Well, as I said, I don't have an understanding of how it works. I was just offering a "forgiving idea". GT-6 is just very enjoyable to me - even with the difficulties. I'm sure they will get it worked out. We just need some patience and "stick-to-itiveness".
Agreed. I have so much fun playing GT6 thanks to SNAIL and online play. It's certainly annoying and frustrating to have disconnections. But, "stuff" happens, and while the game is far from perfect, I'd rather have the somewhat glitchy GT6 vs. no GT6 online at all.
 
I agree with shark about keeping the combos because it was really just a matter of who got lucky enough to stay I came in late and didn't get to race at all because that's when everything went to crap I know part of that's my fault to but I wanted to race some
 
I respectfully disagree with scrapping the night. Why? Simple, the WC room missed an entire evening the other week due to maintenance being scheduled; something beyond our control just like the connection issues for the other rooms appeared to be last night.

We could also take this opportunity to give the West Coast Division a chance to choose the new Combos. Since we are not normally in the running this would be a nice bonus as we did not have any issues and completed the entire set of combos.

When it rains in Nascar... the remaining laps are postponed. I like the idea of at least finishing up the races that were not able to take place; but not totally scrapping the night.

This was not just a few disco's here and there, but it was widespread on all SNAIL lobbys. I think only 1 Division was able to finish Round 3.

Div-6 finished the first 3 races but may not have the statistcs for all.

I'm not saying scrap the night. Let the points still count for the season. I'm just saying freeze the combos for this week. If I won the right to choose last week, I would feel cheated although it was no one's fault in snail. If I remember right, snail prides itself on being fair and honest (how's that for a guilt trip;))
 
For what it's worth, I am NOT in favor of redoing all the same combos next week. Cape Ring needs to be gone.
+1. There is only one spot that you can pass someone and still have hopes of staying with the pack of drivers ahead of the person you're trying to pass. So best case scenario you'll make one pass the entire race and place above any drivers who spin out. I don't see a second set of races with this combo resulting in seat of your pants racing.

Compare that to the pack racing we had at Silverstone, GP/F, Brands Hatch, Monza, and even Fuji to some extent. I don't want to login Sunday night and race drivers for half a lap, then spend the rest of the race too far behind the next driver to bother chasing them down, and not worried about the drivers behind me catching up.

We need to get back to combos that have sub 2 minute lap times. It allows drivers to learn the combo and become confident in less time. I mean, a 3 lap race? By the time you've learned your opponent's weak point on the track or a spot you can squeak in a pass, the race is over.
 
We will not be finishing up the Sunday night racing on a different night this week. There are reasons for this. One, we have a tight schedule during the week to get everything done that needs to be done. If you only show up and race on Sunday and spend your week practicing, you may not be aware of everything that has to be done during the week. The incident reporting period would have to be backed up which would take time away from the stewards to get their job done, which would back up the prize selection process, which would most likely mean the combos for next week would not be anywhere close to ready for Thursday practice. That doesn't even begin to take into account trying to get everyone back together to run again on a different night.

I am working on an official ruling for what to do about last nights racing. I am waiting on a response from @zer05ive and once we have a chance to discuss it, I will be posting the official decision about last nights racing.

To be clear, the option to finish the races is not on the table for logistical reasons.

If you did not have a chance to vote for your least favorite combo, please do so in the divisional conversation that is already set up.
 
In the short time I have been involved, very thankfully, I lost the chance to race two races my first week due to disconnect problems. Last night, however, in D7, we had combo 3, race 1 done before the disconnect, and after about 20 minutes (or thirty) most were back in the room (it had switched to me being host) and most raced the third combo, 2nd race. I definitely feel bad for the one or two that did not get into that last race, I mean REALLY, cause I know how it feels, however, I vote to keep that result; even though I messed up during that race and lost two places.

I think my reason for my feelings on this is that when you work hard during the week practicing, and then you race a race, you really want the race to exist, even as I commiserate with other's -- and my fair share of -- misfortunes that seem to happen in virtual racing just as they do in metal, rubber and asphalt racing.

We have all have had Power Failures, etc ...... and usually at the most inconvenient times. Soooo, as they say, maybe we should "cut'em some slack" until this league-wide disconnect happens again?
I know - a Billion dollar enterprise ought to have all their ducks in a row, but "stuff happens" as the bumper sticker says.

Except this isn't the first time. It may have between a little more extensive this Sunday, but every Sunday there are a large number of people that get disco'd and at least one room implodes. I get the sentiment, I do, I've loved GT from day one of GT1. But man, they are killing the series right now. And that makes me sad. I like racing with you guys, and I loved the gt experience. Just to much bad blood right now. I hope they can pull it together and really put some polish on this game. It really allows for so much more diversity than some of the other racing games. I just can't sit here and defend it anymore though. I tell ta, you all and SNAIL deserve credit. Having the patience to keep dealing with this is extraordinary!

I agree with your sentiments, but when I got disco'd the last race, I think there were only 5 left standing.

30% of your Division was dropped for the last race. That's pretty significant.

Actually, we did not have combo 3, race 1 complete prior to the disconnects. We were just about to start qualifying when I and several others were disconnected. Once the room stabilized (sorta), we had 8 of 10 who started the night in the room. Then during qualifying, I was disconnected (when I would have been on pole). I came back in the room several times and waited for the second race. Started the second race, had a 5 second lead, then was disconnected again (and @BayouSimDrifter was disconnected right before I was).

Either way, it stinks. I really don't care either what the resolution is, after all we do get to drop the lowest point total for the month (which I was hoping would be last week since I did pretty poorly) - but that's another story.

Where did you come up with 30%? I'd bet it was a higher percent than that.

Evenly-Matched Competition
Have you ever watched a professional race where drivers with completely different skill levels were competing on the same track? Of course not! That wouldn't be fun to watch, let alone fun to participate in. Unfortunately, that disparity of pace is something you'll often find in organized online racing. When this happens, you'll be lucky to just a few drivers that you're truly competitive with. Everyone else will usually either be faster or slower than you. We prevent that from happening in S.N.A.I.L. by dividing our drivers into eight separate divisions based on speed and skill. This results in full grids of evenly-matched competition and creates the closest and most intense sim racing experience around!

Preparation for GT Academy
If you have your eye on competing in GT Academy one day, there is no better place than S.N.A.I.L. to hone your skills to the elite levels necessary to make it to the finals. You need to be the best of the best to make it to Silverstone, and that's exactly what the drivers in our top division are. Half of this year's GT Academy Silverstone Finalists race in S.N.A.I.L. (click here if you want advice directly from one of them). However, even if you don't aspire to win GT Academy someday, it's still great to be able to get tips and advice from many of the best drivers around. Regardless if you're a professional racer or a casual gamer, we can provide you with the perfect environment to learn and get faster!

Spec Racing
S.N.A.I.L. was the first GTPlanet league to prohibit tuning in all of our races. This combined with the fact that we race in the same cars produces a type of racing called "spec" racing. Spec racing ensures that success is determined solely by driving skill and not by differences in car power, gearing, suspension, weight, or aerodynamics. Because variables in the car are eliminated, spec racing is the truest measure of driver skill! It also produces intense battles for position because all of the cars are equally strong or weak in the same areas of the track. Another benefit of spec racing is that you'll never spend time tuning cars or wondering if someone is truly faster than you or if they just have a better tune.

Race Format
Our league night lasts for two hours and is split into three rounds. Each round consists of two races that last 10 to 12 minutes on a predetermined car and track combo. At the beginning of each round, a brief qualifying session determines the order of the starting grid. The first race is set to 'Fastest First' to reward the best qualifiers and the second race is set to 'Reverse Grid' in order to promote on-track action. Points are awarded based on our "perfect" points system. After a round is completed, we move on to the next round and repeat the same process with the next car and track combination. Once all three rounds are complete, we tally up the points and then let our interactive format kick in.

Interactive Process
Our unique format allows everyone to have a say on which cars and tracks we race. It is also used to strike a balance between familiarity and variety of cars and tracks. In other words, the progression of cars and tracks that we race is slow enough for us to learn them well, but fast enough that they don't get "old". At the end of league night, everyone votes on which car and track combo they enjoyed the least. The combo that receives the most "elimination votes" is dropped from the lineup entirely. The combo that receives the second most votes is also dropped, but only partially. This is where our prizes play an important role in our interactive format.

Prizes
A prize is awarded to the divisions winners with the three highest scores*. The division winner with the highest score gets Prize A. The division winner with the second highest score gets Prize B. The division winner with the third highest score gets Prize C: (NOTE: The three prize winners' votes do not count towards the car/track elimination vote)
Prize A: The right to select the new car and track combo to replace the combo that was voted off
Prize B: The right to replace either the car or the track of the combo that received the second most votes
Prize C: The right to "freeze" either the car or the track of the combo that received the second most votes

Promotion and Relegation
Although we split our drivers into separate divisions based on performance and skill level, we realize that our drivers are constantly improving and deserve a chance to climb the ladder of success. That's why we promote and relegate drivers before every season based on the results and data compiled during the previous season. This is also done to ensure that our races are as competitive as possible for all of our league members, top to bottom. Regardless of which division you're in, you will almost always be fighting to gain or defend a position on the track. Simply put, no other Gran Turismo league in the world can offer this much competitive racing to so many different skill levels.

Comprehensive Race Data
It's not always accurate to promote and relegate drivers based on championship points alone. That's why the massive amounts of data we track are invaluable to our league. You'd be hard-pressed to find a sim racing league anywhere in the world that tracks driver data and race results more comprehensively than we do. In fact, our S.N.A.I.L. Results document contains so much information that we have to archive old data to avoid exceeding the GoogleDoc's maximum capacity! You can use this data to track the points championship for each season and compare yourself to other drivers in categories such as fast laps, total race pace, total points, average points per race, and power rankings.

Rules
We expect all drivers to follow our OLR Rules and pursue good racecraft at all times. If you're not sure what good racecraft is, watch this video. It can be summed up in one simple 'Golden Rule' of motorsports: It is the responsibility of the overtaking driver, meaning the car that is attempting to execute the pass, to make sure that the pass is made cleanly and incident free. If you don't agree with this rule or don't think it applies to you, this is not the league for you. If you ever feel like a driver is not following the rules, please wait until league night is over, then file a Racing Incident Report. Our Stewards will review the incident and enforce the appropriate penalty on the driver in question.

How To Join Us
Step 1: Post a request to join (do not PM me, just post your request on this thread)
Step 2: Watch the thread for a reply to your post (it will include detailed Time Trial instructions)

Step 4: Get an oil change on each car, but do not do anything else to the car (e.g. add parts or reduce weight)
Step 5: On Sunday night, join the room number of the division you're are assigned to. It will be posted on this thread 15 minutes before the races start.

I agree with your sentiments, but when I got disco'd the last race, I think there were only 5 left standing.

Of course, I don't know for sure, but for some reason that I can't put my finger on, I have the feeling that some might have left at that point in the last race, voluntarily. Although, I can't blame them, if so, because the whole fiasco did throw off people's rhythms, however, no matter how bad it gets, there is something 'hard working' about sticking it out in the worst of circumstances. Again, I don't know for sure, but I have a gut instinct (that could be wrong). It seemed like I heard certain comments just before one, or two left -- again, I could have this mixed up.

Again, again, I could be wrong about this as well, but there seems to be two distinct things that basically happened: the supernova, and afterwards, the seemingly lower ability to achieve and/or maintain connectivity. My feeling was that the second part was real, but I also have the feeling that it was partly not real (over blamed). The first was unquestionably due to only PD's end (or Internet Backbone/ISP equipment-cabling per @TEX36) of the two way connectivity relationship. However (here is the part I could have wrong), the second part possibly involved both PD's end and individual's quality of Internet connection.

I might be in a partly unique vantage point to notice this since I just upgraded my connection, but, It seemed that those who had problems in the past with connectivity (like me before I upgraded, and in my short time here I have noticed some other people having a pattern of connection problems), were the ones having more problems in the second part. I am sure no one wants to lose their connection, randomly or purposely, but once the room was up again, I did not lose connection and I did not have problems staying in the room during the last race. Maybe there was a little, well deserved, venting going on during this second part about the second part, but maybe it wasn't all due to the PD's supernova 'at that point' and so it might not be fair to totally want to throw out what went on during the second part. I COULD BE WRONG, IT's only my opinion.💡

Could be, I just know I was disco'd in the middle. Again, just saying count the points but keep the combos for this weekend.
