20 million credit limit?!

Am I the only one outraged by this comment?
Hey how about I put a limit on your bank account, and then force you to buy random things ?

Why would you hoard money in a video game whose essential purpose is to be a car encyclopedia in which you buy and experience different cars?

You'll be doing the same amount of racing to buy the same cars no matter if there's a limit or not. The only thing the limit changes is when you buy those cars.

Lastly the multiple rare cars excuse, I would LOVE to see how many times someone runs into a situation when they are at the 20,000,000 cap and 2 incredibly rare cars that go over that turn up at once, and if its THAT big a deal sell something and replace it, the replacement cost is negligible to the 20,000,000 you're about to burn anyways.

Firstly, there is no reason for a 20 million credit cap.

Secondly, it creates a very real and obvious problem when it comes to collecting certain cars. You need to wait for the horribly designed UCD to display the car you want. When you want a car that approaches the credit cap, you're basically forced to not spend any money until the used car shows up. Then on top of that, you can't save up for the pointless maintenance you have to do on the car. The latter isn't as much of an issue as getting the car, but I'd like to stay as far away from something like A-Spec as possible. Also consider that even if only one rare car shows up at once, there is no guarantee that a second rare car won't show up while you're recovering from spending ~20,000,000. It's simply poor design at its best, the hallmark of A-Spec.

The 20,000,000 cars in the dealership aren't going anywhere, so the 20,000,000 cap isn't all that relevant in their case (however, there is zero reason to have the cap, so I'm still against it by virtue of its absolute uselessness), but the 2J, GT40, 2D, and maybe some other cars I don't remember would certainly be a nuisance to get if someone doesn't luck out with the UCD and/or doesn't have all the dealership cars they want.

Meh I whole heartily disagree with your statement of their being no reason for it, I have outlined a very good reason for it and have given examples where such things were not put in place and it ruined a large portion of the game because of it.

Furthermore I absolutely will not say a-spec is well designed at all, I will say what you consider poorly designed in the used car dealer I have always enjoyed about the series, I was disappointed when gt3 removed used cars, very disappointed. You also state maintenance is useless and you avoid A spec, that's your fault, not the games, you don't like it (esp a spec..like that's going anywhere) there are plenty of PC racers that have you pick a car and go without having to earn anything.

And being forced to not spend the money cause you want X car..about that, if you REALLY want that car enough why are you even bothered by buying something else anyways? if you are willing to get something that is 8 figured, it would seem to me you're pretty damn committed to getting that, and that alone for the time being.

I don't think so. Money cap wouldn't have solved a thing in Forza, as was said, they would have just glitched to 20,000,000 or whatever. It also didn't ruin the game since whoever was glitching wasn't bothering anyone else. I played Forza, I wouldn't have known about any money glitch unless someone told me

You're absolutely correct. But I'll voice my opinion just in case PD decides to listen.

This doesn't make sense. Many, many people want a good number of cars in the game. PD even encourages it to a degree, there is a trophy for 1000 cars and some for expensive cars. I can very easily REALLY want a 2D and a GT-One at the same time. In fact, I want both right now. The number of figures in the price has no impact on my desire or how commited I am to wanting those things.

The cap should be raised if its not gonna be removed.

If a car can cost the total amount of the maximum credits allowed, something has to be changed.

I think the cap is lame but I've dealt with it and will continue to do so. It's really not worth making a big fuss over.

Here have some cheese.

Don't like the cap.

I have yet to hit the cap (I'm about 2.5 million away), but I can see the problem. I'd like to have a little something extra after I purchase something astronomical. The fact that certain cars are far more expensive than they were in GT4, and since GT5 encourages car-collecting to a certain degree (1000 cars in your garage trophy, trading, etc.) dictates that the cap just makes it more of a tedious grind that it should be. If I finally got to 20 million, and spent it all on a Ferrari 330 P4 I've been wanting at the new dealershhip, but just when things are getting smooth, a Chaparral 2D that I've been looking for finally appears in the used dealership after what seems like eons, is unfortunately out of reach for me because I'm broke from dropping all 20 million on that Ferrari. This wouldn't happen if there was simply no cap. Honestly, I'd be a tiny bit peeved. :banghead: :ouch:

Again to those who are in favor of it, returning to the example of real-world situation, because it explains why the fairly low cr. cap is a bad idea in a way, do you guys spend all your money (go $0 on your balance) on something and don't mind, or would you rather have a little extra in case of emergencies, or needing to spend it elsewhere?

I fully understand forza had no cap that's why I mentioned both possilities (a $$ cap with a limit and a number cap with no limit).

But everyone keeps bringing up problems in Forza that this would fix... what does that have to do with anything? Why not limit the number of upgrades you can do to a car at a time because in CoD too many upgrades made you run around knifing everyone unfairly? Oh what? It's not a problem in GT5 so it's not a legit solution?

Again I ask: What did the cap do GOOD for GT5? All I have heard is that it is a solution for a problem that does not exist!

There is no money glitch in GT5... there is nothing that it prevents you from doing that would be bad for the game experience (that is if you really care what others do with their own game). So far everyone is focused on defending why it's not bad... ok so why is it good?

It's not.

It does nothig for GT5... at BEST it's not bad and even that's not true.

It's bad in very rare intances... but again I say what's the point of something that is not good at all but is bad in some cases?

That's like defending slapping someone in the face because it doens't really hurt them that much.

OK but what good does it do? If it doesn't do any good then no matter how small the bad it does, it is a bad idea.

Again stop defending and rationalizing why it's not bad, tell me what good it does? A potential negative has already been identified (rare as it may be) give me a couter positive. Anything. How does this make GT5 better other than making a glitch a little less effective that doesn't even exist in this game anyway?

It reminds me of the quote "those who would give up liberty for security deserve neither and will loose both".

This isn't as grandious an issue obviuosly, but it seems like so many GT fans are eager to eat up any reasons and excuses for more and more limitations to be put on the game...

People support factors that make the game less fun becauase it MIGHT save you from some unseen possible fear... :indiff:

Cutting off the nose to spite the face.

. It also didn't ruin the game since whoever was glitching wasn't bothering anyone else.

That is complete and utter BS, the only way you can feel that is if you did not once try to get something desirable in the auction house, i watched cars sell for hundreds of billions of dollars and I promise you a majority of that was not legitimately earned.

I bought things from Forza's auction house. So what if it's not legitemately earned? If there is more stuff to buy, it would benefit me. Would I care that something I bought from someone was earned/bought/duped/written-in-with-a-save-game-editor? I wouldn't care at all. I don't know anything about glitching and duping in Forza, but if people were doing it, I'm glad.

Now I guess in Forza's case, trying to sell duped cars could pose a problem for sellers, but then again Forza won't let you profit off a normal car anyway. If you tried to sell a car for more than it's worth in the Forza dealer, someone would just buy it in their own game. Duping wouldn't hurt customized cars, which were really the only way to make a profit.

I guess it's off to the side, but when you said "desireable" it made me think of this. In Forza I refused to profit off anything in the auction house. Go to my storefront, everything is free. And I only got 1,000 credits for my acutions because I couldn't set the price to zero. I auctioned a few Viper ACR's, a S7, and some other stuff. I wanted to auction the 20,000,000 cr Ferrari for 1,000 cr too, but I never ended up getting one. Like in GT5, I wouldn't want to make someone go through single player for any longer than they wanted to.

When this game first came out, I was grinding the High Speed Ring with the LF-A, and then Monza with the 458, and finally progressed to GrIndiannopolis with the RM ZR-1 as if it were my job (after getting home from my real job). I didn't know about the 20 million credit cap and was looking forward to hoarding enough to get the three 20 million credit historic racers after reading the little history of the rivalry that was, and the one that could have been with the Jag thrown into the mix on the official promotional site for GT5. Sure, getting more than 60 million credits would have taken a long time, but I was going to patiently grind whichever events I could tolerate. And then I hit the limit, and my first thought was, "what purpose does this limit actually serve?" I think I posted something to that effect, and someone broke out some fancy-pants "equations" telling me that I would earn 60 million credits in a game with a credit cap in... the same time I would earn it in one without, as long as my rates of accumulation were the same. I think his Fields Medal must be in transit right now for that piece of mathematical insight. He viewed being forced to spend credits when the game saw fit as having no negative consequences. Other people responded by saying they liked how it forced them to buy new cars to keep their balances under the limit. What kind of thinking is that?

Hypotheticals aside, this actually happened to me: a few weeks ago I was on the hunt for the Peugeot 905, and I stupidly spent enough of my ~15 million credits on the offerings at the OCD - I think it was the Escudo, the Bentley, and a Red Bull livery Audi A3 or A4 - that I dipped below the credits required for the 905. The Sauber C9 might have been one of the cars, I can't remember exactly which three, but that's not really the point. Guess what showed up the next time I checked in the UCD? Guess how many times I had to cycle through the UCD by skipping through the license tests to see the 905 again, too.

As Devedander and others have stated many times, this credit limit is a solution looking for a problem.

It's an arbitrary limit that honestly, makes it more frustrating when say, you want a 1970s classic and say, another race car or two pops up.

It doesn't help that getting that much cash takes a moronically long time either, but that's beside the point.

(GV 300KM ONLY GIVES 43K WTF?)

Limiting the Cr. to 20 million is not a great idea. Why not let us save up to 100 million, that way you can save up to buy the carbon Red Bull X2010 and still have money left over to buy that rare LM car for 3 million that appears two races later in the UCD.

Raising the limit just makes good sense to me.

I was thinking about saving money and later when I play in time trail or play with my friends. We can buy what ever we want and upgrade them anytime. I mean having 100mil or more and then I wouldn't need to play more unless I need money or having some free time.

Actually I like GT for the driving experience I got. I like to buy cars and hot lapping them upgrade them and see the difference before and after. I like to challenge my friends in 2player duels and see who can do better in his car selections and preference. So, I was looking to save a great amount of money to enjoy the game later as I wish.

I don't think it will hurt the economy in the game. As long as everybody have the chance to collect money from racing. I don't know why are some cares about game economy. It's just a game. Or you want to have a more realistic economy and a bank that is not realistic.

I feel like they cheated me to not mention the 20mil limit when I started the game. I was having around 19,8 millions and played a seasonal event that I got the car needed for it. I gain 200k and about 600k wasted to their unnecessary limit.

If some cars are gonna COST 20M then you should be able to SAVE more than that! Make it 200M or 500M! Just dumb.

The limit does nothing good. If you can hack or glitch in some imaginery way it you can glitch it to the 20 million max just as easily as 200 millions if there was no cap. All it changes is how many times you would need hack it. 200 = 20 x 10.

I think it is just yet one another stupid decision by pd. Forcing people buy cars so people can go back play the game and earn (more) money.

What are the goals for the cap? What is it for in the game? I can't think any sensible ideas. Probably that's why it is in the game. The only thing it can possible achieve is that people might be forced to drive the car they bought with 20 millions without tuning the crap out of it because you have no money left after buying the car. But this doesn't work either because you can buy every part and just put them into the "inventory" waiting to be put on some car later on.

What positives does the cap have? Apart from the incomprehensible reasoning from soullesvessel "some hack was in forza so we must have a cap in gt5 because forza didn't have it and gt5 would otherwise be hacked...?" ... I can't think of any. It's like pd thought there must be a limit so let's put one in for the sake having one.

Negatives... Oh boy. Having cars worth 20 million and setting the money limit to the same amount... With the ucd working the way it does you can't even save money anymore waiting the cars you want to appear so you can buy them. It's like pd was intentionally making the ucd as bad it is but then thought they could make even worse. It's like pd does want to add some additional difficulty making the cars even harder get "just because".

The 20 million credit limit is as sensible as having a 500 car limit, 20 paint chip limit or 20 sports exhaust pipe limit. By having such limit it would prevent hacking of exhaust pipes and "it would encourage us positively" to force us to use some of those paint chips or sell some of those cars to be able to get more paint chips and cars. Pd could even limit the amount of horn sounds you can have. Imagine the possibilities. I hope pd is not reading this because if they did I'm really scared they would do this!

Just as a side thought, I wonder how many people here spend more time complaining about the game, than actually playing it? Back on topic....you guys have to remember that PD and Kazunori-San LOVE cars, and they want you to buy them in the game. They figure if you have a finite amount of cash, you have to spend it eventually. They did not bust their ass for years adding all the cars to the series just to see gamers not buying the cars in-game. You are supposed to buy them, not hoard cash. I do think it should be higher than 20 million though.

A quick question for you: if I have fewer - compared to if there were no limit - credits at any particular time, am I capable of buying more cars than when I have more credits? The Ford GT that's in the UCD every blue moon and 19.something million credits, how likely are you to have between 19 and 20 million (remember, gotta keep buying cars since you don't want to be at or over 20 million, right?) when it pops up? This car more than any other is nearly impossible to get with the current system unless you get to within a whisker of 20 million and just keep power refreshing the UCD until it shows up. Better not get tempted by that Sauber C9 or whatever other desirable high-buck car with 200 km on the odometer, too!

Here is a pic of the msg. Once you finish a race and you are over 20 mil, you only get the portion of the winnings that top-you-up to 20 mil. You can continue to race and win, you simply only earn xp and get to see this lovely little msg each time.

Where is the logic in that?

They obviously don't want people driving the cars the put in the game because they don't let you get them. I LOVE cars, that is what makes me against car-enjoyment-prevention measures that plague GT5.

I've seen many a post like the one you've made, but does it really make sense? At all?

For the people trying to save money, you do realize its virtual money and it means nothing right? So why save it? Soon as I get a good chunk I go shopping. I leave myself a 5 mil barrier to I can get that race UCD pop up. Anything above that I but that cars I dont have.

That's what we're talking about. The problem. Let's say you want to buy an X2010 in purple. The X2010 at the dealership costs 20 million cr. Because the money limit is set to 20 million cr., there's no way for you to have that 5 million cr. cushion so you can maybe buy a car you like that appears in the used dealer. You have to go broke. The game is basically forcing you to spend all your money on one car if you are after it. You don't even have enough left over for a damn car wash. :ouch: 👎

Point is, there shouldn't be a limit if cars cost that much. Or at least make the limit much higher to allow more leeway.

So you spend the whole 20 million on the x2010, the fastest car in the game. Guess what, all that time you spent driving in A-Spec or B-Spec will be shortened because you have the fastest car in the game. So it will take less time this time around to get that 20 million back.

Plus, by making it take so long to complete the game, it gives you something to do for the next 8 years while they develop GT 6.
