I attempted to do the practice at 7:30 but it was all D1 guys - theres zero point in me practicing on those tracks - i would just be alone by myself and I have been doing that without being in a room full of peope 20 seconds faster than me ....

Just from my past experience -

sori forgot to ad that

My alone lap times in no way reflect my abilities to race alongside other vehicles.

Per the 100 pages i had to read and agree too when I signed up to GTP it is my responsibility to maintain my line and never impede the progress of another vehicle or incident reports need to be filled out - I would spend more time filling out incident reports than I would racing. And unless the rules are ******** I disagree. The rules apply to some but it depends on who you are is my experience in life.

I believe there was a big controversy with regards to the racing boundries and some going beyond those boundries and it not being enforced - I am new and can pretty much figure I may have been penalized as a newbie? Not sure the lords of GTP would appreciate me running folks off the track if I actually tried to compete att his point in my residency here at gtp.

I understand and appreciate what your saying - but I'm definitely not comfortable enough to attempt a event without having the real world experience and practice and the resulting confidence from that.

Thank you for your reply and I appreciate your kindness Mr Rad - but I respectfully disagree.

Its all good - I will continue to build confidence and practice - we shall see where it ends up in time.

Thanks for all you do

Great night of racing again, as usual.
Thank you guys for coming, participation is staying strong and its good to see !

What a good looking car, to those who know my taste, this was my favorite combo of the lot. @JamCar0ne Great pick. I'll have a go at your challenge later today. Thanks for setting those up.

Moments before disaster, the car really didn't like going over the curb and it punished me by going into the wall.

@Buffalo_DRD looking good with his signature livery. It really suits well on cars from the 60's and 70's.

Battle for first place on the last lap at the last corner. @ErickGaToRR @Nicktune and myself. Speaking of @ErickGaToRR holy **** both races with that combo had me sweating. You were all over my rear bumper, I still don't know how I managed to hold you back for 7-8 laps. You clearly had the pace but man what a race both times !

This car and the '70 GTR weigh the same but are wildly different beasts.

@The_Antman_ specifically, and, in general, anyone else who wants to get better at GT. Make @Marcus Garvey your friend, coordinate with him and others and have fun. What he teaches will make you better, even if you don't realize he's teaching. I have personal empirical evidence.

Along the lines of reducing the anxiety some may have in regards to racing online, with other humans. That old saw, "There's no replacement for displacement." applies. Replace the word displacement with time spent. If your goal is to race against humans, the only way to conquer that anxiety is to do it. Lots of it. If your goal is to race in SNAIL, your focus is twofold.
  1. Keep the car on the track, however you have to do it.
    1. This means, in almost all cases, go slower. Yes I know, that's counter to "Racing". It'll come to you over the time spent.
      1. Time spent = Everything you do in GT7, watching replays and not just your own, counts. Driving against AI counts, although I'd "weight" that effort with much less value than driving with OIs.
        1. Study what you did, study what they did, remember differences. This can count for more than actual wheel time.
      2. Time spent = 10,000+ hours to be considered an expert. Some SNAILs exceed that 10K+hrs by an astronomical amount.
      3. Time spent = Innate talent can reduce the amount of time spent it takes to achieve any certain level of expertise.
      4. Expert is another word for former drip. ;)
  2. Don't hit anyone (which supersedes 1)
    1. If you have to, and can, drive it off the track to avoid hitting someone.
      1. Going slower will help avoid having to drive it off the track.
        1. Don't wait for brake lights to start your own braking.
        2. If there's a lane to give, give it.
          1. Give the lane you want them to have, on entrance and exit.
          2. Plan for it, execute that plan.
          3. Take your lumps (penalties) when the plan fails, and it will.
Finally, no one is being paid to race in SNAIL. No lives are on the line here. We're all just having fun under a rule set we all agree (mostly) to. While I can understand reticence to participate caused by nervousness and anxiety, did that stop you from having your first kiss? Get in there and do it. It's the only way.

@dragon Still waiting for that first kiss ...... You volunteer? 🤣 Thank you for the replying and explanation - the rules sound extremely strict and make new people scared enough to leave skid marks .....

Had to change twice reading them
LMAO. Your "first kiss" in SNAIL is all on you. Pretend yer wrestlin' gators? You folks down there in FL do that on a regular basis I hear. Mebbe' that's loozyanna I'm thinkin' of.

@The_Antman_
My two cents...
I know where you're coming from. I had some anxieties when I joined the group in January of 2024. I was mortified at the thought of making mistakes and causing racing incidents.

