Dinner? How about a track day at VIR?

VIRginia International Raceway is available for track rentals 7 days a week, 48 weeks out of the year in any number of course configurations. Track renters include car clubs, driving and riding schools, automotive OEM’s, tire manufacturers, race teams, advertising agencies, and media. All track renters must follow the rules and policies set forth in Exhibit A of their contract, a sample of which is found here.

They have Karting as well.

That's close enough for me to say "hell yes!"

Relieved to hear that you are feeling better kcheeb.

Don't worry about it dude, we all get tired/fed up sometimes.

I think we all know you take S.N.A.I.L. seriously:)

If you need breathing room for a while, take it:tup:

You deserve it:)

Second.

You put more work into this league than I put into racing irl. If you need the break take it.

I think that we all owe something to zero and kcheeb for making this incredible league, if it weren't for him and a few others, I bet alot of us would be playing other games.

A huge thanks for creating probably the most organized and fun league on GTPlanet. Keep up the good work zero and kcheeb, and take whatever breaks you need, you guys really do deserve it

Thank you, it's nice of you all to say and very nice to hear.

Thanks for the kind words! kcheeb and I take a lot of pride in S.N.A.I.L. and we care about it passionately. We put a lot of time and effort into the league (as do many others) so of course we want to see it continue to thrive. I think in a lot of ways it's a labor of love for many of us.

That being said, we could certainly use more help with certain aspects of the league. And while nobody "owes" us anything, we definitely appreciate those who give back to the league by contributing their time and effort to it. I chatted with kcheeb on Tuesday night and chatted with Exo last night for about an hour and half each and we've got some interesting ideas that we'll be rolling out shortly. In the meantime, if anyone wants help contribute to the league in ways other than just racing, please let us know! :)

As zer0 has said more than once, many hands make for light work. Looking forward to the new ideas.

This would be freakin' awesome, a RL S.N.A.I.L. track day! I could run a Kart around all day 👍 Now all we need is a date, hotel(s) to stay at and a bigass BBQ :D

Back in the days of GT1 and GT2 there was a forum called Granturismo.net that all of us frequented and we had regional GT parties all the time. We had several here in Florida. We'd go to someone's house and play all day or one guy's family owned a sports bar here in Tampa and we'd all play on the big screens.

Cudaman (winner of the 1st GT Academy) was just a snot nosed teenager at the time and he attended a couple of the ones held in his area.

It's great fun and good way to put a face to the name and have a good time.

Right about when the PS2 came out (2000-2001) I ended up moving into our new house and having kids etc. Didn't play console games again until late 2011 when I bought a PS3 and decided to play GT again.

Old guy alert...we used to send replays to each other by actually mailing our memory cards to each other to verify our best times until a device called a DexDrive came out which allowed us to save the replay files on the card to our computer and email them to each other...then save them from the computer to the memory card again and watch them.

Ahhh to be in the very first global GT time trials and competitions was such a blast. Look at what we made ;)

Lets keep this SNAIL track day idea going! I'd definitely be done for this.
BTW. welcome back Cheeb.

DexDrive! used that, and gamegenie.

I wish I had the time to do that sort of thing. A meet up with everyone would be sweet.

Would anyone be kind enough to give me some times to shoot for when I get home. I've been way too busy to get any runs at all with the new combos.

Tsukuba - 1.06.6 will put you out front
Gp/D - 1.35.9 is pretty good, there's more to be had
Moteggi - 1.55 is what I'm running, but I'm not broke in and there's WAY more room for improvement.

The only thing I'm afraid of with a snail track day is the walls are a lot less bouncy than they are in game... Then again most people aren't good (coughcrazy) enough to drive irl like they do in gt.

Man I'm already getting excited about this even being possible! If we aren't renting cars I'll drive my Trans am there with an extra set of rims/tires on the trailer, drive her (nearly) into the ground, and drive it home. Hell if this happens and I can make it I'll even pick up a snail or two if they want a ride, but if we end up renting cars pack light and grab a helmet because I'm riding my bike. I actually think renting cars would be best if they had enough. It would keep the real track day almost as spec as our almost fake ones :)

I think I'm getting ahead of myself.

I wonder if there would be a way to possibly set it up like a SNAIL event. do a morning running the karts as a round. so qualify, then 2 heats, then in the afternoon move on to that Atoms, and do the same.

All we would have to do is rent the track, the carts, get the schedule approved by the hmfic (head mother f....er in charge), and make sure all the snails are ready/have gear.

LMAO... i'm reading all these posts and my mind is already wondering :D :D :D
SNAIL EVENT LIVE FROM REAL WORLD??? AAAAAAAWWWWEEEEEEEEESSOOOOOOOOMEEE

We should make a national SNAIL event, preferibly in California so that I can go jk. Or we could have a massive Skype call with everyone there and just talk, cuz ik I'm not the only one that wants to see mr handlebars mustache

Nooooowwwweeeeeee Bowler..... Not oval! Track, breaking, throttle control, pass on the next break, real racing... yeaaaaahhhh

And considering the fact that this league hosts people from Texas to Canada, from Los Angeles to New York, the smarter thing to do was making it somewhere in the middle like... Toronto.... LOOOOOL joking! But yeah, something like Kansas or Missouri.

Oh yeah, because you don't have to do any of those things on a quarter mile oval. I can guarantee you wouldn't be able to master it in an afternoon and your arms would probably feel like they were ready to fall off by the time you ran 10 laps.

You guys got me thinking about this idea and here's a few possibilities of how to do it: 1. have one track rented out with some equipment and we all meet there. 2. we could rent a few tracks on the same day so we have one on the west coast, one on the east coast and one in central US all on the same day. 3. similar to 2 we find trackday groups at three tracks on the same days and meet up.

On the first idea I can tell you most places would charge at least a grand per person with minimal driving time and most likely in a lead follow type format. If we rented an indoor karting place it would be more affordable and we could have a bunch of races that way.

On the second idea, we'd have to be smart about it. For example in the LA area if you rent Streets of Willow it's much cheaper than trying to rent Cal speed or Buttonwillow. Biggest problem with that is having cars to use. There's a few places that have cars like spec miata's, Rx7s, Ledgends and old Toyota pro celebrity race cars that the rates might be affordable if we rent a few and share them. If we wanted to rent a kart track and karts I know some people that could hook that up somewhat cheaply.

On the third idea this is the cheapest way to do it because track day groups have it so it costs 150 per person to get on track for a day. Only problem is every one has to bring their own cars. I have a good friend that runs one of the biggest track day groups in CA that I could get to help with setting this up if needed.

Anyways if we get serious about doing this make sure you let me know because I work at a lot of the tracks and schools that do these types of events and can probably help in some way.

I think a day (or some hours) at an indoor karting facility would probably be the best bet in terms of affordability and ease of scheduling multiple locations. It's going to be damned hard to get a large enough group of people who can both afford to attend a track day and are able to schedule a single day to do so. We wouldn't have to worry about equipment and everyone would be on a roughly level platform.

The track day event would by far be more practical and the cheapest, but we wouldn't be allowed to actually race. You don't have to bring your own car, but it is easier to. If we do one in Kansas city I'm pretty tight with some of the guys from Heartland Park and it's a great place. Hotel right next door, tons of cheap food places, and one nice one! They used to have a thing called the heartland park driving experience where you could drive a spec Miata, some other mumbo jumbo, and they even had a few formula three cars! But I'm not sure if they still do that.

There is also Sadler's in Kansas City. HUGE indoor track with FAST carts. You can actually feel your cheeks flying off your face.

I know right now that this is all one big fantasy, but if we want a Kc meet up I'm the guy to talk to. I'm not good at arranging things, but I know the people that can help make it a great time.

I'm doing a 24 hour race at heartland park June 15/16 and can possibly persuade the track staff to put in a good word to the higher ups for us.

Also a friend of mine has a few track cars that he rents out and might cut us a deal. If we kiss up (and pay up) he has about 12-15 fully prepped Porsche 944 race cars that we might (big emphases on might) be able to use.

If this gets rolling we might have to make our own thread or Facebook group for the simplicity of arranging this and inviting everyone.

If you ever want to go to Sadler's I'm down. I've been there many times and it's always a blast. Definately a lot cheaper than the other options being mentioned as well.

I absolutely disagree with the "multi location" mode as the main idea here would be "us getting to meet eachother and party together" I love my buddy Chatva... i wanna be where he's going to be... you know what i mean?

I'm not opposed to multiple locations, mostly because it's costly and time consuming for a lot of people. I mean, VIR is hundreds, even thousands of miles for some people. That said, MI has a great kart track too, kart 2 kart. It was one of the spots that red bull used about 10 years ago when they had that competition to find a driver for f1. If anyone around the great lakes is interested I can get some info from them.
