All the horsepower of the Corvette slammed into the Pontiac Solstice - the 400hp GM LS2 engine is an awesome addition to this super slick roadster. Mallett Cars has engineered it as a complete package. Extensive track and street testing has been done to assure that this car handles better than stock on either a Sunday drive or on a road course. The cars are complete from front to back using Genuine and Official Licensed Products of GM with the stock OEM catalytic converters in place to assure state emission compliances. And only Mallett Cars will back this kind of performance with a 2-year, 24,000 mile warranty.

Only 100 cars will be built, with a base price of $18,000 for the conversion.

The standard package includes:

400 HP V8 LS2 Engine - Rated at 400 HP @ 6,000 RPM and 400 LB-FT @ 4,400 RPM
LS2 Clutch, Pressure Plate, and Flywheel
Custom Modified Lowered Shocks
New Springs
Control Arm (A-Arm) Bushings
Corsa Stainless Muffler
World famous Mallett body graphics
Mallett graphics embroidered on seat headrests
Show Car Detailing
Mallett serial number plaque
2-year 24,000 mile warranty

Wait just a minute... an 18k conversion... for a 24-25k car? Just 40-44k for a 400hp baby Vette? Yummy...

Hmm... V8 does make it more appealing. I guess it's ok, except for that rear end.

edit:  for a min. there I thought it was FWD but I did a double take. Good thing they didn't **** that one up.

This car is still ugly as sin.....

BTW...

How the hell can you have a pic of it at a drag strip..

with no specs?

Does anyone else find that kinda lame on Mallets part?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a 400hp crate motor and just do an engine swap? Then again, you wouldn't get a warranty.

But that car has to be really damn fast. Fast and difficult to drive probably...

i'm guessing there was more to it then that. seeing as the stock version comes with an inline 4 and this is a V8. they probably had to do a bit of cutting and such.

Damnit... Trying... to... hold back!!!! :scared:

40,000 gets you an... don't say it! don't say it!

Get's you... an... *gaf*

Holy hell, that was hard to hold back.

:)

Why does the guy in that profile shot look really pissed off? Does he not like the car?

Anyway, this thing is ******* sweet, but it's got two problems, and both have been mentioned already. :) I agree that this should be done with the much-better-looking Sky, and I agree that this thing probably suffers from Cobra syndrome -- a.k.a the handling balance has been shot by shoving that big V8 under the hood.

Cause he probably has to take it pack after the pics are done...God, whata sweet ride. And such a subtle upgrade from the outside, no outlandish graphics or MALLET decals, just simple nice true to form, but with an engine from hell. Sweet.

Thats a sick looking car. I would guess that 400hp and 2800lb should get it into the upper 11 second quarter mile at around 115mph if it could hook up. A couple minor bolt on upgrades should easily get the car around 425 450hp.

If the Kappa platform can take the LS2 so easily, it makes me wonder how adaptable the Kappa platform is overall. I may be an insane GM guy, but it would seem perfectly logical to "stretch" the Kappa platform to give us all a new Camaro or Firebird.

Just think of it, it just seems too easy:
Have the 3.9L (240HP) V6 with either a 4-speed auto or 6-speed manual as standard equipment. The all new Aluminum Vortec 5300 V8 with DOD (325HP, out of the Tahoe) should be the "base" V8 engine for the Camaro (RS or SS), matted again to eiter a 4-speed auto or a 6-speed manual. And finially the LS2 should power the top model (probably the Z28) with either the 6-speed auto or 6-speed manual from the Corvette.

Most of the suspension pieces could be "dumbed down" versions of Corvette parts, or maybe go the way of the Mustang, and go on without an IRS.

As far as interior space goes, they should do much the same that they did with the Solstice... Steal as much as they can from the other cars and trucks... Maybe use the guages and seats from the Cobalt SS, the steering wheel out of the Corvette, the radio out of the G6, etc... Saves money and makes design a helluva lot easier...

It all seems to easy, I know... But why the hell go without a Camaro when it has been proven that the Kappa platform can take on a V8?

Unless my brain is manfunctioning the Camaro model lineup is like this:

V6 Base
RS
Z28
SS

The Z28 didn't go above the SS in any of the years where it was available that I can remember.

The Z/28 was the track racing model, designed more for handeling and Trans-Am performance, as the origional 302-powered Z/28s from 1967-1969 were meant to be direct compeditors to the Boss 302 Mustangs.

The SS was a more street-oriented performing Camaro, with more powerful engines and higher-performance transmissions. They had more standard equipment than any of the other models, and were the fastest of the bunch (besides the COPO 427s). Available from 1967-1972, it slowly lost it's head place to the Z/28, and in 1974, the Z/28 became top-dog. It was not untill 1997 when the SS took the top spot again, but the difference between the Z/28 and the SS was minimal, again just a few options, and a slightly more powerful LS1 under the hood.

If I were to recalibrate the Camaros, I would line it up like so:

"Base" Camaro: 3.9L V6 240HP with standard 4-speed automatic or 6-speed manual

"Standard" Camaro: 300HP Vortec 5300 V8 with standard 4-speed automatic and optional 6-speed manual. Optional RS packagine available.

Camaro SS Package: 345HP Vortec Max 6000 (GMT800 Escalade and Silverado SS) V8 with standard 4-speed automatic and optional 6-speed manual. Can also be optioned with 380HP 6200 (2007 GMC Denali) Vortec V8 with 6-speed automatic and 6-speed manual.

Camaro Z/28 Package: 400HP LS2 with standard 6-speed manual only. Baisicly a stripped down SS...

"COPO" Camaro: 505HP LS7 with 6-speed manual only. Same as the Z/28, just with the 427ci LS7...

Although to call the difference between the SS and Z/28 is a bit tought, I must admit. GM doesnt offer the wide range of V8s as they used to, and the horsepower differences are far closer together than what they used to be. There is no longer a high-reving V8 to power the Z/28, but there are the high-torque engines to motivate the SS as they had before. Unfortunately it is the lack of the performance-oriented V8s that makes the decisions so tough, as they are just the LS2 and LS7.

Just wait for the pictures from the NAIAS were the Camaro will debute. I had the pics up on the site but GM complained and we took them down. But ya you'll see the Camaro soon enough.

But as for the Mallet Soltice, I want one, that's a really good sleeper car. Also you can get the optional turbo or supercharger. I know I want a turboed LS2 under the hood of a car that weighs 2100 pounds.

If I had some money to play with, I wouldnt mind re-creating the old Cheetah Racecar from the 1960s with a Mallet Solstice. The dimensions and power outputs are similar, and the looks are close as well...

Cheap, Fast, Beautiful, Will kill you in just a few days.... I'm in love :D

Really cool car, too bad I won't be seeing any of that where I live :(

I'll definatly be seeing some around me, I'm sure GM bought a couple and I'm sure some collectors around here did as well.

I want to be at that first red light when the guy in his 30's-40's in his beefed up Solstice and pulls up alongsiide a white teenager in his riced out econobox and the teenager proceeds to rev his engine--light turns green--and his manhood (such as it is) is lost forever. Yes, I do dream of this day. I'd own one of these over owning a 5.0 Miata...and I have driven a 302ci swapped Miata--it's ungodly fast but this Solstice will be faster.
