100 hours later, GTSport has become my favorite Gran Turismo.

I didn't say GT Sport is unpopular, I said Sport Mode is. Gran Turismo will always be popular regardless of PD's decisions, but time is giving proof that Sport Mode was a bad decision, since less than 10% of the player base has really got into it. What will it mean to the future of the franchise, nobody knows.

You should check out the percentages for GTS's trophies. There's an alarming number of people that barely use the game for driving or buying cars...

Wasn’t going to buy this game at all as soon as I heard it wasn’t a full GT as such. Tried the demo and instantly hooked played it everyday almost since release!!

Could it do with more tracks yes, but personally like the fact we havent got too many as it’s given me chance to properly practice them rather than being overwhelmed. Don’t miss the GT elements of the game, barely touched GT league as it’s far too easy and just not fun IMO.

Sport mode on the other hand is great, first proper online racing really for me and loving it!

The gt leagues are fun in pro and endurance leagues and you can create very good custom races! (Endurance & lap races) :)

I love the game, best physics, graphics, and online functionality - by far -.... I just miss proper tuning (body customization, suspension, exhaists etc). I feel like the focus on hyper cars and race cars side tracked things a bit. Those of us that love driving cars the average person can actually own have been a bit left out. There has been great progress with the car catalog via the free updates that have been happening. Getting the supra's, rx7's, skylines, m3 has shown some real potential for them to fill out the roster. But the fact that the "tuning" options for those stock cars is simply more power and a racing transmission just isn't as satisfying as kitting them out with custom exhausts, suspensions, hoods, wings, whatever. Which is a shame, considering how great the livery editor is.

For me to claim this is my favorite GT would require a lot more street cars and proper tuning options.

Yeah that FM7 tag was a brain fart on my behalf (previous Forzas and GT6 were the ones). There still is the existence of lootcrates IIRC which I also think should be gone from $60 games. That's a debate for another time though.

I'd also like to see more races and more experimentation. The E30 race spec race was interesting and would love nulti class stuff

There seems to be a misconception with even that too. The only thing that those hold exclusively are mods to handicap yourself, or the game, and driver gear.

The fact that 76% of folks have not even tried sport mode speaks nothing to it's quality. If anything, it says those folks are happy with offline single player play, private rooms, or photomode (or like many games, have bought it but not had time to play or are into other games right now).
As far as the criticism of the poster who said he tried the beta and demo and decided not to buy, you can't say his opinion isn't valid because he didn't invest "enough" time, or that he "didn't really play". On the other hand, the poster seems to have missed the point sems4 was making in that he didn't think he would like it that much at first and now after X hours he's had a change of heart.
So in my mind, the point that isn't being touched here is that sems4 (and others who posted similar to him) is possibly pointing out that for some folks who dismissed the game at first as garbage or unenjoyable may be wrestling with past expectations and indoctrination (for a lack of better word) with past GT formats, and that given more time one may be able to move past that and come to appreciate it for what it is. This type of thing occurs in all forms of media. Movie and TV series, bands/music, books/authors. Not saying that it will definitely happen or that rejection to change is somehow wrong (everyone must make their own choices of what to invest time and energy in), just be aware (by listening to others experiences like sems4) that initial opinions can be misleading or coloured by lots of things going on at the moment and sometimes it may be worth a second look.
I have had this happen countless times with various media where after coming back to them much later I find that I actually enjoyed them.

Anyway, that's my dollar and change.

Have a great weekend y'all.

PS This thread has been enloyable to read as it lacks the usual devolving into hyperbole and attacking I am use to seeing when it comes to opinions of GT games. In my mind, good discussions contain honesty and disagreement while remaining thoughtful and respectful.

The only issue I'm seeing, is that in order for someone to give that second chance, they'd have to put down that $60 that they initially didn't find worth it. If it still doesn't work out in the end, then that person would be at even more of a loss.

I'm in the boat of not being initially impressed, but got more interested as time goes on. Because I'm now liking what I'm seeing, I've been watching the market, hoping a sale pops up for a PS4 PRO. If I dont see one soon I'll just bite the bullet it and buy it full priced.

DLC.

The modern AAA development cycle is nothing like it was 10 years ago.
You surely must have been impressed by the game's visuals?
That isn't easy.
They've clearly done a lot of work on this title, we'd still be waiting for release if you had it your way.
Of course more tracks & cars would be nice but with modern internet speeds you can continue development and content releases years after launch, so they will keep coming so long as the players remain (no season pass! xD)

For a series that has toted the slogan "Ultimate driving simulator", it would be nice to have more of a selection to compliment that. I didn't pay for the ultimate visuals simulator.. This GT is 3 steps forward and 2 steps back.

Regardless of anything else, the track selection is almost a disgrace, and in my opinion, is a lack of effort on the team at PD.. There's no excuses for it. Especially the lack of fictional tracks which require no traveling with a team of people to take photos and scan the track etc, etc.

However i think they have a lot of content ready to go, a lot that could've been in the game from the start. But they hold it back and sprinkle it on you here and there to keep people coming back or playing the game in general..
