Great night of racing this week, my best so far almost hanging out with the top guys in D1 (except in race 3 which I can’t get the hang of it) I’m slowly getting back into the groove. I had great battles especially in race 1. It was a pleasure to fight cleanly on track with you guys, it makes being tired on monday worth it.

You did really well last night @Worst_Driver and love how you mention “Fight cleanly”. Great description.

Reminds me of fights with my brother growing up. In the midst of anger, sometimes even rage, we’d pound on each other over stupid crap like who controls the TV remote. But punches to the face (rear-end punt or dive bomb shove) were frowned upon and against the unwritten rules. An immediate pause in the pummeling and “on-track” concession were granted before fighting could resume. You ok? Yeah. Let’s go. Always ended bloody, scratched and sweating but all was eventually forgiven.

I love all my pretend racing brothers! I look forward to fighting cleanly for that last podium spot again next weekend.

If the last race combo was anything but a GR4 car I would definitely not have won D2. I originally read the combo as West (which I have raced many times) and not West II (which I raced zero times). So imagine my surprise when we come out of the pits and I'm facing the wrong way. I basically just tried to follow people around without causing too many issues...which is a bit easier in a high grip, low power car than in a street car. Late in the race I managed to pass Evo on one of the straights but was completely lost on where to turn in and I almost took us both out while missing my turn in point by a large margin ;) After that I just tried to follow Evo around to figure it out.

Last race was a little better. It's no fun learning a new track during a race. Just reacting to everyone else an interesting tactic ;)

The scoring issue in D2 has been corrected, I think.

@Rednose58 The issue was an additional "space" that was entered when the driver registered. Some of the sheets that pull from the registration and subsequent sheets don't like the extra space after the name and drop it. This results in someone having to go through all the places where their name is and deleting the extra space after the name. I think I took car of all the instances where there was an extra space.

D1 I apologize I raced heated, plz understand I’ve been in snail long time, I get told I’m too aggressive or im
Desperate, and I’ve been giving a lot more then taking lately but there only so much someone competitive can take,

Still lots of great racing tonight
But from now on I will be not giving guys breaks who have more pace, I don’t get same respect and they know who they are.

Let’s hope GT7 brings more divisions so guys enjoy the racing more not feeling always in the way.
As Snail's official "moving pylon" I know the 'in the way' feeling. However, there are some fast drivers that are able to get past me with little fanfare (fanfare= hitting me), thank you @SAMHAIN85 @IceWarden and others. A good driver is both fast, patient and clean. My pace has increased and I now try to drive without undue attention to my mirrors, ie. drive as fast as I can, following a line I think is best and let the person behind me figure out how to get by. That's their job.

Having said that I will leave an inside line if a driver has been catching me at the rate of seconds a lap and is clearly way faster. Having said that, if we are in a true battle for position I will be determined. And just a reminder, your front bumper overlapped my rear bumper does not constitute an overlap and rights to a corner. 😀

^^^ This guy is hilarious. "Moving pylon" my ass. @CANOWORMS1 is constantly throwing up fast last laps and blazing with the fastest guys.

The only reason people catch you is your inconsistency. You might think people are catching you because we are so amazingly fast, when instead it's usually because you had a minor bobble costing you a half second or so. You probably put more pressure on yourself than we put on you ;)

I will say I got more consistent by not going into the race trying to "win" or "beat" certain guys. That's how alot of people (including myself) drive or used to drive. This usually ended up with me overdriving the car and then getting frustrated. The more modern version of me tries to sit behind the wheel and think of the fun/clean battles I will try to have.

Shout out to @llNovall series where the races are long and the competition closely matched. You can't just throw your car down the inside and blaze away. You just have to train yourself to sit in line and enjoy the view sometimes.

So I started just driving to enjoy the drive. If it's a tight battle then I just brake earlier than usual to avoid running into people or the failed divebomb attempt. I used to drive for the coveted Prizes ;) Now I try to just drive for the enjoyment and if a battle ensues then all the more fun but I try not to let it affect my driving. "Brake early" instead of "out braking" is a good mantra I think to get more out of the experience. The problem arises when those around you do not share your mantra...then frustration and anger can surface when you are in the grass and the group is pulling away.

That race at Sardegna where you were winning I had decided I wasn't going to try and pass you. Just stay close and have fun. I don't race Sundays every week so I don't want to mess up any points battles. Then you went off trying to give me room to pass ;) Just stick with it and concentrate on the lines and braking points more than "staying ahead". Driving to stay in the lead causes overdriving which just leads to more frustration ;)

So trust yourself...use the force...

Sorry for double post...but one thing I think I need to work on that I see the upper D1 guys do is choosing alternate lines when in traffic. I tend to just stay in my preferred lane and run my chosen lines. But in traffic this can really slow you down if you stay in the line of accordion traffic. Like at Tsukuba I will just tend to go "out, in, out" on most of those corners. But when the driver in front is doing the same thing, you really need to choose alternate lines. I noticed some of them in reverse grid races choose the "out, out, out" lines. If the guy in front is braking and diving toward the apex and driving out...the following driver can choose to brake deeper along the wide outside of the road and just continue along the outside line all the way around. This can avoid the accordion and allow you to choose your own flow. As long as the guy in front doesn't put you off the road as he tracks wide into your path ;)

Something I need to try more often...instead of tunnel vision on the standard line.

