The MR (Mitsubishi Racing) version of the EVO VIII is a Japanese-model only and is not offered for sale in the United States. The MR package includes:

* Quicker Response Bilstein Dampers
* Forged Aluminum Wheels
* Aluminum Roof Panel
* Improved 4WD system, ADC, & Super AYC Traction Control
* Sport ABS
* Improved Engine Torque Curve
* Improved Control at High Speed Limits
* Lowered Center of Gravity
* Refined Neutral Roll Characteristics

Lancer Evolution VIII MR uses slick-response Bilstein shocks for improved handling. The aluminum roof panel and other reductions in body weight have lowered the center of gravity to realize more natural roll characteristics. Detail improvements have also been made to Mitsubishi’s own electronic all-wheel drive, to the ACD 5 + Super AYC 6 traction control and to the Sports ABS systems. The Lancer Evolution VIII displayed at the 2003 Tokyo Motor Show took the MR designation traditionally reserved for Mitsubishi Motors high-performance models and used first on the Galant GTO.

The U.S. is getting it in 2005. It says so in Motor Trend. It says it will have a 6 speed manual transmission, 10 extra horsepower, lightweight alumnium roof, BBS-forged alumnium wheels, and ACD. Pricing has not been announced yet, but should be in low thirties to keep competitive with the Impreza WRX STi.

The Evo MR is headed to the state. It will cost around ~ 33,000 est.. Road and Track did a review on the awesome MR Evolution VIII its basically the fastest Evo you can get. It shed 300 lbs making it unbelievably fast and light. It also has a redefined suspention making cornering better. It will sell for around 33K i wonder if it has A/C or not since it sheded all that weight off.

If you are wondering what those things on the back is, it is a vortex generator, an innovation in aerodynamics technology and offered as a dealer-fitted accessory, creates small vortices at the trailing end of the roof that reduce drag and increase the downforce generated by the rear-deck spoiler. The generator vanes are finished in the same dark gray as the outer panels of the spoiler.
