty system. Hmmm... trying to make this easier to administer considering so many people could be jumping in and out of the series. If indeed a division format is adopted for this series, how about an incremental p/w penalty system for each division instead of for each driver?

Again, just thinking of suggestions to make things easier for everyone, but I'll go along with any format 👍

ERacer

On a side note: I took the Corvette Stingray Coupe '63 out to El Capitan and then out to Seattle. HP +5 and Kg -5. Great battles with the other cars in the field and liked the way the 'Vette handled. Try it 👍

Hi to all. here is a crazy thought:
Since gt4 claims to be the real driving simulator we could use more "every day cars" just as they leave the factory, with N3 tires.
And keep the selection to real life market competitors i.e: Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Vlll MR GSR(276hp) v/s Subaru Impreza WRX Sti Spec C (276hp)
or maybe a BMW M3(338hp) v/s Mercedes Benz CLK 55 AMG(347hp) and in the FF section maybe a Ford Focus ST170(170hp) V/s Peugeot 206 RC (174hp)
And since we will be using N3 tires hp or torque diferences wont matter that much (maybe you will be using a more powerful car, but it wont handle as well as your underpowered, but lighter or maybe better suspentioned or with better braking capacity oponent)

just my humble opinion.

P.S: sorry for my bad english:dunce: , i hope you can get the idea. 👍

Update
I just did some "Field research" with the impreza and the evo
Tsukuba 5 laps with ROAD tires
The best out of 5 for the Evo: 1.05.613
The Best out of 5 for Impreza: 1.05.862

Now i will try with FR cars.

Bad news. The CLK is no contender to the M3

Tsukuba 5 laps with Road tires
The best out of 5 for the M3: 1.05.472
The best out of 5 for the CLK: 1.07.523

I thought that maybe the CLK could be faster on a straight line. So I went to simulation mode and bought a brand new M3 and CLK. Put them on N3 tires and took them to 0-1.000 meters test.
TCS at 1.
3 attempts for each car.
M3: 24.953 secs. @224 km/h
CLK:25.793 secs. @222 km/h

Some one could say; so? whats the problem, just took some weight of the clk and problem solved.
But my idea was race them as they came from the dealer.

I am a little sad.

BTW: Works fine for FF cars
Tsukuba 5 laps. N3 tires
Peugeot 206 RC: 1.12.548
Ford Focus ST170: 1.12.736

I am going to see any FR Japanese car combination that works.

Again Tsukuba, the best out of 5 laps with N3 Road tires
Toyota Supra rz 97: 1.06.869 This one have a serious tendency to over power drift on second gear, really a fun car to drive
Mazda rx7 rz(fd,j) 93: 1.07.124 Awesome Lift-off potential.

Right,

I am going to do my laps round Laguna Seca (GTPLMS) and take my licks there, then I am going to spend the whole weekend setting up, and testing the first combo for this series and the potential divisional qualifier (and that is going to be a CLASSIC!!! All who have done the special licenses in GT-Mode will know it VERY well!)

I am VERY greatful for all the suggestions mates, and I will be asking Marty and Phil to help out with the testing throughout.
And either/or/both Optical and Bigracer to help with the running of a splits leaderboard (If they know how to do it that is, cos I don't yet.)

Neil

Could we include this one? It was lots of fun because the AI's hung in there for a few laps and I had to draft and battle my way through for a few rounds:

Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C2) '63
+3HP/-3Kg (new settings from previous test)
RM/RM
Seattle (Reverse), also ran it at El Cap (Forward)

ERacer

Been thinking this series should involve one of the BLACK BEASTS .. so im currently looking for a suitable venue/race {pitty they aint available in Arcade Mode.. even though the Nissan is sometimes seen as an opponent}

.... reading and willing to do any testing Neil 👍

Yes I agree, it would be nice to include a black car race. But not everyone has an Uber Save, let alone the MaxDrive to transfer one.
So if and when we do a race in GT mode and use one of the cars that comes in black, people will have the choice as to whether they get the black one or use the std coloured ones instead.