The times you quoted lapping by yourself are quite good. Now it's the race-craft component you require and you can only get that by racing human. But the one thing I do know, is that you've found the right group to help you through that.

My first few Sunday's with the group, I couldn't even see the other drivers in the race by mid-race. But as the weeks went by, I got to know the Snails and found my place within them. I just checked the stats page now, I've got 272 races as a Snail and exactly 1 fluke win to show for it. And I'm completely at peace with that. That's not why I'm here.

The Thursday practices would be a good place for you to start. Usually mic's are on and the racing is quite light. Save the replays for yourself to check where other folks are changing gears, taking specific corners etc...

I've monitored what this group has been doing for months prior to joining them. And in a few short weeks I was kicking myself for not joining them sooner. You might have similar thoughts a few weeks from now.

In short, jump in, the waters fine.

radliff -what? they call us gator humpers? I figured that was just me because of my ex-wife ........ had no idea

Buffalo - thanks for the encouragement- the thing for me is I need side by side and I hate to think I would knock someone out of a point standings due to my lack of experience - I thought best to do my homework and improve before affecting someone elses dream ..... I'm a dream maker not a dream taker🤣

dragon or draggin bumpers? Appreciate evwrything u said and thank u.

SCREW it I'm bangin bumpers bitches LETS GOOOOOOO 🤣

Ant out

They don't call us gator humpers for nothin

Don't forget about @JamCar0ne's Donkey Kong Challenge! The leaderboard is looking pretty lonely on my screen. Somebody come beat JamCar because I don't think I can, lol! I've got a shell for anybody who can top his time!

After 14 attempts I somehow got it. Up until the 14th try I was struggling to break your record and come in 1st lol

Lol, do you mean like Mario Kart?? That might come in handy but I think it'd be against the rules...

Shells are SNAIL currency. You earn them by completing duties, winning bets, beating challenges such as the Donkey Kong Challenge, etc... They can be used to barter and trade within the community here. Have something race related or sim rig-like sitting around the house you want to get rid of? Offer it up on here for shells. The marketplace is a little slow ATM but if you scroll through the history you can see there was plenty of transactions in the early days.

Ah ok that's cool, I'll check it out. Thanks for the breakdown.

Ya it would be nice if polyphony implemented some shells and banana peals n such.. they even have the bouncing cars physics already. At least as an outlet for the players that would rather do pit maneuvers than gentlemanly racing, make it a seperate mode n keep them out of the daily race lobbies lol

Are you using controller or wheel? Using any of the visual assists for race line, and braking?

I was strictly a single player mode person in every GT Series, up until GT7. I started racing in Daily Races and Manu. Cups to improve my rating and skill. I wasn't great to start, either. I had the same fear as you about hitting others on the track, and not being able to catch back up. The only way I could get better in traffic was by doing online races.

Learn how your car handles, and learn your tracks, first. You dont have to learn every single track unless you want the details. Once you understand some of the techincal cars and tracks, your knowledge will help you learn others. Especially braking points. Once you get a feel for the car, then practice with others. Reason being that you're going to have to share the road with others that may be traveling in your optimum lines that you may have practiced with. You have to know how to compensate for that when going around corners by braking a bit more, taking an odd line, but still exiting the corner with enough speed to keep up. This is where I used to fall short, because I wanted to avoid collisions. It caused me to go off road in many occasions, because I couldn't adjust.

I'd like to share my customer service experience with Trak Racer. Picked up one of their rigs almost a year ago.

Finally decided to install the shifter mount parts and realized I was missing 3 mounting brackets and some hardware. Sent them an email and received the replacement parts in 5 days, including the weekend. No hassle and they apologized for the inconvenience.

Still waiting on a Logitech G Pro H pattern shifter so for now its a great place to put my phone.

The round that received the most elimination votes was:
Round 1 - Nissan Skyline Hard Top 2000GT-R (KPGC10) '70 (CS) at Dragontrail International Raceway Seaside Reverse - S04 Sunset (7 laps)
Therefore, the entire combo has been dropped from next week's line-up. @Nicktune wins Prize A, and gets to choose an entirely new car and track combo to replace it.

The round that received the second most elimination votes was:
Round 2 - Alfa Romeo 4C '14 (CS) at Sardegna - Road Track Layout A - S01 Early Morning (8 laps)
This means either the car or track will be replaced for next week's line-up. @racingchamp30 is the Prize B winner and they have the option to freeze the car or the track, or they can give that option to the Prize C winner. If they give the freeze away, they get to decide what car or track replaces the part of the combo that is left unfrozen by the Prize C winner.

