1.58 downloading now?

Propably because it is deeply embedded into the code and cant be changed easily without breaking other parts, or they have a different opinion on whether this works as intended.
As there is an easy workaround (for all those who know), it also likely has a very low priority on the tables of things to do during the next update cycle.

My PS4 has just started downloading 1.58 and is saying it's a c.110 GB update that's set to take c. 4 hours to download, not the c.300 MB advised by Sony. Anyone any ideas what might be going on here?

Cancel it, then manually check for updates.

Thanks for the advice. However in the end I let it run its course. What seemed to be happening was that it required a PS4 system update and the GT7 1.57 update prior to downloading 1.58 (although it was saying it was downloading 1.58 per the screenshot). However what is puzzling is that my disk storage doesn't seem to be any bigger now than it was before the updates, despite the stated size

PS4 GT7 updates are brutal, they easily take an hour to "install". Bloatware.

It's nothing to do with GT7. The PS4 is an antiquated device, it's like trying to run modern apps on a iPhone 5.
