Just offering my advice as I had been there before with edge of track discussions.

I didn't say that was the way, just what I had done for another place. It's his club, it's his rules. I will respect that.

No no! Speak up! I sure every idea is more than welcome so we can have a great racing experience. I just want everyone to follow the rules put forth so we use our skill not short cuts or cheating.

Thing is when you quote someones post and ask everyone to move on, the assumption is you were dismissing the post you quoted as unnecessary.

Sorry but I think it gets worse when questions aren't fully answered which makes more people ask the same questions in different forms. So let's set the rules and move on. That's all I was saying. And by the way I don't own a stick. LOL!
 
It seems that if everyone alreaady knew it, there would be no discussion.

Back when GT3 was popular (here we go with the reminiscing...) There was no paved area at the aforementioned area of Deep Forest. There was a time trial event with that track that we used as a guideline for defining what was or wasn't part of the track. The same area was also used in some of the license tests. They would allow two tires to be in the grass as long as the other two were on/above the track surface, curb, or berm. Those were the rules I've policed myself with until this monster concrete patch showed up.

Like some of the other guys here, Ive raced with those that say if penalties are not applied, then its fair game. Sadly, I've grown accustomed to driving that way.

My vote is to count the berm, rumble strips and curbs as part of the track. The concrete pad, by my interpretation, is off limits.
 
I thjnk the OLR spells it out well. if your pass the rumble strips our off (rumble strips ARE the white and read curbs) if you dont see those, then the white/yellow line is the next guide, and if you dont see those, then its probably cause there is a wall right there. Anything anywhere beyond those and your OT.

I'm new to the league. Just raced two weeks so maybe I should keep my option to myself until I race a little more.
I'm just someone who speaks down the middle, like a fastball, sometimes that might offend some people so I'll just race and not post anything right now.
 
I think if there is a rumble strip (Deep Forest) or cones/moveable barriers (Laguna Seca, Nurburgring) then that area is clearly not part of the track and you should not have more than two wheels in that area at any time unless avoiding a wreck or forced there by another driver. However, I don't think the same logic extends to the areas on Trial Mountain which are marked by yellow diagonal lines. There is no historical basis to calling those areas out of bounds, as there is with Deep Forest where the concrete runoff area is a relatively new adition, and computer controlled drivers do utilize those areas on Trial Mountain, which they don't on Deep Forest. I think that indicates that those areas at Trial Mountain are indeed part of the course.

As far as monitoring corner cutting activities, maybe it makes more sense to only enforce these policies when cutting the concrete area is used to advance a drivers position or gain an advantage while racing for position. That way there is no need to review every lap of every drivers replay. Incidents would be obvious because they would, by defintion, only occur when other drivers are arround if we defined the rules that way.

I have to admit, the NSX is killing me for spin outs and loss of control. I dug out my wheel, but I don't have a stable anchored surface yet in the TV room.

I'm going to run a quick race or two on the A-spec to see if I can get used to the controls again before I go back to the view MissD suggested I use last night. Too many changes at once can be counter-productive, but so can driving the NSX at the moment. :-). Another mounta... Er. Hill to summit on my road to getting better.

hey handle, you crafty with a saw and a drill? I can give you easy instructions on making a quick, easy and cheap stand.

With that scenario, it would be okay for a driver to improve his lap times by "cheating" as long as other drivers aren't battling for position with him. However, what if the driver in the lead is the one who's doing the "cheating"? It would hard for other drivers to gain enough ground on him to battle for position if he keeps increasing the size of his lead with the help of this "cheating".

In general, I don't think there's a point in having rules if you aren't willing to enforce them all the time.

I just use a wooden TV tray stand thingie.

I wasn't expecting this much trouble from the NSX. I didn't get much time in it, and it is possible I had the wrong tires, but in four laps I couldn't get a clean one. My fastest was 3:22?

I ran about eight laps at DF-R. My first flying lap was 1:29.2. Frustrated because none of my other laps were faster. It is like doing a license test and the first attempt being a tenth away form gold and then taking forever to beat it. I think I'll have to relax and try again. At least I didn't go off.

Two wheels (except when airborne, where the vertical projection of the car onto the track counts) must be in contact with the track/circuit which includes the rumble strips and footpaths, but not grassed areas.

Okay, sorry I missed that part of the OLR. I don't really agree with it though.. I'm a firm believer that rumble strips are intended for your outside tires, not your inside tires. Isn't the reason they "rumble" in the first place to provide an audible and physical warning that you're about to leave the track?

My disagreement with the OLR aside, I do think it would be better to just stick to those rules rather than start modifying them. First, it's just simpler to do it that way and I like simple. Also, there's an inherent benefit of using standardized rules that it seems like the rest of gtplanet is using as well.

Therefore, I'm leaning towards just going with the the OLR says. Had I know they had a section on this, we probably wouldn't have needed to debate it. That being said, can anyone tell me why the rule about rumble strips is only listed under the section for Offline Racing? Why would they not state the same rules for online racing?
 
Actually... Yes! I have drill press for other stuff, but never looked at how to set up a wheel/driving set up.

I'm either On a couch with tbd stand, or yank in a stand alone chair (kitchen style) plus whatever stand, etc. I think main wheel is a G-25.

Im thinking because inherently your going to use those rules throughout reguardless. I dont know why they would even add on offline section to on online rules sheet at all. But to me, it just seems they did that because the rules in the online section only apply to online. The offline section seems to cover only what you can and cant hit, jump, skip or bounce off, through, over or around. They should rename it Off Track, not Offline.

I would imagine it was in place before online racing was an option, and it was assumed that the in game penalties would enforce the same guidelines during online play.

Im assuming that whom ever made the guide wrote offline racing without a description, then whom ever edited it saw no description and wrote that in without actually reading what the section was about, and assumed that offline meant said description instead of actually meaning off track. Sounds complicated, but its so easy.

I got tired of building rigs so I broke down and bought a Playseat evolution. Price is right and no more snack tables for me. It costs, with all the bells and whistles, about $450.00 through Amazon. Works excellent with the G25/G27. I'll send you pics of you like?
 
I figured out my straightline speed issue with the S2000 on DFR; I had detuned the engine to 78% so I could use it in a 400PP race and never reset it back :banghead:

I'm handy, but my time is worth poss buying something, as well...

With the help I received, I went from 1:37 to 1:32' andI can easily see much room to improve!

Managed a 1:29 and a couple of 1:30s, but I had a lot of spin outs.

This I blame partly on the fact that I just got a DFGT on Sunday and am still getting used to it. Overall I love the thing and feel very comfortable driving it, but when it comes to drifting, sliding, or saving myself from spinning, I have to get lucky or I'm gone.

I'm probably faster on a hot lap with the DFGT and more consistent, but more on the edge, as well.

I've got my wheel attached to a wooden TV tray, as well. It works pretty well but is a little top/front heavy, which is really only noticeable when–you guessed it–drifting, sliding, or saving myself from a spin.

So post up your pics/blueprints. I'm certainly interested. I was considering possibly designing something myself, but maybe you could save me from the trial and error process.


In other news, I upgraded the upload speed of my internet connection just slightly, but so far things are going well. Getting into a room with one of the guys that I had trouble connecting with earlier will really test the situation, but I was even hosting a room today with Chthulu and things seemed to go well.

Logitech makes those. Best Buy has them for $139.00. Save up your money and get a G27, also made buy Logitech. Amazon has them for $249.00. Well worth the money!
