The Crown Vics up here (Granted, we dont get shot at all the time, or have massive chases, etc.) Seem like they are literally new.
And our CHP Crown Vics are equally pristine, they just dont have the flashy livery.
Edit: It seems the CHP
is aiming to replace it's entire fleet with the Explorer.
If you read a bit down the article, the tests sounds brutal.
They are replacing the whole fleet with Explorers because while the Crown Victoria was quite a heavy bit of kit, the modern "Replacements" can only carry around 1200 pounds, and the CHP reckons it needs to carry about 1700 Pounds in kit and officers(Yes, they expect the vehicle to carry all of the extra equipment, and 4 fully-dressed Officers). Thus, the Explorer it is.
And from what the CHP requires, performance-wise, this isnt your Soccer Mum's Explorer
"The CHP requires that its vehicles hit 60 mph in under 10 seconds and 100 mph in under 29 seconds. It also requires that a vehicle be able to accelerate from 50 mph to 100 mph in less than 22 seconds and have a minimum top speed of 120 mph. The CHP also requires that a vehicle hit 120 mph from a standing start within two miles."
Wow. Pretty quick for a massive SUV filled to the brim with stuff.

But... as I suspected....
Don't forget what Crown Victoria headlights look like, though, because the CHP purchased 329 of them in February 2011 before their production run ended
On topic: The article also states that they will likely purchase a few of the Taurus Police Interceptors for "Administrative" use.
