Got a fair amount accomplished last night but still a long way to go. The seating position is proving to be the most difficult part. I've decided to built an MDF platform that will recline the seat even further so I'm resting more on my back than on my a$$. Once that's set I'll tackle the inverted pedals! Still hopeful for Sunday.👍

That's awesome!!!! You def was ready to make this move. No more lawn chair racing. ;)

So jealous right now, I wish we were moving already so I can get to work on my new cockpit. I'll be going MDF nuts though and will be making a trips setup and I was thinking possibly using part of a real dash too. But mines going to be a full on arcade setup, running GT5, as well as a PC running some other racing games. The seat will be removable for other type of games as well. I am a fan of FPS and games like Simcity and have a couple of hardcore gamer friends I'll be geeking out with. I also plan on making a little racing setup for my daughter who loves racing too. though I think once she hits the age limit, I'll be putting her in a kart.
 
You guys are making some cool stuff! This racecraft prize sounds awesome, I was looking into a rig like that a few months ago. Can't wait to see some finished products.
 
I love Eiger! Elevation change like crazy, awesome switchbacks, a nice jump! Of course, I'm sure my name give the reason why I like it. It might get crowded with a full grid, but 8 to 10 cars should be fine, especially with the Toyota.

I still cannot get over why this awesome car got the boot! It is a handful but also really fun to drive!
 
It's only over if you're way out in the back, if you loose the front group, roll into the next and draft back to the front. In nascar, it's not over until the checkered flag. As for Eiger, I said my opinion. I just don't get it. Is it a challenge? Yep, but to me, thats the point. Otherwise, lets just run spa and high speed ring. Then you will have all the room you need and all day to pass.I also feel the only thing that promotes bad race craft, is allowing bad race craft. Its not like people are waving signs saying "smash a car". Its like saying forks promote being fat. Or a river promotes downing.

The race is over if you are lucky enough to be involved in an incident. One spin or collision and the possibility of winning is over. You can not catch the lead group unless they pull over and wait. If you get spun early nd have noone to draft with then you will get lapped.

As far as your "allowing bad racecraft" comment goes...if I could wave my magic wand and disallow all bad racecraft then don't you think I would have already? This track is to people with a history of bad racecraft like s liquor store is to a recovering alcoholic. The temptation to divebomb every corner or tap tbe rear quarter panel of the car in front to get ahead is just too great for some. Almost Every corner on that track provides a golden opportunity to do just that.
 
My biggest wish for Eigerwand is that it could be multiplied in size by say, double or triple.


Two to three times the length, elevation, and track width.

That and the idea of being able to run any of the Eigerwand Track (gravel) sections, but somehow be able to select surface type (snow, gravel, Tarmac).

Really nice racing last night but I think the nordwhatever track is kinda short for the FR-S. There was a little too much contact

Each division usually has 10 people more or less in the room on a Sunday race night and last night we had a full house.
 
What usually happens at Eiger is that people forget what happens when a pack of fast-moving cars suddenly slows down (to take turn 1, for example). If you're a tenth of a second behind the car in front of you (meaning that your front bumper is .1 behind his front bumper) at 80 mph, you have a bit of space to work with. But when you both slow to 25 for the corner, .1 seconds behind his front bumper is now somewhere in his back seat. So you have to slow more than he does to avoid contact. Which means the car behind you has to slow even more. Cars in the back of the pack practically have to stop.

So, if you're in the middle of the pack, take the defensive line -- or attempt a pass on the outside. There's no need to take the optimal line because you won't be able to carry the extra entry speed anyway. Alternatively, if you won't be passed, back off a bit on the front straight so that you can carry as much speed as possible through turns 1-2 (or 3-4) and hopefully get a run on the car in front of you before the next corner.

This is all much easier said than done, of course. Once I'm actually out in traffic, my plan may go all to hell :)

BTW, what sort of lap times was everyone running there last night?

I think I'm going to build a MDF structure around the frame to improve stability and I'm going to change the board the pedals are mounted to to a thicker piece of MDF. It needs to be a bit stiffer.

Dabs, is that an OG ps3?
Btw. I like the look of abs over pvc, and you only need glue, no purple stuff. I think abs is more expensive though? Idk for sure though.

No, it's one of the last fatties. I do have an original, but it needs repair (which I've been too lazy to do).

Got some musicians huh? I used to play mostly ibanez. Got a black talmar acoustic. But after cutting off most of my fret hand index finger I kinda gave up on playing. Though I've been playing with the idea of a fiddle, mandolin or violin. Been really into irish and scottish folk music.

Nice axes. Reminds me of my buddy, I helped him score a Gibson ES 335 tobacco sunburst with a Bigsby tremolo many moons ago.

:lol: I once knew a guy who insisted that Les Paul was French for "The Paul". No amount of reasoning or research could convince him it was a guys name, haha.
 
Zero. I would just like to say that in real life, I can heel toe very well. And that in game, a. Theres no point, and b. Its not a good way to try and practice for real life. if you have g27 pedals, then even that sucks, at least compaired to my very real mazda3

Tony Iommi is missing more than just the end of one finger. He plays with little prosthetics on the damaged fingers.

In addition to the 2 Pauls, I also have an Epiphone strat copy, a frankenstein telecaster that I put together, a Epiphone Casino that has no finish on it, and a Washburn acoustic.

Heel/Toe is entirely based on feel. Not just mashing plastic pedals supported by springs. Rally is spot on. I learned it when I used to take my old 911 to track days. Rev matching for easy downshifting is useless in a game without the feel of a real transmission, clutch and brake. In the game you have no way of feeling the "snick" of your shifter placing the gear in the correct cog while blipping the throttle to match the new RPM of the vehicle to the gear you want to be in at the speed you want to be travelling after applying the brakes. Blah blah...don't waste your time doing it in a video game. You need real mechanical and hydraulic interfacing to do it.

I know I'm not invested in this thread, but I'm a snooper so here goes: I disagree with your theory about it not being a good way to practice for real life. After teaching myself to heel/toe in the game, I became able to execute a "perfect" heel toe in an MX5 cup car the first time I tried it in real life. It's not perfect in GT, but the muscle memory is the same. It's also good for teaching braking with both feet depending on the corner.