More musings...as you can see I had time to kill today for some reason.

Thanks for that @IceWarden. 😊 You were fortunate to miss my debut in Jan 2020. That year I was a true moving pylon, with poor knowledge of braking points. Ask anyone from div 3 or 4 that year. But, you hit the nail on the head about overdriving. When learning a new combo my best lap time is often the 3rd or 4th one, while I'm still relaxed and not pushing it hard. Then I think "I can do better" and over drive the car/track, rather that thinking "Let's do it like that again." and again.

And consistency, I think that was one of the very first pointers I was given in Snail. It's only been in the past year that I have been comfortable enough in the cars that that can happen. Maybe, not trying to push it so hard is what is helping. And I've also tried the more laid back approach as well, just work on keeping up and passing the driver in front of you.

So next time Ice, no gap for you! 😂

Last thing…not mashing the throttle and brakes. And learning when to coast instead of mashing one or the other. That’s pretty key also. Good car control is knowing when to lightly apply partial throttle or partial brakes. Like the right hand kink at Tsukuba between the two hairpins I don’t brake for that. I just ease off the throttle in 3rd gear until corner exit. I never went into 1st gear either.

Everyone probably knows all this but…time to kill :)

And should it be a full off throttle, or just a partial ease. Low gear, high rpm? Every up shift takes time. Many cars have good low end power and torque. So no 1st gear in the TVR. Also, I don't automatically push the rev limiter. My claim to fame is when I pulled past @SAMHAIN85 going up the hill at Nurburgring GP in the Toyota MR2. Peak HP for the MR2 is before the HUD bar even shows and drops steeply most of the time while the bar is lit. I was shifting at 1/2 bar or less, my HP was always increasing while others was decreasing. Sam actually checked his HP and weight settings.

And if everybody knows this stuff, then a reminder is always good. And I feel there are always enough drivers that may not know this stuff that it's worth mentioning. As a chemistry teacher of 30 years I read many intro textbooks, learned something new every time. :D:cheers:

edit: OK. So, maybe it was more Sam didn't blow by me coming out of the hairpin. 😀😇

The round that received the most elimination votes was:
Round 2 - TVR TUSCAN SPEED 6 2000 (SS) at Sardegna - Road Track - B - 13:10 Clear (10 laps)
Therefore the entire combo has been dropped from next week's line-up. Since @gatordaryl wins Prize A, he gets to choose an entirely new car and track combo to replace it.

The round that received the second most elimination votes was:
Round 3 - HYUNDAI GENESIS GR.4 (RH) at Autodrome Lago Maggiore - West II - 21:00 Clear (10 laps)
This means either the car or the track will be replaced for next week's line-up. Since @IceWarden gets Prize B, he has the option to freeze the car or the track, or he can give that option to the Prize C winner. If he gives the freeze away, then he gets to decide what car or track replaces the part of the combo that is left unfrozen by the Prize C winner.

Prize C goes to @Timlour so he gets whichever option the Prize B winner does not select.

Preliminary prize winners, please don't announce your prize selection until all incident reports have been filed and it has been confirmed that you don't have any penalties. It's also recommended that you review the SNAIL combo history and other data on our car and track history so that you can get an idea how many times we've raced each car and track. Please remember that originality is always appreciated, so picking cars and/or tracks that we've never raced is a plus (but not required). What's more important is that you thoroughly test any combo that you are considering before making it your official selection. For example, any car you select must not hit its rev limiter at any point during a race (even in a draft).

IMPORTANT: When posting your Prize A or Prize B selection, please list the complete in-game name of the car and/or track you are selecting. For example, if you want to choose the Integra Type R as your car selection, post "Honda Integra Type R (DC2) '98". If you want to select Monza for your track, post "Autodromo Nazionale Monza". Being specific helps us to update the lineup accurately and also helps avoid any confusion among the drivers. Also, please be sure to list the HP and Weight (LBS) of any car you select. For track selections, include the time of day (e.g: 09:00 Clear) or else it will be left to default.

This week's prize winners are clear to make their selections. Good racing!

The IR Submission Form is now closed.

We have no incidents on file.

@Timlour is not eligible for prizes this week so @Nicktune is the third prize winner. He along with @gatordaryl and @IceWarden are clear to make their selections. They will be added to a conversation in the next few minutes that will contain instructions and deadlines.

I will pass the freeze.
With that decision, we have a repeat prize winner this week.

If you raced in D1 this week, you get to vote to freeze the HYUNDAI GENESIS GR.4 (RH) or Autodrome Lago Maggiore.

Voting will close at 11:59 PM ET tonight (Tuesday) or when a majority is reached.
You may only vote once, you may not change your vote, and your vote must be cast by posting in this thread.
