I'll just hold it out of the window of my car as I drive down the interstate. I don't see any potential for problems in that.

I'm doing some testing for Magic Lap right now and I'm wondering what the best room is to test in. I'm in the D3 lounge but someone just joined to test the Sunday race.

I know there was some decision made about what rooms would be used for what testing, but I suppose I never saw it.

Actually, for right now, I'll just do it in my own lounge. 👍 But in the future, if I want to do some testing that requires other Snails to participate, where should I do it?

Other games are working on the PS3, but not GT5... On any account, now. Even with a different disc.

Correction: Son's account can log into GT5, but game takes 8-9 minutes to load... But no... and it actually hangs up after selecting the GT Life ... Cruel!

Then pulls through as I am about to quit. Transitions from any screen take 2+ minutes.

This doesn't bode well...

FWIW, the local GameStop guy was wondering if GT was a game that put a heavy load on the laser, and maybe that could be fixed by Sony... That sounds funky to me...

I will delete and reinstall... But what am I deleting? The GT5 data below where the game disc icon is found? Not the Game Data Utility, I am guessing...

I would say that doing it in the same lounge that you will use for the actual event is ideal. The Sunday night races can always be practiced in the D1 lounge no matter what division you are actually in, and typically are. You probably could've sent the other guy there.

You might also try loading GT5 after disconnecting your PS3 from the network. Sometimes a glitch somewhere will cause loading hangups. I actually had that happen this morning. Loaded fine the second time, though.

How far does it get?

In general, practice sessions should be held in the D1 lounge. If anyone needs access to it, please let me know.

That being said, if you're just looking for some private time in the lounge you'll be racing in on Sunday night, of course nobody is saying you can't do that. However, if you're in the Division 2 lounge and anyone comes in to test for STaTS, then they would have priority. Similarly, if you're in the Division 3 lounge and anyone comes in to test for Cat & Mouse or Magic Lap, then they would have priority.

Bottom line, the SNAIL_Division1 lounge is the best place to practice. :)

If it's not working every time then it probably isn't the issue, but it's worth a shot. Just disconnecting the cable should work. You could also just disconnect from the network in the XMB before loading the game.

A re-install of the game is a more likely solution, but that obviously will take a lot longer to try out.

Goat's asking about the 1mil cap for cars used in S.N.A.I.L. events. That was just to make sure that the cars we use are easily accessible. There's been a bit of talk about whether or not that's really necessary, though.

Does it matter which account/ID I delete and reinstall from?

I think I am going to clean out the garage for a bit. It will be more fun. >8-(

We are just about to lockdown STaTS II. If anyone else is interested, jump in now.

And yes, there will be a STaTS III for October.

SNAILs,
If you haven't checked out STaTS, I highly recommend that you do so asap!! The first season was a blast and the second season will be even better! It's by far the most creative and original racing series on :gtplanet: IMO. What I like about it the most, is that it blends sports and racing into a unique hybrid that takes the best of both worlds. Just click on the link in my sig to see what I mean!

What are you waiting for? ;)

You can try just deleting the game save first and see if that gets you anywhere. That can be done from any account.

Then try the game data. That's only installed on your PS3 once so it won't matter where it comes out of.

Oy.

What are you waiting for? ;)

Freedom.

Hi Zero,
I do need access to D1

Just shoot me now.

The PS3 can't even successfully delete...

Worst case scenario .... save all your game data. Format the hard drive (wipe it clean). Re-create account info and install previous game saves. Now re-install GT5 game data from the disk, then do all the updates. It will take a very long time but at least you'll know you started with a clean slate and can rule out corrupted and undeletable data.

Seems to me there's a recover game save option (or some such) in the options menu, if you can get to it.

Not sure if it will help, but from the sounds of it, won't hurt :(

Saved all game data... Check!

Now... Lost at next step. I am a console new-guy, and this is the first hiccup I have had.

Sorry for my ineptitude at this... It really IS my fault, according to my wife.

AP, my wife offered me "freedom" but I told her the 'for better or for worse' really meant "as is, where is, no deposits, and no returns!"

I had similar symptoms on my PS3 last year. Backup everything you need. Boot to the Recovery Menu, and do option 5 "Restore PS3 System". It'll format and reload the system to a like-new state. Mine has worked fine ever since.

PS. You can try the less-destructive options first (Rebuild FS, Restore DB), but my issues did not stay away until I did #5.

Apmaddock

Thanks. Garage got too hot. On it until Wife kicks me off.

Since then...

Per the instructions on AP's post, the hold power down until you get consecutive beeps doesn't do anything on my machine, hooked to internet or not. Just reboots and confirms HDMI input, screen size, and gets back to 'abby normal' ness...

Three different attempts to simply install GT5 (3 online, 3 not connected), got to a maximum of 2/3 downloaded before could not complete.

And the 'extra topping' was the wife reminding/telling (depends on who you ask) that we have tickets for this Sunday evening - I swear it was for Saturday! - to go to some show she's excited to see.

I won't be on Magic Lap, and apparently I won't be on Sunday evening as well.

I'm going to go stew.

Sounds like you're not holding the button down long enough. Start with PS3 off. Hold power button. The system will turn on but just keep holding until it turns back off. Let off the power button. Then press it again and hold until a double beep. Then release.

Here's a youtube.

Pilmat,

Nice racing sim setup on your Flickr posts!

I also really like your step by step mods on the RC truck and slot cars. Very methodical.

Thank you! Sorry I was away for real racing and this post slipped back a couple of pages.

The guides are something I do to share cool stuff I find/do with others, and to catalogue it for myself. We learn a lot by teaching others :)

And I'm pained by your PS3 woes. Hope you get them sorted before the races on Sunday

A reminder, Magic Lap is in 45 minutes!

I'm doing some testing right now that could make things a bit more complicated but hopefully for the sake of accuracy.

It may require drivers to line up on the track from slowest to fastest before each race. We'll see if it works out.
