Maybe it's the way I drive, but I am still 3 or 4 seconds a lap slower on my wheel than a DS3.
FallenLog, as my good friends Chatva and Tex surely remember, my transition from controller to wheel was a disaster and I got so frustrated that I considered returning it to the store.
It took me around two/two and a half months to start getting the same lap times I was doing with the controller and be competitive again.
I totally agree with Tex, if you play a race simulator you have to get your experience as close as possible from the real thing and step #1 is getting a good racing wheel.
We haven't had a Thursday theme for a few weeks so here's one:

Keep at the wheel...not only is it more "traditional" but ultimately most of use are faster and more consistant on a wheel.:P
THROUGH THE AIR THURSDAY

The players:
@vsfit in the Camaro
@Mike Lobban in the VW
@Jakedog23 in the red Viper
@aerolite in the yellow Viper

The place:
First jump at Sierra going backwards. We didn't laugh much doing this!

some f our guys really have too much time on their hands...:lol:
You don't need to be the fastest driver to get the win on Sunday night. For example this past Sunday... I did not win a single race... I did not get a single pole position.... I did not get the fastest lap in any of the races...however I still finished first on the night. I just happened to be very consistent in all the races.

My kind of racing...fast enough to be first "bottom feeder" which leads to the ole axiom....first to finish...then to finish first. Nice work Major...THEY never even saw you coming! :gtpflag:

thats why i spent a few hours getting to know laguna seca so that i was giving the best representation of my skill

That's the opposite of what you should be doing. The reason why SNAIL asks you to do around 12-15 laps is because that's likely the most people will be able to practice on each combo before Sunday rolls around. If you get more practice than others, cool, you'll be quicker, but it's also a test of how you can adapt to new combos in a short amount of practice time. If you ran 50 laps in the TT, you will likely be put in a division higher than what you are capable of when you start out.

Those bunch of rednecks, no way!!!!:D
Careful now. I don't want to have to pull your French half into this... Besides, in my late teens and early twenties I spent as much time in Windsor as I did Waterford.

Same here. What area of Michigan do you live in?
I am from Oakland county. I claim the county cause I lived all over it, from Novi to Waterford, and lots of places besides. I was just recently out by you actually. Went to Four Winds last weekend for my grandpa's 80th.

I know this is awesome!! Bring it on!! itching to get the sled out!!!
Glad to see I am not the only one that gets excited for snow! What do you ride? My father in law lives up in Atlanta (sno*drift!!!!) about a half mile off trails 4 and 9. We have been dumping money into the house we just bought, but plan on getting a pair pre rev ski doos, probably MXC's. For now we ride the in laws Legend's. Though his neighbor has an old polaris that the guy has done a bit of work to. Has some 340cc race engine. Anyway, that little thing was so much fun to just rip through the trails on. The top end wasnt even close to the legends but man was it nimble and well balanced.

I can't believe we have snow on Halloween....only in michigan.
This is actually only the 3rd time I can recall in my 33 years that it has snowed on Halloween. Though I do remember a lot of rainy, cold, crappy nights.

How did you know my other half is french!

I'm in Oakland County as well. I ride the Polaris 800 Rush Pro X. Mostly in the Gaylord area but make the trip up to Paradise a few times depending on snow. I have a house in Indian River and brother has house in Traverse City, so lots of riding distance between the two. I have relatives that live in Atlanta and Mio/Fairview area that we all ride together.

I think I see a snowmobile trip being put together here?

There have been some changes to certain policies in SNAIL.

The policy for getting off the last chance list has had a component added to it and can be read here (post # 35902).

The policy for dealing with invisible drivers and the host stuck on grid bug has been addressed and can be found here (post # 58266).

In addition to these changes, Division 6 will join the ranks of D1 - D5 and begin to run with penalties off this month. @zer05ive , could you please make that adjustment in the original post.

Hey Guys, I had fun practicing with you guys in the Yellow Room last night at Red Bull Ring. I must admit that I was getting very frustrated with myself – I lost ~5 sec per lap. I can see that I have a lot of work to do in preparation for such races and would like to sign in – could you pls provide me with a short TODO’S.

Looking forward to – cheers from Vienna, sinna123sinna123

A few of us in D7 were expecting to see no penalties as well starting this month. Is this something you have decided not to do or might it still come in the future?

There was two things I was aiming for. Being able to choose a combo and be part of the ROC but apparently none will ever happen because I don't last 2 weeks in a division and the higher you go the least chances you have.
I should be happy for being promoted again but honestly, I'm not.
Welcome to D6 MCA!

Assuming that D6 handles the transition well, D7 can expect the change for next season. Given the same assumption, D8 can expect the change to come for the following season.

2. In the event that a driver gets "stuck" on the starting grid, everyone will quit the race and we will restart the race with the grid set manually. If the driver in this manual grid race, they should press start and sit through the race. After that race is over, the room should close and switch to the back up host for the next race. If that host gets "stuck" on the grid, follow the same procedure that is listed above.

thanks for addressing this!

omg ...another guy from vienna, austria joins the league? ... so awsome ... i hope we end up in the same division one day ... preferably on red bull ring hahahahahaha.

Should we add an extra lap to the races and if something goes wrong we all do a formation lap and manually re-group on the grid in the same order. And if nothing goes wrong, we still do it and make our own grid start. It'll be like real life where they have formation laps.

That would just add more time to an already tight schedule. Let's let the game do the work for us and deal with the issues when the game fails us instead of adding time to deal with something that may or may not happen.

@STEAMER62

Here's your official S.N.A.I.L. Welcome Post!

Thanks for your interest!
Here's what you need to know (and do) in order to join:

We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the S.N.A.I.L. OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide.
Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:

1. You take the S.N.A.I.L. OLR and Racecraft Test

2. You run the Time Trial and submit your information by 23:59 EST on Saturday night if you want to race this Sunday.

3. @JLBowler PM's you with your assigned Division that we feel will give you the closest competition. You will be added to the drivers list.

4. Send a PSN friend request to the Race Director or Primary Host from your assigned SNAIL Division. Sunday night you will need to sort the online lobbies by friends and join the lobby named 'snailracing.org Division_(x) based off your Division placement from JLBowler. That lobby will be where you race Sunday.

5. Place the following links (URLs) in the favorites (or bookmarks) in your web browser for quick reference. Please make every effort to read and understand the following links. Over the years a great deal of time and effort has gone into creating this league and we would like nothing more than to have you but we ask that you take the time and effort to do your homework. 99.9% of any question you may have about SNAIL can be found in the posts below. Now if you've actually read this, post a :dunce: in this thread.

6. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍

Again, the original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread.
If you have a preference for car/wheel colour and racing number, please follow the instruction contained here.

During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.
Welcome to S.N.A.I.L. :cheers:
