Niagara's Weekly "What I Saw" Column
241222 Edition

We only had 7 drivers in D1. Sometimes that feels a little too light but I was never without somebody to race with. Looks like D2 had a decent size grid of 10 drivers.

Combo #1:
Here's our grid group shot. I voted this combo out at the end of the night but only for strategic reasons and with the understanding that with our current rules, this car was going to be a 1-N-Done. But it was my favorite combo of the night.

We've seen @Kgffy go after the deferred maintenance / rust-bucket / barn find, look before and he always a good look sporting it. I know he's abusing his tires in this picture but it looks like he's blown his engine or seriously burning oil if the smoke was a little darker.

Combo #2:
We've got @Worst_Driver , @Nicktune , @bublyman , @Buffalo_DRD and @hurbinator captured in this photo. Essentially a group shot of the Francophones currently in D1.

Chaos-Corner. I think everybody had at least one mistake here. The corner just kinda snuck up on you real quick and you better have your car relatively straight before hammering on the brakes.
SHARE_20241226_0246350.jpeg

@Kgffy shredding his tires again and providing another smoke show.
SHARE_20241226_0246560.jpeg

My fun in Combo #2 came with a lengthy battle with @hurbinator .
SHARE_20241226_0328090.jpeg

Combo #3:
I've been hoping for this Radical to go away for a few weeks now. But I acknowledge it provides for some decent racing.

I also take the time to offer my congrats to @Worst_Driver on his perfect night. He owes a of it on coming out on top of an epic battle with @bublyman in C3R1. It's actually worth it for you folks to go and check out. They've exchanged positions a few times but for the most part, @Worst_Driver was on @bublyman 's tail for several laps. @bublyman touched a little grass exiting T4 on the last lap that might have given @Worst_Driver an opening but he managed to retain his lead. In fact, @Worst_Driver only managed to pass @bublyman about 20 meters from the finish line to win by 0.080 seconds if memory serves me correctly.

And towards the back of the grid, I really enjoyed myself with @Dragonwhisky and @Kgffy . We each took turns leading our 3 car battle and each would make small errors coming out of Turn 4 which would allow for some white knuckle passing going through the esses. In this sequence, I had a great view of a beautiful pass executed by @Kgffy on @Dragonwhisky on Lapp #11.

That's how I saw the races last Sunday.

I also wish a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year (Bonne et heureuse année) to all Snails and their families.

Race night is tomorrow. Practice room will be open tonight approximately 930PM EST. We will run a short practice race at each track, using the rolling start procedure so that folks can get used to it.

I will update here when the room opens.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to participate in Friday's race because I work at 8 p.m. Have a good race and see you on Sunday!

Holiday Weekend Event
Friday 27 December 2024
Room Open 9PM EST

Race night is upon us! Room will be open for 9PM this evening, drivers' meeting at 9:15. See you there!
I've just started practicing, without ABS but using the clutch for the added immersion. The three cars are really closely matched, it has all the makings of an awesome night.

If you want to voice your feedback to @Dragonwhisky on the new tire formula that we ran this december here's the thread to discuss it.

Tonight was a blast! Thank you @Marcus Garvey for developing the idea and hosting. I'm looking forward to next series.
If you're around Sunday, you're in luck.

Don't put the Gordini away too soon! Although it isn't sticking around for next Sunday, it doesn't have go anywhere just yet. While it's still fresh, we'll take it on a world tour of a few tracks this Sunday night at normal Snail time, 930PM EST.

I'll make an updated post in the Holiday Event Thread. Comfort Hards, no ABS. Take it for a couple of laps at your favourite track, it's easy to drive and you can still full throttle while turning, even on CH. It'll go through Madgwick at Goodwood with no brakes. We'll take it to a few different tracks, and use the same manual double file start. No points, just some fun races sliding old cars around.

D2R2R2 Recap

I hope everybody enjoyed their Christmas. Here's the next part of my highlight reel from our final Sunday night league event of the year.

1000005432.jpg

Lap 1: We all managed well through the first few turns this time. Everybody is evenly spaced out going into this right hander, except for @CdnSweetTee, who's starting to put a gap in between herself and the pack.

1000005433.jpg

Lap 3: I bumped into @Mac1032763's left rear quarter panel while trying to overtake in the tunnel. Here's a picture of him using my right rear quarter panel to regain control on the way out. He was able to straighten up and even take back his spot before the next curve.

1000005434.jpg

@DublDee went for a little stroll in the opposite direction after hitting the wall just before the canyon. @CANOWORMS1 and @Oshawa-Joe are on their way to the front.

1000005435.jpg

@racingchamp30 and I were following Mac through the canyon when he lost traction and hit the barrier. Unfortunately, he backed into the path of @JamCar0ne afterwards and they had a major collision. Dub splits right through the aftermath of it all.

1000005436.jpg

Lap 5: Canoworms and Joe have made it to the front of the pack!

1000005437.jpg

Lap 7: Tee and Champ are in the midst of a battle that would last 3 or 4 laps.

1000005438.jpg

Lap 8: JamCarOne falling victim to Tracy Cove Tunnel. He wouldn't be the last one, either.

1000005439.jpg

Lap 9: Champ and Tee are still neck and neck and have alot of good clean racing action.

1000005440.jpg

Lap 11: Mac and Jamcar making some sparks in the tunnel.

1000005441.jpg

Lap 12: With @Oshawa-Joe taking 1st and @CANOWORMS1 in 2nd, the battle for 3rd would come down to this! If I remember correctly that's about a hundredth of a second lead Tee has there to make her 3rd place.

D2R3R1 Recap

The Radical would be our final combo of the year, and that will be the last we see of it for a while, I'm sure. It's a fun car but it's run it's course and a new year deserves a fresh start. Just so happens, we will be running 3 new cars for our first event of 2025.

1000005442.jpg

Lap 1: The group shot right before T1

1000005443.jpg

Lap 2: I bump the race leader @Oshawa-Joe in the braking zone. He manages well and keeps it on track through the first turn. This wouldn't be my last mistake of the race.

1000005444.jpg

After my contact with Joe, @CANOWORMS1 and @JamCar0ne have no problem getting by me in T1. I would get back in front of them, but JamCar is really putting the pressure on me after that.

1000005445.jpg

Lap 4: @racingchamp30 is making his move on the inside of the final turn here.

1000005446.jpg

Lap 5: @Mac1032763 in some high-speed drifting action that's on par for a Ken Block livery.

1000005447.jpg

Joe, myself, and JamCarOne in the final corner. 1st, 2nd and 3rd still running in a tight pack.

1000005449.jpg

Lap 9: JamCarOne checking the integrity of the tire barricade. This finally gave me some breathing room so I could focus on catching up to Joe.

1000005450.jpg

Lap 11: JamCar, Canoworms and Champ not far behind.

1000005453.jpg

Here's my 2nd mistake of the race, which leads to another mistake not long after. I had a good run up to the beginning of the esses and thought I could make a clean pass on Joe. However, I was wrong and just a few inches short of clearing his front bumper. The result was Joe getting slammed into the wall here, which I could hear pretty well in my VR headset. I didn't want to take the lead like that, so I tried to slow down after the final turn to let him by. That was my third and biggest mistake because he ended up crashing into me and then spun and hit the wall, putting him way behind. Sorry Joe! Not a proud moment for me.

1000005454.jpg

Lap 16: The final turn of the race and Canoworms is rounding the corner with Racingchamp just behind. Jamcar and I are on the right making our last sprint to the finish line. I had a lot of fun in this race, but it was a bittersweet victory for me after causing Joe so much trouble.

D2R3R2 Recap

Last race of the year! We wished each other luck and lined up one more time at the starting line.

1000005455.jpg

Lap 1: @Ropere leads the pack as we exit T3.

1000005456.jpg

Lap 2: @Oshawa-Joe has a big lead already, the entire middle of the pack is nose to tail.

1000005457.jpg

@JamCar0ne breaks away from the middle group to pursue Joe.

1000005458.jpg

Lap 3: @CANOWORMS1 and Ropere made contact on the last turn and both ran wide. Ropere gives on track concession immediately afterwards.

1000005459.jpg

Lap 4: @Mac1032763 and Canoworms are doing a little "rubbins racin" around turns 2 and 3. Niether would lose any speed here.

1000005460.jpg

I took a turn testing the integirty of the tire barricade and found out just how strong it was. @racingchamp30 moves up to 3rd place.

1000005461.jpg

Lap 6: @Oshawa-Joe and @JamCar0ne pulling away. I tried to get Champ and Canoworms in the frame too but they're too far away to see on the hill back there.

1000005462.jpg

Lap 9: Mac, Ropere and I are having a fun battle at the back of the field.

1000005463.jpg

Lap 10: Racingchamp runs a little wide in T1 and Canoworms claims 3rd place.

1000005464.jpg

Lap 12: The back of the pack is still close. We had many passes back and forth.

1000005465.jpg

Lap 13: Mac, Ropere and I are 3 wide and yet to even tap the brakes going into turn 1. We all made it without incident.

1000005467.jpg

Lap 15: I bump Ropere and that gives Mac the chance to pass me. Ropere keeps his composure and the lead in our little 3-way battle at the rear. Joe spins out after leading most of the race and Jamcar takes the lead. Mac would end up losing control as well at T4.

1000005469.jpg

Lap 16: @JamCar0ne takes the checkered flag in front of a full house in the bleachers! He kept Joe's mirror occupied up until the moment he lost control during lap 15.

@Akzl298, @nmcp1, @Dragonwhisky, @JLBowler, @llNovall, @zer05ive and everyone else that I'm missing, thank you for all your work behind the scenes on the BoD keeping this series up and running. It's always a blast and some of the best racing you can have in this game.

@Marcus Garvey it was a blast running the 50's holiday event last night and I'm looking forward to the Gordini race on Sunday.

@llNovall the Michelin Pilot Cup series has been great and the closest, fastest and largest racing competition I've ever participated in.

Thank you to all the SNAILs, too. The competition and comradery here is top notch! Everybody have a Happy New Year!

I have read the first post and would like to join.

I heard about SNAIL by searching GTPlanet for a GT7 league.

@Longball

Here's your official SNAIL Welcome Post!

Thanks for your interest!
Here's what you need to know (and do) in order to join SNAIL Racing League:

We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the SNAIL OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide. Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:

1. You start a conversation and add zer05ive, JLBowler, nmcp1,llNovall, Akzl298 & Dragonwhisky
as participants.

The conversation title should be "Request To Join".

2. SNAIL Administrators will respond with specific instructions on what you need to accomplish to join the SNAIL [Spec] Racing.

3. Place the following links (URLs) in the favorites (or bookmarks) in your web browser for quick reference. Please make every effort to read and understand the following links. Over the years a great deal of time and effort has gone into creating this league and we would like nothing more than to have you but we ask that you take the time and effort to do your homework. 99.9% of any question you may have about SNAIL can be found in the posts below.
4. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍

Again, the original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread.

During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.
Welcome to SNAIL

What an awesome event @Marcus Garvey put on last evening,
Lots of great racing and cool too see almost full grid of snails racing together,
Even when not in a battle the cars were soo fun too drive on cs.
Looking forward too more events like this especially when we can get both Div of snails In Same lobby too hang out.
Thank you folks and everyone else for coming out to race last night! We had a really good turnout, better than I expected! While still on Holiday break for Sunday night racing, I've got another fun event sliding old cars around. Though, this one is a little bit slower but a lot more forgiving. Change the oil in the Gordini, and come have fun!
