Are you kidding?
My guess is that this will be the next XK. IMO, this is beautiful. Ian Callum has done it again!👍

The Jaguar Advanced Lightweight Coupe show car made its world debut today at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, Mich. The Advanced Lightweight Coupe show car heralds a new generation of stunning Jaguar sports cars and sports sedans. The car remains true to Jaguar's illustrious past but more importantly signals the company's confident leap forward into the future.

Joe Greenwell, Chairman and CEO of Jaguar Cars, introduced the show car.

"The Advanced Lightweight Coupe represents the very essence of Jaguar, its heart and soul. If you want to know what lies ahead for us, what direction we will take - this is Jaguar's answer."

The Advanced Lightweight Coupe is a physical expression of Design Director, Ian Callum's thoughts and intentions for the next generation of Jaguar cars, which like this 2+2 show car, will have purposeful and seductive exteriors that bring Jaguar design firmly into the 21st century.

The Advanced Lightweight Coupe benefits from Jaguar's advanced lightweight aluminum architecture technology that was introduced with the new XJ saloon; in production form the Advanced Lightweight Coupe would be as dynamic and agile as it is desirable.

This is a car that in unrestricted production form could reach 60 mph from standstill in less than five seconds and have potential 180 mph performance. Filled with examples of the intuitive driver

technologies that are Jaguar's trademark, the Advanced Lightweight Coupe also introduces some new ones.

This is a beautiful, fast Jaguar, true to the brand's past and future. It embodies sporting luxury and represents the future of Jaguar, as an ambassador for a marque whose reputation was founded on beautiful dynamic sports cars.

"This company has had many ground-breaking moments," continued Greenwell. "The XK120 was a ground-breaker and of course the E-Type and XJ saloon in the 1960's helped to change the face of motoring. These were events in automotive design history that have stood the test of time and I would like to think that we will look back on the Advanced Lightweight Coupe as another of those moments in Jaguar's lineage."

I could say something about the obvious visual similarities to Callum Astons... but hey, if you're on to something good, I say run with it.

Another excellent Callum car 👍

It's a very good looking car and is certainly a good replacement for the XKR. Anyone know when it's going to be made and sold? I wonder if it's in direct competition with the upcoming AstonMartin AMV8? If the prices are the same would'nt the AMV8 be more popular?

Hmm...I'm getting Aston Martin and Maserati out of this. We need to keep the Jaguar look previously established, i find that too many companies are now stealing design cues and companies that own others and have production/design rights are beginning to mesh into one big blob of similar looking cars. looks good tho.

Integra Type R
Beautiful. Looks too much like an Aston Martin DB9, though.
I agree but they are both owned by Ford. So it like it is like a Twin Sister of the DB9 than a distance cousin though that is not a bad thing.👍

Still not right- even if theyre inherently British, and very similar in terms of providing something to a buyer, I think there should be a definate line between all companies. They can all take cues sure, but I think this is pushing it a little bit too much. 900th post. look at that.

Looks too much like the Aston for my liking, if the Jag had been out first I might have said the opposite. Apart from the obvious front grill it doesn't really make me think 'Jaguar' the back lights don't help either, looks like Ford borrowed some lights from a certain Mazda ;) I quite like the old XKs but for some reason they always look crap in Gran Turismo...

Is there some hidden problem in that, that I don't yet see?
Surely it isn't a bad thing.

Also, I hope they don't limit the speed in this one. The old XKR/8 was limited to 156mph:(

It's bad in that there is already a car that looks a LOT like this.

I could go for new headlights.

that's exactly what i was thinking, looking at the history of Jaguar it seems likely that this fine piece of engineering will be fitted with a electronic speedlimiter (250 km/h)
it's a bad thing, just as the automatic transmission. But it luckily doesn't come with these dumb gearshift pedals on the stearingwheel ;)

I think that car looks great, I really do, but the problem is I don't think it looks like a Jaguar should. I see an awful lot of Aston Martin in that, especially the Vanquish which i a good thing for car design but it's not original, Aston's are unique in their design thats how you identify them this doesn't look like a Jag, it looks like a cheaper Aston.

:indiff:
Not bad but I am suprised knowone has mentioned this before on any motoring forum that I have looked at but the front lights are pure Mitsubishi Eclipse 💡 I think bishi should take them to court! Anyone else noticed this?

Also what ever happened to an 'F type' 2 seat roadster? Aimed at the Boxster/SLK market it would have been a sure fire success 💡 .

Jaguar canned the project and used the resources to develop its diesel cars. It's a profit thing. If they hadn't made that move, they would've been bankrupt by now.

Jaguar need something original need something to captivate people again. Like others have said it looks simply stunning but if they were to put it into production and if they wanted to shift it, it'd need to be more unique for the Jaguar brand. It does just look way to much Aston. That's what made cars like the E-type such a classic, the fact that it was so individual and nothing else like it was on the market.
I'm liking the back, but the front looks a bit plain for my liking. Plus Jaguar should really give it some guts this time......even though the XK8 was a nice car.....compared to the others on the market and for simiolar pirce it didn't pack much punch. A sub 5 second 0-60 isn't anything that spectacular anymore. a low 4 second time....now that would be impressive.
Hope they do replace the XK with this though...