Prize C goes to @bublyman - they get whichever option the Prize B winner does not select.

Preliminary prize winners, please don't announce your prize selection until all incident reports have been filed and it's confirmed you don't have any penalties.
  • It is recommended you visit SNAIL combo history, along with other data on our car and track history, to review how many times we've raced each car and/or track.
  • Please remember, originality is always appreciated. Although not required, picking cars and tracks we've never raced is a plus.
  • What's more important is, you thoroughly test any combo you are considering, before making it your official selection.
    • For example, any car you select must not hit its rev limiter, either hard1 or soft2, at any point during a race, even in the draft.

IMPORTANT:
  • When posting your Prize A or Prize B selection, please list the complete in-game name of the car and/or track you are selecting.
    • For example, if you want to choose the Integra Type R as your car selection, post "Honda Integra Type R (DC2) '98".
    • If you want to select Monza for your track, post "Autodromo Nazionale Monza".
    • Being specific helps us to update the lineup accurately and also helps avoid any confusion among the drivers.
  • Please be sure to list the HP and Weight (LBS) of any car you select.
  • For track selections, include the Preset Weather and the Time of the Day (e.g.: S01 Afternoon) or it will be set to default.
    • Available settings can be found under Time/Weather Settings, when creating an online Lobby, after selecting your track.

Car Selection Guidelines
See Section 3 of the SNAIL OLR, Policies and Guidelines.

Track Selection Guidelines
See Section 3.1 of the SNAIL OLR, Policies and Guidelines
.

1Hitting the "hard" limit causes the RPMs to "bounce" and reduces torque and speed.
2Hitting the "soft" limit ceases all acceleration potential. Meaning, you're not going to go any faster.

Desperately needing help / mentor

I am a newbie and an old man who for some moronic reason thought I could compete with newbies like me. But I am having issues that are preventing me from being able to race.

I have copied the snail lobbies and worked quite hard to increase my Times.

Lexus RC at St Crioux fastest time 1.59.713 and ten lap times posted below.

Serdegna Alpha Romeo 4c - 2.04.37 fastest lap - ten laps below

Dragon Reverse - Nissan bouncing piece of crap - Way to embarrased to show my times.

My issues is I can practice hot laps til the cows come home and I can never get better at racing and hot lapping is only prep work for racing.

I went into 4 diff lobbies racing 16 races all BOP and came in last place every race- and its worse because I wasnt even close to another car for 16 races.

I cannot stand the thought of hitting someone and back off way to much at the first corner to never see the pack again - I just cannot seem to get used to being and racing anywhere close to another car.

It has taken me countless hours to learn these cars and tracks for the 3 races. I'm old and slow.

Looking for anyone willing to do some type of practice where u lead and i try to pass and I lead you try to pass - and if one of us gets to far ahead slow down and wait for the slow guy - even better fighting with multiple cars

I am having a problem finding another racer to improve with and wonder if its possible to try this.

Look forward to racing with all of you at some point - I'm just not there yet - with the guidelines of No Touch racing and the penalty system I am in need of desperate help to get comfotable with another car or pack near me - so far I cant even find another car or pack after the first 30 seconds of the race.

Willing to put in the work if anyone is willing to help an old man find his walker 🤣

again - thanks to all that work so hard making this site and racing possible.

I have made a lot of lobbies to practice and have not had anyone join yet - i make them FRIENDS only usually because It's a freaking zoo of people that don't care to race clean -

Feel free to send a friend request and jump in if you see my lobby

Slow Ant
While your age puts you in the top percentiles for that category, I think I still hold the record as I turn 71 in a couple of weeks. I think you and I ended up lapping together a few days ago and I am more than willing to do it again, just message me and we can set up a time. I'm retired so pretty flexible.

If your lap times are decent then transitioning to traffic has a good start and the only way to do that is to get into traffic. @Marcus Garvey is a great teacher and perhaps the most knowledgeable person I've encountered when it comes to how a car reacts, but I can get overwhelmed by the amount of details involved. We all make mistakes, even F1 drivers, and Snailians are pretty understanding. Concession (waiting for the offended party to get ahead) and an apology is good. One tip I was given: When following a car into a corner let off the gas just prior to your braking point, this makes your braking much more effective. And when in close quarters stay in your lane, giving room for the other car(s) on entry and/or exit. This means you can't take the perfect racing line and must brake and accelerate accordingly.