There is no difference between the cars as far as performance etc, it's only the colour that is un-usual.
Besides, unless you have an Uber save, most wouldn't be able to afford the 8.5 million credits required to buy one. Let alone the fact they only show up in the used car garages on day 695 and only stay there for 1 week, and to get to that day, takes ages of buying wheels to advance the calender.

Realistically, it's a major PITA! I had to do it once to get one of the rarer cars for a race (that isn't in an Uber-save), and it took me nearly 4 hours of constantly buying wheels over and over again to get the car.

But nice idea tho mate! It all depends on the drivers participating, don't it?

Neil

you're right neil but for the fact that the blackies are quite used and have some mileage behind their names and so lack some performance compared to their coloured new mates.
even for no-ubersave companions they can be bought in the final week of the 700 day gt4 cycle in the late 90's used cars lot.

hows about these
clock races
audi R8: infinieon sports car=time 2:45 tires R3

lap runs
35 laps of sarthe (new version) car viper GTS-R tires- whatever you are the best with

Hmmm, interesting.

Though, it's a little bit of overkill using an Audi R8 @ Infineon. A bit like swatting a fly with a nuke! And most of us find Infineon a PITA at the best of times, so a 2hr45m race is a daunting prospect at best, a no show for most at worst.

35 laps of Le Sarthe in the Viper is going to end up around the 2hr mark (ish) so would be nice for the die-hards, but very scary for the less initiated. Worth thinking about as a feature, two week race. But too long to be done in a week.

We have to remember that we all will have other series to race in also.
So keep the suggestions coming, I'm taking notes (you can be certain of that), but try to keep the times down to the 30-45 minute race length unless it's somewhere like Le Sarthe or the 'Ring.
Don't want to scare away new members, or guys used to the WRS where hot-laps are the norm.

👍

Neil

Aye! I hear ya! Forgot about the mileage on the black cars. But 8.5 mill is a lot to pay for a paint-job init?

Del has plenty of black beasts in his garage .. if anyone needs one .. i'll offer them at a bargain price .

i didnt get the max drive thing, is necesary to have one to race on this(to be) series? i really hope that not.
BTW: i always miss the black beast days. Please can anyone refresh my memory?

They arrive for sale every 694-700 days .. Del has 6 of each in his {full} garage .

A Max Drive is not going to be nesc, but some form of proof of times will be needed for the qualifying race, and for the podium times.

All will be revealed in due course (very soon I hope)

Don't worry tho, it's going to be a fairly laid-back series. As most are on this forum.

Offcorse. I always connect the ps2 to a dvd recorder and record any (GTPlanet related) race, so a proof of my times wont be a problem.
I still dont own a black beast, but if you race with any other kind of car (available for buy) count me in plz.
thanks.

thank you for your answer, but i am at day 1.593.
any other suggestion?

Thanks!

Yup!

Look HERE! You will find a link to download the GT4usedcarsPAL.xls! (Thanks Famine!)

It shows you which cars appear in the used car lots on each and every day of the 100 WEEK cycle.
The black cars only appear in week 100.

All you do is take the day you are on, work out which week you are on by taking that figure, divide by 7 (to give you weeks) then subtract the hundreds.

So:
Day 1593 = 227.6 weeks
227.6 weeks - (2x100) = 27.6!

So you are in the 27th week of the 100 week cycle!

To progress quickly, you need lots of credits. Spend your time buying used wheels in the GT Auto bit of GT-mode. Every time you buy a set of cheap wheels, you progress a day.
Sorry, but that's the only way to do it (quickly and cheaply)

Neil

Once again I'm back! Very long and complicated reason for my 3 month absence.Cars, wreckers, police ,ambulances, surgeons and nerve specialists were all involved. Neil knows all about it but I'm not gonna bore ya'll with it.
Neil I'll drive any car and any course in this series but ya gotta have Deep Forest Reverse with at least a JGTC or C-class powered car. That's all for my suggestions.

Looks like it's been a bit slow around here lately, only took me 1/2 hour to get caught up on threads that interest me.

Welcome back Buddy!!!!!!!

As I remember you can rev up the days by taking Photo Travels in GT Mode and you don't need any money to do it.
