Ralliart is the motorsports arm of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. Worldwide, Ralliart vehicles feature enhanced performance, specialty equipment and sporty styling elements that include more powerful engines, sport-tuned suspensions as well as special fascia and styling cues. The best-selling import coupe for the past 15 years, Eclipse was redesigned for 2006 -and Mitsubishi design engineers wasted no time giving Eclipse the Ralliart treatment.

"To be considered Ralliart, a vehicle must offer improved

engine performance and handling, sportier styling, interior enhancements and bold paint," explained Dan Sims, general manager of MMNA's design center. "The Eclipse Ralliart concept passes that test with flying colors."

Special attention was paid to increasing horsepower and torque, adding all-wheel drive capability for improved power in a variety of driving conditions while minimizing weight. To boost horsepower to an estimated 400 hp, a turbocharged 4G63 engine was borrowed from the Lancer Evolution and supplemented with a custom air intake and other HKS performance parts. The concept Eclipse's rally prowess is enhanced with the all-wheel drive system currently available on the Endeavor and Lancer Evolution as well as a six-speed manual transmission. Lightweight carbon fiber was used extensively in the roof, hood, fascias and front fenders.

The custom exterior is enhanced by Hot Red Mica paint, specially formulated by PPG for this concept. The Eclipse Ralliart rides on 20-inch high-performance carbon fiber wheels with AVS Sport Yokohama tires. Interior enhancements include Recaro performance seats trimmed with leather and Alcanterra suede, four-point restraints, racing gauges and a Rockford Fosgate premium sound system.

I'm not sure the front end works, but othe than that it looks nice.

That thing is hot!

I've tried to do something similiar with the one in GT4. I hope they include this exact model in the next GT.

I can't belive it's based on Eclipse! In and out, looks like an upscale sports car from Europe. 400 horsepower inline 4. Does that mean it's sharing the motor with some of the Evolutions?(not the U.S. ones, obviously).

"Does this wing and wide body make ass look fat?"
"No your fat ass makes your fat ass look fat!"

It's fast as hell but all the power in the world can't outrun the speed of ugly. Ugly would be based off of the speed of light since you are viewing it through your eyes, so the speed of ugly is 3.0 x 10^8 m/s.

It is a normal Evo 4G63 engine, just with added parts to give it the extra 100hp. All Evo motors internally are the same. They just vary in turbo, some other hard parts, and tune.....FQ400 not included. The FQ400 is a complete ground-up built engine unlike the others. But, all other Evos, be it JDM, USDM, FQ260, FQ340 or whatever. They are all internally the same.

I thought the 400 was the same.

Glad to hear other.

I really like the rally art concept. It's kind of sad that this is what the eclipse should have been like originally (well at least an awd turbo).

I was about to say re-repost but that's from another forum. It was nice but it's really wearing off now. I guess it's like the guy from the other forum said, Why does everyone feel the need to copy Audi's ****ty nose?

I like it, i really do like what they have done. Definitly a good car to carry on the Eclipse lineup.

Thanks! Yeah, I figured base of the engine was the same. I think FQ400 was a Evo that's available in Europe or just U.K.?

I agree with those that thought this was how the new Eclipse was supposed to be done. Instead, MMC screwed it up, two generations in a row. :indiff:

Yes, the "FQ" Evos are just available in the UK. In the US, you have the "Lancer Evolution". In Japan, you have the "Lancer Evolution VII-VIII-IX" or whatever. But, in other parts, where the car is gray-marketed, they have more specialised versions. All the "FQ" versions are UK-specific versions of varying tune.

No, totally different. The engine in that shares the 4G63 block and head with the other Evos, but thats it. It has different pistons, rods, exhaust manifold, turbo, injectors, IC, IC piping.....and so on. Its Evo turned up to 11 on a "factory offered" scale.

If you say so... I'm sure they will retard it up before sending it to the USA last like always.
They are only made in the States. No Eclipse has ever been made anywhere overseas. They are all made in Normal, IL.

Come to think of it, I think I remember reading something on the first gen. Eclipse, on how it was a left-hand drive import in Japan.

I believe that this car is insanely sweet in every aspect, although I'm not quite sure. Let me think about it......................yeah, it's frickin sweet. It looks great. It also LOOKS like it handles very well, but with mandatory AWD understeer. It also LOOKS quick and fast, I wonder if it would actually perform like it has 400 or so horsepower. But what about torque, you know, the important part? (see quote below). Big brakes usually mean quick, reliable stops, if you have the rest of the package, too. It'd be neat if it performed to expectations. Will any magazines test it? They should.

Well yeah... but that doesn't change that they will ultimately retard it down because it's too nice for America. Have we ever gotten the Focus RS here? No... why? it's too nice.

thats "teh sex!"

the rims give it an awesome stance and the exterior treatment is very fitting with the presence of the design. too bad normal ones dont offer 4wd... 👎

At least normal Eclipses are quite a bit more driver oriented
than the last ones.... the last one just screamed "mom-car".

I'm sorry... much of the package is sexy, but every time I
look at that nose, I'm thinking:
BUGS BUNNY IN RED AND BLACK

Thats assuming it is actually coming out, which I doubt it is. This car is just a show piece, a SEMA trophy so to speak. It has all the parts to make for a decent ride. But, the chances of anything even remotely like that coming out are slim to none.

When we get a "Ralliart" version of the 4G, it will have nothing in common with this car, hardware-wise. Might look similar, and have a bit more power than stock. But, it will not have the turbo-4 from the Evo. Why would they actually build a car like that to compete with their own company top-dog Evo. Its just like the discussion in the other thread about the V8 Z-car. It would be nice, but would compete too much with the GT-R, so chances are slim it will happen. Same with this car.
VIPFREAK

No, its because we already had the "SVT" line here. And, the SVT Focus didn't sell that well. Its not that the car is too nice for America, its just that we already had a "performance Focus" with the SVT. Not too nice, just no need. And besides, people here just don't seem to think the words "Performance" and "Focus" belong in a sentence together.

 SVT Performance version... whatever.

That's a damn shame...

It was a lame car. But, you get what I mean. SVT at the time was the "tops" for performance in the Ford brand here in the states. You can't just bring an RS over and crowd the lineup.
VIPFREAK
That's a damn shame...
There are a lot of cars here that don't make it for the same reason. Sucks, but it happens.

Trust me, I would have loved to see the RS come over here. I actually thought the old Focus was a good looking car. Just lacked speed. The RS would have solved that problem, easilly. But, I don't think many people would have understood the car. The old SVT Contour was a great car, but people just didn't understand that either, and it sold like crap.