Replays of better drivers are a great way to get an idea of how it's. I try to find drivers that have a similar style to me and watch what and where they do things; line, braking point, gears. Remember there is a tiny lag between deciding to brake and stepping on the brakes, so I observe in the replay 'when' brakes are applied and then find a point a bit further back to use as a braking point.

A few years ago I was the only non-D1 driver to attend Thursday practices. I was only there for the replays to study before Sunday racing. I did a lot of bailing on the first lap of a reverse grid start; my hint for that is get a good start and drive off the first corner. :D

Yes that was me and the first back and forth action I've had - we only did a few laps i think (3-4) and I was definitely holding my own against you....... that was the closest racing and mane the best real world back and forth I've had - we were closely matched but I was nailing it and maybe you were having an off night - been looking for u online ever since and cant seem to find you. That was with the lexus rc430 - my only good track-

thank u for the reply and look forward to rubbing paint with you again soon.

Donkey Kong Challenge 2510

CE Dragon Trail - Gardens
Event: 1 Lap Attack
Car: RCZ GR.4
Track: Dragon Trail - Gardens

Level 1: 1:52.000
Level 2: 1:43.850
Level 3: 1:41.850
Level 4: 1:40.500

Bonus $shells

What level are you?
To spice it up a bit, there is 1 $hell for anyone who gets in the top 10 overall and an additional $hell for reaching the top spot!

Open to all SNAIL members (past and present)

Since the last DK challenge appeared to be a bit too much chili pepper for some, going to dial it back a bit. This one is actually a Cafe menu, so you may have completed it when you got the game. But since PD resets the leaderboards after major physic updates, the leaderboards are empty once again.

This is a café menu book? Can't seem to find it or remember this one.

It takes me a couple of hours but a finally made a choice for the Prize C.

The Alfa goes to Grand Valley - South
S03 - Afternoon
MDLT around 1:22.000
This probably gave us 13 laps of pack racing action. The downhill section leading to the sharp left hairpin is a total blast, you'll see!

I got a feeling that our @Worst_Driver friend is gonna love this one...

So that's my pick @Dragonwhisky. It's now time for you to hit the track and give it a go!

It's a Circuit Experience, found in the World Circuits/Europe/Dragontrail/ then Circuit Experience is in the bottom row. They're a good way to make some major credits and learn the tracks if you haven't done them yet.

Looks like we have a few challengers already. Congratulations to @Baby On Board and @bublyman for conquering @JamCar0ne in last week's Challenge. Shells are coming your way soon. Anybody not on my friend's list and therefore not on my leaderboard let me know and I'll add you.

Not a fan of street cars or comfort tires - Last week was my first attempt as I always avoid these races -

But i really enjoyed last weeks frustration and learning - and like everyone here said - just do it -

I did and I actually like it ...... don't tell anyone though....

Super Fun selection Bubbly !!! That combo is a blast!!!!

Really well done sir

Division 2 had some technical difficulties during Round 1 Race 2 this past Sunday. Each person was able to finish the race, yet we were all stuck at the results page at the end with no way to advance to the next screen. Therefore, we weren't able to save gap, fast lap or replay data. We hadn't lost internet connection, we could still talk to each other over the voice chat, and the Playstation system hadn't frozen either. It was just an error in the GT7 application that was affecting the entire group. I just want to put this up here as an instruction for a way to retain all data in the future if it were to happen again. Everyone in the group will need to do the following.

First off, don't exit out of the game right away. Instead press the capture/share button on your controller and select Save Recent Gameplay as shown below. This may look different on PS4 but I believe it's still possible. If you exit the game before doing this, you will not be able to save any gameplay past the point of when you open it back up so make sure not to exit.
Screenshot 2025-04-15 184352.png

Then select Last 30 minutes. This will save a replay of what was on your screen over the last 30 minutes and from that we can pull your fastest lap and gap time that was posted up at the frozen results screen at the end. Also, a screenshot of the results page where it freezes will work for the gap time, but we still need the replay for the fastest lap time. You may even capture somebody else's gap times that might not have followed these steps and will capture the overall fastest lap of the race. Unless of course you're on VR like I was when this happened. I watched the screen each time I crossed the finish line to determine which best lap time was my fastest of the race.
Screenshot 2025-04-15 184418.png

These replays would possibly even help out if there were an incident report needing to be filed during that race. At least it would be better than nothing, in my opinion. Hopefully it was a fluke and we won't have to deal with it ever again. Thanks for your time everyone and D2 drivers please check the D2 thread to see if you can help fill in any of the blanks in our lost data.
