Mercedes were just a pair of moving chicanes today. Incredibly disappointing.

Must've really stung for Lewis, being passed by both McLarens and then being lapped. I've never known a team with such a gulf between one lap pace and race pace, it's silly.

That being said, is anyone else looking forward to a Mercedes front-row lockout, and then a 78-lap 22-car procession at Monaco? I'd find that hilarious.

Deserved win for Alonso, he also had a puncture but the team wasn't sleeping on their monitors like other times..
Well that doesn't mean much when Ferrari have the raw speed and pace, Lotus are great with tire and speed, but Ferrari are so much faster. After this race I would seriously say Ferrari > Lotus > RBR.
Today the Pricing Horse is on top but things can change very fast in F1. I expect RBR to come back in the 2nd half of the season. I'm impressed by Kimi Raikkonen season he has the consistency to keep up the fight for the champ until last race.

LOL if it happen. 👍

Fernando got quite 'lucky' regarding puncture. Good to hear Pirelli are making changes. I wonder how big a shock it would be to drivers if they raced on Bridgestones for once race with current cars (I know it will not happen and if next years cars are slower still then might not get to that scenario again for a while). Fitness of drivers would be much more tested if they have to drive 3 seconds a lap faster for example. If they like multiple stops then they should be able make them to be able to have faster race laps than Bridgestones were able to do in 2010 with one stops.

Lotus, good and bad, I really think Romain could have at least got points at the least. Good job rather Great job Kimi and if you keep doing this you and Fernando will be fighting it out for the championship.

He probably would've if he didn't have to retire due to a suspension failure ;)

He had an incredible amount of BAD luck before, whe he lost front wing could have been at least a 2nd place, probably a win. When he lost DRS could have been easily a podium. How many points wasted..
today Lady Luck just wasn't on the mood to do it again.

I agree Pirelli should change things ASAP.

If the commentating of Buxton is accurate, I'm glad to hear there is at least one team willing to drive the tires off the car for every stint and just keep changing out until the end of the race. Hearing Hamilton say on the radio he couldn't drive any slower is worse than almost anything else for the sport of F1 racing. His team needs to get that car sorted out immediately if not sooner. Pretty sure that team will have some management changes soon. If not, they should.

Enjoyed the race, but disappointed for Rosberg. Kimi is Mr. Dependable. To bad we can't fast forward to the race after Monaco. Not a fan of racetracks where one bad entrance can mean retirement. Don't care for the city tracks just for that reason.

If Massa can keep it up then Alonso has a great chance this year.

Mercedes will win it tomorrow, mark my words. Don't know if it'll be Lewis or Nico though. Btw, I'm not wrong in spirit if they crash out :P

Just like most of last year, Mercedes go backwards.

:-(

What on Earth is going on with Mercedes? Granted, they don't have quite the car that Ferrari, Lotus, and Red Bull do, but they aren't mid-pack cars this year; at least they weren't. I believe on more than one occasion Hamilton objected to his team that "I can't go any slower," which suggests he was being told to drive not only that slow but to go even slower still.

You know something is wrong when the pole man drives a perfect race in the dry and finishes over a minute off the winner. 👎

That's Mercedes' fault, not Pirelli's. Everyone else seems to handle the tyre situation just fine compared to them.

LOL, that'd be a feat.

Not happening though, half the field will pit early and pass Mercs that way.

These joke tyres are starting to slowly kill my interest in F1.

Nice to see Alonso win his home GP though. I think Kimi (the Shark) has a really good shot at the title this year also.

While I haven't given up on Hamilton yet, team Mercedes has to get it together.

Kimi is kicking ass right now, I've never seen him doing this well. Big plusses to him and Team Lotus.

The number of comments in this thread compared to past grand prix's tells you all you need to know. Very very forgettable.

But never the less some great drives out there, Alonso obviously, Massa, Raikkonen, Button did surprisingly well after his shocker of a start. Di Resta performed well too.

Lets hope the next race will be a little more exciting.

In some italians forums I heard people complaining how Formula 1 is bad and how Formula Indy is so much better.. LOL They are the same people that jump the band wagon claiming "F1 is the best" as soon as Vettel is in 1st place.
Today was very very forgettable for all the Ferrari haters I would say. ;)

I'd say it was forgettable simply cause it wasn't a very good race that would be overshadowed by GP2 if the latter was given the same exposure as F1.

You could apply that logic to any junior series if you wanted to. You're much more likely to get exciting races in GP2 and others because the cars are equal and because of poor driving standards. It's hardly the first time that a support series has had a more exciting race than F1. The drivers are so desperate to stand out from each other that they make desperate overtaking moves and shove people off the circuit to keep positions knowing that the stewards let them get away with it. Just like the GP2 race this morning, which was a disgrace.

Hamilton will never get to grip with these tyres, the guy hasn't got the brain for it.

I'm sorry but that is a ridiculous statement, whichever way you look at it he's 4th in the championship driving a car notorious for munching it's tyres.

I think if Massa wouldn't have had that grid penalty, and he had an equally a good start as he had from 9th, he would've had the 2nd place. Apart from his last stint, he didn't really look to be far off Alonso's pace, if any at all.

Alonso's lap 1 sector 1 performance is what might have won him the race. So beautiful how he saved a little of his KERS, passed 2 cars on the outside of turn 3, and then used his last bit of KERS to secure 3rd in lap 1. Absolutely driven like a champ.

He was about 6-7 seconds behind Fernando at some point (I think halfway ish)but the gap kept on increasing to about double that.seems Fernando had 2-3 tenth a lap.

Still a fantastic drive by Felipe ,more than deserved that podium.

I really really dont understand how Mercedes have not figured out this rear tire issue 4 seasons in

Perhaps they're already developing next year's car? I know it's only early days into this season yet, but with the huge development budget Mercedes will have they could definitely hit the ground running with the new specification next year.

Alternatively, perhaps it's just not that easy to figure out? I was wondering, too, how they haven't solved it after four years, but Webber still doesn't know how to set off properly and he's been having that problem for years too.

According to someone on another forum, it's something to do with their suspension set-up. They've sacrificed tyre durability for better hot lap pace.

Too much rear camber and too soft in the rear. That's what I think it is.

I was enjoying the race until 6 laps to go( because I saw what the podium was gonna look like anyway). Still amazing how they start at the same time and finish so far apart. It's still about who has the best formula so the tyres can't get the blame(the tyres that DON'T delaminate, that is). Some teams made what 5/6 stops? Webber said the same thing about tyre deg happened to cars in the GP2/3 races. It comes down to set up as pointed out in the above posts. Dicing for positions was entertaining.

Can't wait for the Austin 400 next week.

Best race of the season so far in my opinion, Alonso and Massa on the podium and no Red Bull! Who says you can't race on the new tires? Hope Ferrari keeps it up, screw tire conservation, attack, attack attack 👍
