1.06 wasn't too bad, maybe for the wrong reasons.

The feeling when you get into really close, clean racing for top positions is amazing though. You sit right on a guys bumper, brake early and get a better exit, then he give you room for the pass. You go 2 wide into corners, but inside holds inside line and allows enough room outside for the other car. This goes back and forth for a few laps and it is pretty intense and ultimately satisfying.

When you get the people who aren't able to do this effectively and that is where you get the issues when they try to and aren't aware of what is around them.

I’m constantly amazed at how many positions I can gain just by letting some moron pass me. The way I see it, either he’s truly faster than me, or he’s overdriving. 9/10 times he’s an idiot and wrecks the next guy ahead. I gain 2 positions just by having foresight.
That's an amazing statistic. 90% of everyone who passes you is a moron and an idiot. Doesn't say much about the people playing this game does it?

The penalties are really strange now, i was side by side with another car in a corner. Some cars ahead crash and i see a yellow flag flickering for a second and i get a penalty for overtaking. It would be better if they give a couple of seconds to give the position back, especially when people are racing side by side and it is not clear who is in front. Also when overtaking on the straight a lot of people are pushing you in to the grass so you get a penalty. Why cant they just look at the lines of the car and penalize the car who changes lines?

I think you are missing our point. Your suggestion works if the car is on pace, but if they are off then that just screws you both.

What you initially described was a situation whereby both of you work together to catch up the other car. i.e the opponent catch onto your tail and you work together. However what your actually implying is you just want the opponent to let you through which are two entirely different things.

Realistically he/she isn't going to catch onto your tail and suddenly drive quicker with you right in front of him once he lets you past and then go faster than he could when he had no one in front of him.

91 win trophy doesn't help things either.

Jerome

Probably a lot harder for the folks who aren't ace qualifiers unfortunately because some people have great race pace/consistency but aren't so good with the whole flying lap tail on fire business which means they start lower down the pack and have to deal with lots of morons.

I specifically said coming up on a racer where I am the quicker one.

90% of my overtakes have been from just applying pressure of throwing a dummy and having the defender miss the brakes. So many rookie racers makes it easy.

You will also find that a vast majority of people are braking late into the corner thinking that it will make them faster. Follow the racing line brake early and out drag them with a much faster exit speed

yeah i get that, but i don't get how you can define it as working together if he isn't catching the other car in front of him? If he isn't catching and he merely lets you through he is then one place worse off by letting you through ?

Thus to me your not wanting to work together, you just want him to let you through because your quicker.

In motorsport, and this is quite common to see, working together tends to be seen where two faster cars agree not to battle each other for a while to concentrate on both catching the car in front but i sense from your original comment that what you initially wrote probably isn't how you meant it to come across.

What if the driver doesn't know optimal racing line, what if his car can benefit from a tow because if being underpowered? I've been a beneficiary of these scenarios and know exactly how to take advantage. Early in race scenario is different from late race , I could make assumptions you're an advocate of blocking.

Er not entirely sure how you draw conclusions of blocking just from that so i'm not entirely sure why your going on the defensive now.

Your example here is not the best. Your opponent is not going to get a tow around an entire lap. More to the point your asking your opponent to let you through and then remain right up your backside to be within tow range and thus risk punting you out which presumably is not what you want either?

I think its fairly clear your interpretation of working together is not actually what is classed as working together. Merely you wanting a slower car to let you through so you are not caught adrift from other cars in front.

What if the driver doesn't know optimal racing line,

Then with your vastly superior knowledge of optimal racing lines and speed you should easily legally and without contact be able to pass the uneducated slower driver ahead of you and not lose time to the leaders.

Not if he starts to fight with me . You guys have a narrow view. Don't imply I'm saying something I hadn't. I 've learned "better" lines by shadowing other people. Sometimes the "best" line isnt always as expected.

