That was fun.

Somehow, I was running below 54.5s for the first Q but doodle and Moleman simply had more pace. Briefly tried taking the lead only to be tapped out of it. I was on my own until doodle caught Moleman late and raced him. Three car battle although there was nothing I could do to set up anything. Finished 3rd.

Second race was a mixed bag. It's all about catching people at the right spots and not getting caught up in anything. Pushed into the grass once and I accidentally hit Steve which forced me to back off. I did reach Jason where we had another classic battle while still catching up to Dom. Ran out of time, though, so 5th was the best I could do.

Both replays seem to be okay on my end. I'll double-check later.

Qualifying I couldn't manage anything better than a 54.8xx. Was doing ok until Jake and I were fighting it out and then it dove down under me in the last corner and I wasn't expecting it. A small tap of his rear fender threw me into the sand pit, so I ended up dropping way back. Didn't really go anywhere for a while but after a few laps managed to catch up to a few cars. Got past a couple , then Watson, brandofo and Jake got into it in the last corner and I slipped through a hole right down the middle. :) P4 on that one.

Second race I was picking off cars one at a time but then hit a brick wall on progress. After I tried desperately to keep Tony Jr behind me (:P) and failed, I clipped the left rear tire in the grass on the last corner and screwed my whole race. Couldn't keep myself together after that, outlaw caught and passed me, and that was the end of my horrible night. P6.

Just more evidence that I'm falling into the groove of a mid-pack driver. :(

Didn't help I had horrible understeer the whole time unless I hit a curb and then snap oversteer took over.

Results / Points updated. Now that we have 2 events completed, the points will only show your best overall result out of those two events. (since we are dropping your lowest scoring round)

4-way ties for both 6th and 21st.
That's because it's only showing points for 1 event. Once we get 1-2 more under our belts it will sort itself out.

Also, I need hosts for both races next weekend @ Ascari. It's coming down to the nitty gritty for getting my real car done, and now that Nissan has contacted me about a job I need to get it done ASAP. I will be spending all next weekend working on it, so I won't be around to host the races.

If anyone is interested, please let me know.

I think last night was about the best case scenario someone can legitimately hope for on reverse grid. I went into qualifying with less than 15 laps under my belt, and made a few mistakes that lead to being almost lapped in race one, but I managed to get somewhat of a feeling for the combo. Headed out race 2, got the lead early and managed to keep it on the track, running a slow, turtle like pace, I capitalized on traffic and mistakes, and came out with a pretty decent 4th for race 2.
Hope to be in better shape for Ascari though. :)

Nice photos Saint.

and...

Can we please please please take Ascari off the calendar. I know for a fact that there are more than a few people who hate the track. It doesn't really fit with your short track trend either. Can we at least put it to a vote?

Really good racing last night, was so close (I think 0.008 or something) for Pole, I just got it. That made the difference for Race 1 as I was able to lead for the most part. Great racing with Doodle for the lead, Outlaw nearly caught us in the end, but just about managed to hold on for the lead. Not sure I was as quick as I should have been in that race.

Race 2 was tough starting from the back at Brands especially, but just played it patiently and picked people off lap by lap. Doodle was a bit quicker at working through the traffic, by the time I'd got to 2nd, and him 1st, the gap was too much. Don't think I could have done much more than 2nd, was very happy with that.

I don't mind Ascari but agree it sort of doesn't fit with the rest of the Calendar (shorter circuits)

Might I suggest Suzuka East?

And I should be able to host the Group 1 race this Saturday.

I've only run about 2 laps on Ascari and would take some time to learn. If there is a change, we would have to agree very soon.

I have run about 10 laps so far. I would be all for a change but, it seems like when series start messing with the track line up or changing start times it kills participation.

Suzuka East is a fun little track but it might be too small and lacking in complexity.

I agree on both counts. And for "East" Tracks I'd be more in favor of Motegi East or GVER than Suzuka.

Oh, and this is what 0.023 looks like if anyone was curious.

I can run #2.

had a look at the replays yesterday... as i ruined my own race worrying if it was really my mistake that sent u off the track, but after watching the replay and asking for a friend's opinion (races karts, f1 enthusiast) said my overtake was clean, still sorry for what happened to you though as you had very good pace. And also regarding MULE who said, he was fed up of me hitting him.. you can watch our incident on the last laps of race 2 and he clearly steered onto me when i had the inside racing line, i would never hit anyone to pass him on purpose, it just ruins my fun, even our incident took my concentration and i spent the whole race not concentrating properly...
I also took some hits during the race from l30nkeune, brandofo, pure, but they were clearly unintentional, which is to be expected in racing... good race everyone :)

Ascari is not a race track. It's a gentlemen's country club and it's not designed for actual racing. The chicanes are easy to cut even if you're not trying.

The proper way to set up that corner is to take it wide, get on the brakes early, and aim for the apex. All of which is what I was doing. By the time I started to turn in, you were diving in there and probably should not have been. But whatev's, what's done is done. Two weeks in a row I lose out on a questionable decision by someone behind me but that's racing.

So been running some laps around ascari... i had to resort to youtube and a friend who raced there... so the concrete areas are one of a kind in ascari they are allowed to be used in racing.... but not use them as chicanes... so you can't just keep two wheels on the concrete and 2 wheels on grass... think of it as a wall is right behind the limit of those concrete chicanes... hope this helps

What are the rules on this?

Ascari Full Track_1.jpg

Here is the first chicane. Is this "barely" legal?

Ascari Full Track_2.jpg

Or is this "barely" legal for a chicane?

I would think going beyond the line here would differently be illegal/off limits.

After silverstone I really don't know.

Use of the concrete pads (1st photo) is fine in both places they are on the track. However, use of the grass in these two areas (turns 1&2, turns 16&17?) is prohibited. Everywhere else on the track follows the existing rule of 2 tires on at all times.

Yes exactly as i put it... though there is an other chicane in which the same rules should apply... think you know which one it is...
EDIT: ok saw that you mentioned turn 16 &17... thx mate
Sry didn't notice you mentioned turns 16&17 my bad

Ascari definitely is better with a Miata than the first time I drove around here with a Jaguar. Worried about divebombs, though.

WOW! You were a handful to defend, but it was an awesome race. Love the photo-finish picture too.

Yeah, I think I tried every corner just couldn't make anything stick. You didn't give me any mistakes to work with which is pretty much required for passing on such a small track with slow cars. I was only quicker through the last turn but always ran out of room before T1, and I'm not crazy enough to push it side-by-side through there... best case scenario would just kill our lap times. Too bad for me that straight isn't a few feet longer. Wouldn't be a Flyin' Miata season without some photo finishes though. GR. 👍
