Well, my pads finally arrived today so it was time for me to spend some time outside and see what kind of damage I could do. I started with a little test area and expanded it to about 2/3's of my roof.

I'm pretty happy with the results. I was nervous about taking too much clear off, and I definitely took some off (I think), but it seems there is enough to go around this time. Next time maybe not, who knows.

So what finally worked for me was Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound, you know....that nasty red stuff? Yep, true story.

  • Started with that on my heavy cutter yellow pad.
  • Then XMT4 on my orange pad.
  • XMT1 on my black pad.
  • Pinnacle Polisher on my white polisher pad.
  • finally wax.
It took a good while to get it right. I actually went through that whole process once but wasn't happy with the results so I went back. Used way more rubbing compound product and slowed my passes down. Some spots were really bad that I addressed by hand.

I have to be honest. I was pretty nervous as more than one person suggested that it was the sealant under the paint coming up, while other cautioned that I would be going past the clear into the paint. I guess all of those a valid concerns, but I have determined that it is not under the clear, but rather the surface, and more specifically appears to be the clear is starting to fail. In all honesty, I can remember some of these spots when I got the car new, but you can really only see them in the right lighting.

That portion of the roof took about 2.5 hours. Knowing what I know now, That section would take maybe an hour. I figure the hood will take a solid 1.5 to 2 hours and the trunk maybe an hour. I will keep each pad on until that step is done which will help. Like I said, tonight was more of an experiment before I unleash all of my attention on the horizontal surfaces.

Lookin good! I had a 30R with a 6 speed and they are great cars. Gotta say, although I am a die-hard Nissan nut, those Legacy's are really well put together!!

Same colour as your one too :)

Great purchase, At first i was'nt too keen on the Legacy, however after seeing a few on the road, i've grown to like them. Any more performance upgrades or is this it for now?

Also saw this in an EVO mag,

You even had a STi 6-speed in there, nice! I really like the body style of yours on up to 2009. From 2010+ my interest has really just gone blah! The Scion's are more interesting to looking. :)

Nice tS model, but again, those body lines... meh. I hope they get back to some style before too long. I do like the idea of a STi tuned model though. Performance out of the shoot. I'm hoping when I'm done I will have something that even those STi guys will be envious of. See below.

Performance upgrades? Yes, I am actually in the process of deciding which turbo to go with. I think I have settled on a BNR 20G TD05H with a 7cm hotside. On 91 pump and a tune, that should get me around 350 AWHP or so. Of course I will need all the supporting mods to go with it, Electronic Waste Gate, 3-speed boost solenoid, upgraded inter cooler (looking at the Process West TMIC or the RacerX FMIC, undecided here), 850cc injectors, AVE or DeatschWerks fuel pump upgrade, upgraded oil lines, and a few other pieces and parts.

That should hit like a two ton brick at about 3500 rpm or so. With my downpipe, exaust, and tune, I am at about 210 AWHP so this next step will be a substantial upgrade to an already pretty fast platform. Should be fun. :)

When E85 ever becomes available, should be able to tune over 400 WHP. Hummm..... This would of course mean a new clutch, engine internals, and a few other goodies....

The TS model has'nt had any upgrade done to the engine, instead they went ahead to improve the handling, not sure if STI usually do this, but why not i guess.

Well with that power it sure will put a smile on your face whenever go out for a drive. Just out of curiosity am i right in saying that from the beginning this car produced around 170ft-lb of torque?

Thanks for the info too :)👍

EDIT: also check out Detailingworld.co.uk, am sure they'll be able to help you out with any paintwork/detailing matters.

Stock flywheel numbers on the GT is:
Torque: 241 ft-lbs. @ 3600 rpm
Horsepower: 243 hp @ 6000 rpm

Low reading Mustang Dyno's will read stock HP at around 175 or so at the wheels.

I'll check out that site for sure. I have some pesky spots (see above) that are becoming more work that what they are worth. I would love that mirror finish all the way around, but I am chewing through pads like cotton candy and the polishing compound is a total mess to work with. All though the results above are pretty good, it's still not perfect and the time it is taking is more time than I have.

i know it's been a while but I just saw your thread on the Trading Post, is it really gone :( Hope it went to a good owner 👍

LOL. Well, not exactly. Work is providing a company car and I needed finances to keep my kids in private school. It was a good trade I would make again, but it is a little sad. I did cry a bit.