Simply making assumptions about your reasoning by fixating instead of broadening my scope as you are. Let's just agree to disagree, this is going no where.

i'm just putting this out there. I defy any person who laps not using reasonable racing lines to be ahead of someone who does. In which case this would suggest that either you made a mistake and ended up near the back or didn't qualify and are behind slower people who did?

I don't really get what your point is? Are you suggesting that people should let you through so they can learn your race craft in a race? For all you know they may be wanting to learn how to defend? It's a console game. I think your expectation bar is set unreasonably high tbh.

Some people treat it as a console game and some treat a bit more seriously, when those folks get together bad things happen. Like getting punted and falling back, another reason you forgot to include in your narrow view of why one may need to catch back up with the pack. But frankly it doesnt matter how they end up where they are. Why should it? My point was lost many explanations ago of my original comment which was fairly straight forward. Now we're just latching on to every rebutal losing sight of the original statement. So lets let agree to let this die a swift death.

You need to remember and not lose sight of the fact there are many people on here of various degrees of ability and a large number of people using controllers. Things will not be perfect. To some, winning is everything, to others, just battling others is part of the fun.

You just have to take the rough with the smooth and just enjoy it for what it is. On the whole, So far, the driving standards IMO have been better than i would expect for a console game.

This we agree on. Im enjoying the game very much. Knowing the different types is part of the experience, and I must admit I'm terrified of some controller users, usually it's the ones you can visually tell are using a controller.

The only thing that concerns me that i didn't realize until recently is that one of the views does not have a rear mirror so people potentially have no idea if someone is right behind them unless they make the effort to look.

I drive cockpit and stopped driving the lambo because of this. I have sinced learned to rely on radar , but still like to have an idea of what's going on being me before I need it.

I use the cockpit view too. Agree the radar function is a good indicator. I don't feel comfortable to totally rely on it enough yet and battle side by side through a corner though. I tend to just use it as a way of thinking that they are probably far enough inside me so i will just concede the corner to them and tuck in behind.

Yep that's how I use it as well.

The biggest complaint I have with the latest update seems to be the inconsistencies with the grip model of the tires. Yesterday in the GR4 race at Dragon Trail I was able to turn traction control off and improve my lap time by a fair amount and the car felt more under control. Really more of a joy to drive and it was fairly easy without traffic being a factor to consistently turn laps within a few tenths of each other.

Today with the same GR4 car on Suzuka the car actually feels less predictable and sliding around even more than prior to the latest update and my lap times are slower as well. This is still running with TCS 1, with no TCS employed you can spin out (RWD car) just about anywhere you are applying more throttle, just a crapshoot stepping on the gas.

I realize different tracks have different grip levels but I have a lot of laps around Suzuka in this car and now every time I start the game I feel that the car drives different with grip levels and stability whatever the game seems to decide is good for that day.

I have really enjoyed the game up until now but the inconsistencies and needing to start over learning where cars limits are on every track being better on some and acting totally the opposite on others will be something that will make me walk away and quit playing the game.

I do not mind improvements but they need to be the same, if the tires grip improved at location A then the tires grip should improve at location B as well.

I'm noticing inconsistency in the grip levels too. Dragon tail and Interlagos my Gr3 car felt improved grip after 1.06 and my times improved. But yesterday's Nurburging GP FIA GT Manufacturers felt like less grip and my times remain the same as pre 1.06. strange, driving on this track i miss pre 1.06 lol it felt must easier to be consistent using tcs 2 and to be smooth with steering and braking. I saw improved times everywhere, but not on this track. Road cars feel better on 1.06, but after driving last night's nurburging gp in gr3 i felt it gripped like pre 1.06 and now the handling on corner exit was much more touchy with the rear wanting to step out, this time tcs 0 as tcs2 is slower in 1.06. Maybe it is the tcs changes negating the times here, but i felt the improved grip on other tracks at brands hatch, Dragon trail, or Interlagos.

I use the running order display at top left of the screen. It shows the time gap to the driver ahead and behind - also useful for keeping check on whether they’re gaining on me or I’m pulling away. I also use right stick to look behind. If the driver behind is clearly quicker than me I let them through.
