1/4 Mile Transmission Guide for Dummies(Illustrated)

I'll gold all 3, I did it before so I shouldn't have any problem with it again.

That's what mine said, and prompted me to do a file system restore. It wouldn't give me the option to deny it. After it reached 100%, screen went blank and system wouldn't reset. Then endless cycle after forced restart. I tried every other option in secret menu but they all froze the system. Complete wipe was the only way to fix it.
Thanks for letting me know because that's happened 10+ times to my ps3 already I'm backing it up right now.

Considering an update on this soon, but not sure exactly which powertrain to add. Would you guys prefer Rear-Engine'd RWD, Low horsepower Mid-engine, or High horsepower Mid-engine?

OK Danny we get it, nice thread god!.... LOL, jk

Since no one replied I think maybe a high HP Mid-engine would be cool Shake:tup:

If I don't get any other recommendations, I'll do that. I'm trying to stay away from the same powertrains I tuned for the GT5 guide, so I'm looking at high horsepower FR, low or high horsepower RR, or low horsepower MR.

Or you can give an FF a try for those that will soon be asking for them.

I'll consider that. It's definitely something I don't tune often, so it will be refreshing to test & tune online.
It is refreshing towards the last year of GT5 I focus on tuning other drivetrains and since I started to tune FF again I felt at home, it was awesome to see that my quick (sloppy) tune did online for the first time a couple weeks back.

Props to you for the top speed equation you had posted, I used it and it was pretty acurate +/- with my GTR, guess what I'm gonna keep using.

I think a suspension tuning guide should be added. Although it has nothing to do with the transmission i figured i would put it here because you @master_shake seem to have a fair amount of drag racing tuning knowledge. I have been having trouble tuning my suspension i can't seem to improve the launch or pull no matter what i do. Even a simple tuning guide would help. Thanks

This is a transmission guide. If it were a suspension guide, it would be called a suspension guide or complete tuning guide. If someone else were to make a suspension guide, as Dr Slump did for GT5, I would have no issues with that. If no one does, I will entertain the thought of adding a suspension section if the demand is high for it. Honestly though, suspension is not as critical of a factor in tuning as much as the transmission - torque distribution for AWD aside.

Another topic that should be good to cover is when to use other types of gearboxes. 112mph gearbox vs 124mph gearbox vs 136mph gearbox...etc.
I assume you mean using different top speed flips instead of using the minimum top speed? In that case, the only time I do that is for low horsepower cars, but even then it is a very rare occurance. If you were to explain your reason for doing it, on here or in a PM for tuning privacy, I could add it to the guide and give you credit for the method.

WOW, this is pretty in depth for such an easy thing to do. (Simple flipped base tune)
It was meant to be in-depth for newbies in the drag world, as well as those just lacking knowledge of good flipping & gear spacing techniques. As far as the flipping, I learned how to do it myself in GT5 since no one told me, but it took several cars to realize that lowest top speed was best for RWD.

I'd give you a tip about your last sentence. But then I'd shoot myself in the foot. If it works for you, then that's all that matters.

As I said, GT5. GT6 is still a work in progress and many things are to be discovered, but still haven't found any RWD that run faster with higher top speed flips. Lower horsepower might, but I tend to stay in the 300hp or higher range. AWD is something all entirely different.

You are correct, most rwds are fastest with a low speed gearbox. Higher flips are needed on low hp awd cars. But this is much more common in 3k, where it does apply to many rwd cars 👍

HIIII!!! Just thought I'd say this Thread needs a Sticky!!!!!
