So my question is. Take last turn in the 350Z Deep Forrest race. Down hill into a right. M

If car A is in the lead of car B. coming into braking zone. Car A takes the normal approach. Wide(left side) and apex and wide out. Is Car B legally able to brake later from behind and take that inside. Forcing the lead car to give up his line as its been taken from him by a car driving deep and this car will always exit slower doing this move. Slowing both cars but car B gets the lead as he forced car A to either brake or get run into as he turns in.

What is legal here?

Spring Break starts today so I got D4 pics out early. Enjoy.

The way the rules are written, it all comes down to where are the two cars at the moment of turn in by the lead car. If car B has his front bumper to the drivers position by the time the lead car turns in then car B has the right to the inside in that turn.

It's late braking, it's not a dive bomb, it's not a dirty move, it's a case where the lead driver left the opening and car B took advantage of it. Car B has to be sure they have the proper overlap or they would be on the hook for a penalty and that would be a dive bomb.

When he was really at his best, it looked a bit more like this:

This is one of the greatest first laps ever. The other one had it's reasons and we all know he took Prost out intentionally there but that's another side if F1 and has nothing to do with D1.

The turn I speak of. Outside car will be turning in as the inside car that comes from behind late braking will still slowing the car. So his tighter inside line will have a much later turn in.

So if Car A was turning right slightly before Car B moved inside then its illegal?

Personally think its dirty and unsportsmanlike move. If you are beside the car before braking zone. It's one thing. To drive deep and brake later. Forcing yourself to take a turn slower all to make a pass. Seems counterintuitive while racing to catch some other leaders.
Hmmm maybe I'm just to respectful of track position and don't take enough risk. However reputation of clean and fair supersede any win or position for me.

Another fairly commons be is the bump in braking and running under as you just caused the guy more speed and he has to gather his car. If you give a guy a push. Don't pass then. That's shady and shows zero respect.

If Car A has begun to turn before Car B has proper overlap, then Car B has no right to the corner and should back out of the pass attempt. That is the way the rule is written.

Late braking, when done properly is not dirty or unsportsmanlike in any way. When it's done right, Car B would gain overlap before Car A started their turn and Car A would be able to see that Car B was already there. If Car B doesn't gain overlap until Car A has started their turn and committed to a line then you have an illegal move.

Yeah, the bumping to pass has no place here. If you have to push someone wide from behind then you shouldn't make that pass under any circumstances.

That drives me nuts! Happened almost every race in practice last Wednesday.

I think, by what i've been reading, that D1 became a vanity fair. It's human nature...You're not happy just by getting on top. You have to eliminate those who got on top with you.
They are all very good and talented, they basically have the same level of skill, concentration and pace so it gets harder and harder to beat your opponent simply by getting perfect race lines, flawless breaking points and impeccable throttle control. You definitely need something more to overcome other pilots and since shortcutting is absolutely forbidden, i can't think of anything else but extreme aggressive driving.

Suggestion: add "mechanical damage" and maybe slightly longer races to D1 and the passing moves will be taken much more carefully. And you'll probably notice, then, some difference in skill level. I'm sure it'll be more fun for everybody.

It's over used and required by drivers that would not be able to make the pass otherwise. Worst and Owens are extreme examples of guys that don't need to do this (and don't). I apologize for leaving out names of other awesome drivers in D1.

Just my opinion.

Accidents do happen, and practice is...well, practice learning the combo. More bumping is probably going to happen during the learning curve. SNAIL OLR still applies however.

Picture is worth a thousand words...

Diagram 1 works well but only when the guy on the outside realizes that he is beaten and should fall in line behind. What usually happens is that the guy on the outside tries to fight back on the outside (which can work if you can hang there and be on the inside for the next turn), or just driver to the inside disregarding the proper position of the driver on the inside.

at the end of division 4 racing, i was asked to vote but left the room right when i was asked. What would i be voting on after the 3 rounds of races are over? by the way, great racing.

I agree that something needs to be done because those that do drive aggressively are making those who do not drive aggressively drive the same way. You have to adapt or be run over.

That is why I left and don't know if I'll be back. I have never minded getting hit or bumped. But when you keep on bumping me (in a car that is hard to handle) and spin me out. Then you are just lucky it is a game. Don't know who did it and don't care. Two days of practice shot with getting taken out both races. Don't have time for that way of racing.👎

You'd be voting for your least favourite car/track combination. Feel free to post your selection here 👍

Sorry to hear that Ken. That's uncalled for. Hope you keep racing with us.

From my point of view, I'm alright with the way the racing goes down in D1, never had a complaint about anything. Owens, Qwiet, Hill, Danger, Gumball, Racefan and well the whole gang has been great to me.

Well your point of view most of the time is clear track lol

So what you're saying is that you're willing to put two days of practice in to get ready for Sunday night, but you're not willing to take two minutes to file a complaint against the driver(s) that took you out of those races? Also, you'd rather quit racing in the league than to try to help improve the racing in it? Let me know if I'm misinterpreting what you said because I'm really confused by your logic right now.

That's a different problem altogether, but the rules need to be followed by both drivers and applies the same way.

That is a problem especially for people driving in cockpit view in cars with mad blindspots

Use map on 2. If in doubt, pull it out.

From the Good Racecraft Guide:

Overtaking & Being Overtaken

When attempting to overtake up the inside on the run up to a tight high speed corner, like 130R on Suzuka for instance, sometimes you are not close enough to pull it off. The discerning driver knows when this is the case & will yield by coming off the throttle or even braking a little if necessary, so as not to cause an incident. There is after all only 1 racing line through 130R. The aggressive driver goes for it regardless, stuffs it up the inside, causes an incident, & puts his poor racecraft on display for all to see. If both cars do somehow manage to make it through the corner side by side, which will obviously result in lower cornering speeds, the bad driver has now let the rest of the field catch up some, let the the drivers ahead increase their lead, or sometimes both. Not only is it bad manners, it is also counter productive. You will not see mature racers executing such mindlessly aggressive do or die maneuvers, they get their overtaking done well before the apex of such corners.

When being overtaken up the inside on the run up to a tight high speed corner, like 130R on Suzuka for instance, the competitive driver with good racecraft recognises when the battle is lost & will yield by coming off the throttle or even braking a little if necessary, so that both cars can make the apex of the corner at pretty much full racing speed. The overly optimistic driver will carry on around the outside at full throttle in a dangerous attempt to defend his position, which is clearly already lost. You will not see top class racers out on track performing in this way, as this kind of optimism can lead to a catastrophic & entirely unnecessary incident. However, a possible exception to these scenarios might be when two intelligent drivers are more or less alongside each other on the run up to 130R & battling for position on the final lap, where driving slower & side by side through the corner to keep track position would lead to a win, or a higher finishing position.

Spectacular night of racing!! Collected career wins 5 and 6!! First time I have ever won two in a single night. Nice work this week Pyxen!! On race 5, about the 4th lap, you tucked inside a slid right by me... I, on the other hand spazzed out trying not to hit you or the rocks to our left... Nice pass dude! Next week gonna be another barn-burner!! Thanks to the D4 crowd for yet another awesome night of racing!!

Thanks Exo! It was a great time indeed!

I worked hard on race 2 to keep up, and keep ppl off...figured I owed you one for the week before. ;)

I'm pretty sure you said "don't do it.." when I was making that pass, which made me laugh! :sly:

Btw - Great shots indeed Jester! I couldn't believe it when Dragon made that pass for 2nd at Trial Mountain....so annoying. ;)
