I've spent way too much time trying to figure this out. @BKGlover, was I correct with this?

It's a 4 door sedan that wasn't offered with a V8 made by a defunct Chrysler company between 1950 and 1985 (production wasn't necessarily stopped by '85, but it wasn't started after then). It isn't a Plymouth, Desoto, Imperial, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Eagle, Fargo, Chalmers, Valiant, or Maxwell. It also hasn't won more than two major racing championships, so there most likely (but not certainly) wasn't even a racing version of the vehicle.

Given that it is American and not European by questions 1 and 2, it cannot be one of the discontinued Rootes marques so that means not a Talbot, Sunbeam, Singer, Hillman nor Simca.

Given that it also isn't a Plymouth, DeSoto, Imperial, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Eagle, Fargo, Chalmers, Valiant, or Maxwell I think it can only be one other marque, whose production assets were sold to Chrysler in the 1940s. But I don't know exactly how much Chrysler 'owned' this company.

Ahhh...dammit. If only the others had committed to an answer.

The floor is yours.

But when Chrysler took over AMC in '87, the Eagle only had sedan and wagon. And when Chrysler took over production in '88 they only had the wagon, it was under the Eagle brand.
So AMC Eagle under Chrysler was never made before 1985 and never had a convertible version.

Hold up...what?

3. Is it a sedan?
From MY 1980-1987, yes. Available at one point in either 2 or 4 doors.

7. Was it first produced before 1985?
First built in 1979 for the 1980 MY.

9. Was the manufacturer owned by Chrysler?
It was bought and shut down, giving Chrysler the Jeep brand but also some Renaults from the AMC deal, and the Eagle production. They ran the Eagle Wagon for the '88 MY, but changed nothing, not even the paperwork.

18. Was there a convertible version?
The 2-door version I know had an option. It was called the 'Sundancer' conversion, cars were sent to another company to be done, but it was an option from AMC.

..I feel extremely stupid for not pressing the Post button, I legitimately - with a sizeable amount of internet assistance because that's my knowledge of cars that fit the given criteria - had it written down as AMC Eagle.

Oh well, life lesson = learned.
