Well, it's like with any other collectibles. Market value. $50 indeed is steep for such casting, but before Japan Booster, I used to see them for probably something like $80+? So I bought one. I don't see myself buying the other colors though. Like you said, so much money for such a casting.They are not worth $50 to me, so I'll pass. Just strange how they are so much more expensive than everything else.
Edit: I mentioned the big M2 I picked up at Walmart today. I can't take a pic of it tonight, so here is the stock photo:

It sat at the store for weeks. Shame on the local collectors passing on this fine piece for so long. It's gonna take too much room, but I'm glad to have it in my collection.
Edit2: @R1600Turbo - I checked this thing out for so long, looking for any imperfections, or parts coming off of it. My only other transporter had rear gate hinges popped off.
