After months of delays, technical issues, and procrastination, I'd like to announce that the SNAIL Marketplace has finally been revamped and is now ready for its 2019 relaunch! At the height of it's popularity, the Marketplace was an active hub where lots of cool prizes and swag were exchanged between our community of Snails. Let's make 2019 the year that we bring the Marketplace back to life!!

Be sure to collect $hells for everything that you do to help SNAIL because there are sure to be some cool items up for auction soon! Simply go directly to the Marketplace (linked above) or click on the 'earn $hells' link in my sig. When you do, you'll notice a vastly improved and trimmed down list of league duties to choose from. You'll also notice that the amount of $hells that each duty earns is listed at the end of each option. You no longer have to repeatedly check your $hell balance to verify how many $hells you earned from week to week!

I'd like to give a big shout out to @SAMHAIN85 for being the driving force behind the relaunch of the Marketplace as well as most of the improvements mentioned above. Had it not been for his persistence and determination, this whole process may have never been completed. If anyone would like to earn $hells for duties that you don't see listed, please just tag me on the thread and state your request/question. I hope to see everyone bidding $hells in the Marketplace soon!

Gentlemen, thank you so much.

Well after not racing since the beginning of last May, it was good to be back on track. Still tons of rust to knock off but that will come with more seat time.

The only question now will be to shifter or not to shifter.... Not to beat a dead horse but seeing it first hand was a real eyeopener! Even more than seeing it was actually hearing how much faster the shifts happen. You come out of a corner slightly ahead of someone only to hear their shift happen almost instantaneously while your transmission goes and has a cup of coffee and a doughnut ........ aaaaand then shifts. It's almost comical.

SNAIL will do what it does best and group accordingly as time passes. My only suggestion for those slower drivers that are exploiting the system is that you better make sure you can keep up with the faster drivers when the shifter isn't as much of a factor. Have fun with that!

The scores for Jan 6 have been copied over to Data and is ready for the Data guys.

Note to D3 data guy: Please double check the total race time for Round 3 Race 1 when you enter the data.

There's a lot of talk about it, and I've even heard(or seen on lobby chat), that some people are suggesting they may move to a different game, so my question is probably a dumb one, but is this shifter thing isolated to GTS, or does it make a difference in all games/simulators, as far as being faster, or having an advantage?

Yeah don’t worry about the host wanting to start the next race! ;)

In all seriousness I’ll certainly wait until scorekeeper is ready - don’t rush and know we’re all doing this for fun and for free!

That being said - aside from the 1 manual grid start , I felt things ran rather smoothly last night.

I raced with strictly paddles up until about a month ago. I got my ass handed to me on combos where the shifter comes into play. So I bought a shifter. Do I think its cheap as hell? Yes I do. But until we all come to an agreement to not use it (especially by the individuals who first introduced this glitch to SNAIL) then I will continue to use it. I'm not going to get run over on Sundays like I have in the past by the guys that are using it. And trust me, I would've much rather kept my $200 instead of going out and investing in a shifter and mount just to keep up on these shifter combos.

The problem is these "gentleman's agreements" never work. Just have a look at all the brake bias discussions in this thread over the years. So we seem to be at a crossroads.

I had more written, but I deleted it and I'll bite my tongue at this point.

The round that received the most elimination votes was:
Round 3 - MCLAREN ULTIMATE VISION GRAN TURISMO GR.1 (RM) at Circuit de Sainte-Croix - A - 15:10 Fine Weather (4 laps)
Therefore the entire combo has been dropped from next week's line-up. Since @Bologna_Duc wins Prize A, he gets to choose an entirely new car and track combo to replace it.

The round that received the second most elimination votes was:
Round 2 - MCLAREN 650S GR.4 (SS) at Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit - 17:00 Clear (5 laps)
This means either the car or the track will be replaced for next week's line-up. Since @SAMHAIN85 gets Prize B, he has the option to freeze the car or the track, or he can give that option to the Prize C winner. If he gives the freeze away, then he gets to decide what car or track replaces the part of the combo that is left unfrozen by the Prize C winner.

Prize C goes to @Grandpa Money so he gets whichever option the Prize B winner does not select.

Preliminary prize winners, please don't announce your prize selection until all incident reports have been filed and it has been confirmed that you don't have any penalties. It's also recommended that you review the SNAIL combo history and other data on our car and track history so that you can get an idea how many times we've raced each car and track. Please remember that originality is always appreciated, so picking cars and tracks that we've never raced is a plus (but not required). What's more important is that you thoroughly test any combo that you are considering before making it your official selection. For example, any car you select should not hit its rev limiter at any point during a race (even in the draft).

IMPORTANT: When posting your Prize A or Prize B selection, please list the complete in-game name of the car and/or track you are selecting. For example, if you want to select the Amuse Superlegara for your car, post "Amuse Nismo 380 RS Superlagara". If you want to select Monza for a track, post "Autodromo Nazionale Monza". This makes it much easier for the lineup to be updated accurately and also prevents confusing other league members as to which car or track you are selecting. Also, please be sure to list the PP and HP (after oil change) of any car you select.

After steward review, the 1st prize winner had changed to @TomMang_68 . The second and third prize winners remain as announced. @SAMHAIN85 @Grandpa Money . All prize winners will be included in a conversation in the next few minutes that will contain instructions and deadlines.

Prize A will need to be amazing if this week's races are going to catch my interest. Maybe I'll just have the wife meet me for dinner at the golf course after my round (weather permitting). They have an all you can eat prime rib on Sundays so that might be worth a shot.

Way to stay positive 👍

Bathurst is not one of my favorite tracks - but I will say its more enjoyable since they've fixed the jaggy blue wall coming off the mountain. And being one of the tracks I have always struggled with, this forces me (and those who are in the same boat) to improve at it. Thats my thinking behind my pick anyways. Plus we've had the McLaren for a couple weeks, and with so many cars that have yet to make an appearance in SNAIL...hopefully we'll get to use one.

Speaking of unused cars, I didnt see this posted in the thread yet:

I get that the McLaren has been around too long for most people's taste but I share your opinion of Bathurst. I am of the opinion that I would rather run the same car for six months than race at Bathurst. I keep giving it a shot when it's chosen but am quickly reminded of why I don't like it. In my opinion, it's just not suited for sprint racing.

I spy a HR 350Z in there.

Ya, let’s slow things down, SNAIL used to be primarily street cars. There has to be a street car out there without shift lag. @TomMang_68

Agreed.
SAMBA BUS!!!!!!!!!!!!
See? There’s always ‘that guy’ who takes it too far . N200, N300 would not be painful but a welcome change.
Why does everyone want to go so fast? Sheesh! This isn’t Need for Speed or Midnight Club.
