Hey everyone. Saw the 2013 Ford Police Interceptor yesterday. I must say, it's very impressive. It has the body of the Ford Falcon (Non-U.S. car) and had a supercharged badge on the back. Unfortunately I was on the freeway so no pics. This one didn't have any government plates or markings on it so I assume it's someone's personal vehicle or is a demo that a dealer is using. Has anyone else seen this car yet?

I thought I read somewhere it was a supercharged Taurus SHO?

Haven't seen a new Taurus yet. Personally I hate the name and it reminds me of the old garbage Taurus. Wish they would bring the Falcon here.

Buy a Falcon badge. Done.

Both the new Taurus and Mondeo/Fusion look ace. If I was in the market for that sort of car, thats what i would get.

No, it's a twin turbo'd ecoboost V6.
In fact, I saw one the other night. Has nothing in common with the Falcon.

I didn't think they were too bad depending on model and year. Sold pretty well around here actually.

I request pics, because there was no word of your described car even being here.

The new police interceptors are the Taurus Ecoboost and Ford Explorer.

My son is getting one in about two months or less. He showed me pictures a month ago and I think they look pretty good. He will be getting an all black one, because he patrols the road going to Seward and Kenai area.

P.S. Stopped a guy that was doing 127mph on a bike the other day! Not very bright on the bike riders part!

So Canadian police started using the new Fords?

Down here in Florida, almost all the new police cars are Dodge Chargers.

We have the sensible model here, a FWD naturally aspirated one. Because we don't need all the fancy crap to be broken all the time.

Who shops at Food Basics?

Its a pretty nice looking car though.

Hah, I was at Starbucks sitting beside a table full of cops and when I left I noticed on of the car's was a new Interceptor so I started snapping photos and the friendly officer saw this and decided to show the car and talk about it with me.

Twin-turbocharged, direct-injection V6. The Ford Taurus Pursuit is based on the SHO, but has some better driveline upgrades.

Most of the Tauruses are going to have the standard 3.7L V6 and front wheel drive when used in metropolitan areas.

Last I had heard, the Chicago Police Department plans on replacing their fleet with the Taurus Pursuit, while the California Highway Patrol will be doing so with the Explorer-based model.

The CHP are planning to replace the MAJORITY of the fleet with the Explorer? Or just the offroad cars? They have several new Dodge Rams (At least, up here).

And as far as cruisers/interceptors, one of the CHP guys in my area still drives a CHP 1999 Chevy Camaro.

It would be rather neat to see the new Taurus popping up. It looks alot better than that Carbon Motors thing.

The crown Victorias they have can still go for a while, but they won't last very long as police cars. The explorer was the only new police car that met the payload requirement for the CHP.

Yeah here we have Crown Vic's, older Chargers, Impalas, and every now or then a new Charger. I think I've also seen the new Chevy thing, forgot the name

The Crown Vics up here (Granted, we dont get shot at all the time, or have massive chases, etc.) Seem like they are literally new.

And our CHP Crown Vics are equally pristine, they just dont have the flashy livery.

Edit: It seems the CHP is aiming to replace it's entire fleet with the Explorer.
If you read a bit down the article, the tests sounds brutal.
They are replacing the whole fleet with Explorers because while the Crown Victoria was quite a heavy bit of kit, the modern "Replacements" can only carry around 1200 pounds, and the CHP reckons it needs to carry about 1700 Pounds in kit and officers(Yes, they expect the vehicle to carry all of the extra equipment, and 4 fully-dressed Officers). Thus, the Explorer it is.

And from what the CHP requires, performance-wise, this isnt your Soccer Mum's Explorer
"The CHP requires that its vehicles hit 60 mph in under 10 seconds and 100 mph in under 29 seconds. It also requires that a vehicle be able to accelerate from 50 mph to 100 mph in less than 22 seconds and have a minimum top speed of 120 mph. The CHP also requires that a vehicle hit 120 mph from a standing start within two miles."
Wow. Pretty quick for a massive SUV filled to the brim with stuff.

But... as I suspected....
Don't forget what Crown Victoria headlights look like, though, because the CHP purchased 329 of them in February 2011 before their production run ended

On topic: The article also states that they will likely purchase a few of the Taurus Police Interceptors for "Administrative" use.

Yup Crown Vics around my area still. Most of them have pushbars however.

I'm in NY, all we have are Chargers, Crown Victorias, and Impalas as police cars...they're not even the newest models...
