From what someone posted above they said you could really hear who was doing what with the throttle in and out of corners with the new cars, seems like this would be even more interesting to me.

Can people shut up about the engines please. What is the point of having loud engines if you have to shove thick earplugs in before getting anywhere near it? I like that you can hear them now without earplugs as you can now hear everything. All they need to do is turn the volume up for broadcasting and the problem will not be a problem.

I honestly find the argument that they aren't loud enough to wear earplugs baffling. How does "they aren't loud enough for me to block out the sound" even make sense?

The engine sounds like it's trying to say: "i'm sad.. *okayface*"

It's depressing in my opinion.
I bet less and less people would buy the ticket from now on.

I myself haven't had the chance to go to an F1 race, and would love to someday, because my big sister had already been there and told me it's really loud and cool, but after listening to this new engine sounds, why would I ??? I don't have anymore reason to be there.. which is to hear and feel it. If I want to just watch, I better stay at home.

It's good to see what the cars look like in person. The detail of each car. The drivers as well. You dont realise how skinny some are or short or tall. The race atmosphere filled with car lovers. This will be my 4th Melbourne GP. My daughter was in my wife's womb at our first visit. It has become tradition now. :)

The volume isn't the problem. It's the actual sound.

To put it in GTP terms, I'd say the increased Sony (McLaren) and Nissan-Renault (RBR, Lotus, Caterham) influence is an effort to make the real cars sound like Gran Turismo ones so they don't have to try to get Kazunori to change the game...

I would rather see a good race than a loud parade...just sayin' 👍
Well, first of all, why not both?

Regarding the engines. It's not how loud they are that detracts from the racing, it's how they sound.

The loudness, however, WILL push away most casual fans. To the layman, F1 cars are just racing cars. No difference to the formula fords. They only way they feel like they got their money's worth is how they look and sound, and maybe how fast they go on the straights.

Treed by Famine again. Stalker

Good analogy anyway. I find it ironic that a lot of members here bitch about the sounds in Gran Turismo games, and yet find the new F1 sound perfectly acceptable.

I haven't seen such an unpredictable race in years...

But I'm going to stay with my classic "Kimi wins" logic :)👍

I dont think it gets any better than having F1 cars(the tandum 2-seaters) wake up the neighborhood. :)
See you all at the track!

I quite like the sound of the engines. The cars come sailing into the corner with a real whoosh, then the turbo kicks in and the cars leave with a real growl.

And as Alan Jones rightly pointed out, it's one less thing the NIMBYs from Save Albert Park can whine about.

I have to say, this year's rookies look a lot stronger than last year's. Kevin Magnussen was very mature, admitting that he felt he still had a lot more to give while McLaren were fine-tuning their set-up, and Kvyat was pretty clear and concise in his feedback out on the circuit. Toro Rosso certainly seem to have made a good choice with him. It's harder to judge Ericsson, since he didn't really get to do much.

Christian Horner on the Grand Prix Breakfast, complaining about engine sounds and complexity, and yet somehow expecting us to believe that Red Bull magically turned things around in two weeks.

? What do you think they did to turn things around then? He said there's a new package for Australia at the beginning of the first Bahrain test.

Red Bull made a new engine map which allows the engine to run reliably and with reasonable performance (in comparison to the older Renault map) this is being used by RBR and STR. However they are not sharing it with Lotus and Caterham who will be provided with an updated Renault map for tomorrow which is likely to be a step below the Milton Keynes version.

That explains why half the Renault cars are running and the other half aren't.

Wow loads of chat here :D

Mikey here, up and ready for FP3 and Quali :D

Who else is up and watching FP3? and how many lucky b:censored: are out there?

Does anyone else like the sound of these power units?

They might not have the same scream and volume to them, but I think they have a nice noise, or is that just me?

I don't think there was rain in an Albert Park race before. Was there? I don't really know.

The turbo vented noise is pretty bad-butt, but the real complaint is thet it's too low.

Rain within 10 mins, I wonder if anyone will risk running given that it may still be dry quali?

@MatheusBond ... oh yes, it's definitely rained there :D

There are, as the whole world knows, two good things about Australia. One is the bit where they filmed The Hobbit, and the other is the Albert Park GP circuit.

And Bathurst, I suppose. And Surfer's Paradise. Adelaide, Isla Fisher. And that Kath'n'Kim joke about "little baby cheeses"...
