2012 Nissan GTR [0-60: under 3 seconds]

Actually.. It is an actual undercover police car.

Top Gear Article

Is this the world’s scariest police car?

One school of legal thought argues that the foundations of law itself derive from a code of human behaviour; based on 'morals'. Thus, legislation is hampered by innate human limits.

One such limit: the fleet of cars in the hands of our constabulary. Clearly, you're not going to give meaningful chase in an Astra panda car.

But EVI has stepped in to drastically redress the balance. The American organisation, based in Virginia, is headed up by an ex US secret service agent and outfits undercover police cars. They told TopGear.com that they've been asked by an undisclosed police force to equip that GT-R you see above for undercover police duty.

EVI couldn't comment on the car's spec, nor which police force would be deploying said GT-R for undercover duty, nor if it's even in the US. It could have been shipped anywhere around the world, they told us.

But they did share some pics. Criminals of the world, you have been warned...

^Not an official police car, just a GT-R with police lights installed.

My friend did the same for his Crown Victoria when he was in high school for the giggles.
Tell that to the people of Fairfax, Virginia, then. This car has been seen on duty.

Yup its a real police car. It's being outfitted by EVI they're a company that specializes in installing all the necessary equipment to service agencies and ONLY service agencies. EVI has stated that a department dropped it off but they're disclosing what agency did. It's most likely going to be used as a ghost car.

EDIT:
Fairfax Virginia eh? There was a lot of comments tipping it off to them. It was only a matter of time. Till it was spotted doing it's job.

Is this going to be like those Grand Nationals that someone in the federal government procured in the mid 80s to do something with?

Here's some fresh news regarding the next, MY2013 GTR from NAGTROC..

This past weekend at the Nurburging Nissan held a European Press Event to debut the MY2012 ( 2013 US spec) GT-R.

Just 1 year the comprehensive updates of the DBA-R35, the GTR continues its evolution. Details from the event are still being gathered and we will keep you posted, but here is what is currently know:

- The 2013 GTR will once again feature a substantial gain in HP on par with the current increase from last years model. The final number will be announced at the car's launch, but it was shown at the event to be at least 40hp so expect 570+ HP. In addtion to increased boost, revisions to the intake and exhaust have been made.

- Visually the 2013 remains the same with no additional color options

- Suspension and Transmission logic have been tweaked

- Under body has been changed to improve aero and cooling

- Co2 emissions have once again been lowered

- Premium Black Edition and Egoist will be offered worldwide

- Official Ring Time Attack attempt is expected mid October

- The R35 life cycle is expected to continue for 2 additional model years

- In addition to these models a "Track Edition" will be available as RHD only to markets outside the US. This GTR is the one we reported on earlier this week with carbon parts inspired by Nissan Test Driver Toshio Suzuki's GTR tuning brand "Nordring ". It also features Dunlop Race slicks aswell as Volk Racing wheels

So, we should see a fresh laptime ( not a lap record, since there's no such thing on Nürb) appearing withing couple weeks..

They make a ton of progress in GT-R's each year. Bravo. If I bought a 2008 GT-R, I'd feel like a first generation iPhone buyer right about now.

Seems like they are making a version just for the track for the 2013 model year. Expect to see more made unlike the N1 . Also love the new bottom lip diffuser, reminds me of the one used on the r34 v spec. I see nothing wrong with this beautiful beast, the daytime running lights are a superb addition.

Well I drove one at work! Well let me correct, I "moved" one without really touching the gas pedal but hey I still steered!

And the interior.

I then did the most nervous wax touch up I've ever done in my life... Paint scratches REALLY easy on those things.

Looks better in person.

I thought that pricing was a bit off, but then saw that you are in Canada, so that explains it. Too bad you didn't get to dive into a corner at 130+ mph in one. ;)

Tesla
Am I alone in thinking the wheel looks a bit... well, plastic-y?

It's leather wrapped so definately not plastic-y. I'll chalk that up to my camera phone.

God I'd love to. Sales managers are taken to Las Vegas Motor Speedway every couple years to GTR school. They get to drive them to their limits around the track which would be pretty damn cool.

You'd be surprised how much horsepower you can get out of a turbo car by tweaking the intake/exhaust and fine tuning the ECU.

Thats crazy fast for a big heavy car. I am personally more interested in 0-100mph and 0-150mph and even 0-180mph. ( if the car can get there)

Bikers have never really been interested in 0-60mph times, as all spotsbikes, 600cc and above hover around the 2.5 to 3.5 mark, so does not become interesting when comparing.

Its now getting to that stage with cars now, as they have really jumped leaps and bounds over the last few years, with more power, less weight, better TC and rubber.

When my motorcycle was released in 97, there was only 1 (well known/mainstream) road car that could match it from 0-100mph and that is a Mclraren F1. Now 911 Turbos, GTR's and 458s are matching or are very close from 0-60mph and 0-100mph.

I would love to get one of these, Although i'm not sure the insurance company would appreciate a learner driver in one of these at 18 years old.

Gearing is still a limiting factor, as well as the weather. They had severe gusts of wind which limited their attempts.

Yes. they had strengthened first gear to deal with the stress of the launch, but 6th and final gearing were untouched.
