2015 Subaru Legacy

I do like how it turned out! It's sad that it exists only as JPEGs, but a facelift could manage the changes if Subaru lurks around GTPlanet for feedback and ideas.

I'm pretty sure I'm clueless at designing a car from scratch, but occasionally I wonder about being in charge of final approval of new car designs at a company, like when I shooped the final Nissan GT-R prototype with the greenhouse from the 2001 concept. :)

They've dramatically improved the interior, gotten rid of the hideous fake aluminum, and made the exterior look less busy.
I bet that 'wood' is more fake than fake aluminium. And I bet that 'improved' interior is still gonna be subpar relative to competition.

I mean, the Impreza isn't all that good looking
The base car does looks pretty bland but I think the Sport hatch and XV look pretty good.
To be honest, I'm surprised how few of the new gen Imprezas I see on the road.

It wouldn't be a Subaru if it didn't have a subpar interior.

:yuck: Reminds me of this:

I've just lost some Subaru pride.

Don't start with this 🤬, Subaru.

To my knowledge they haven't been tinkering with any automated clutch technology, so for the time being it's safe to presume manual gearboxes will stick around for cars like the BRZ/WRX. But I'd been hoping Subaru would be one of the few companies to continue championing the three-pedal manual. This, irritatingly, casts some doubt over that. I wonder if the JDM Legacy will be a different case?

Who cares what it looks like, this is bad news. 👎

The previous one looks better, in my opinion. It might have strange frowns and creases near the headlights, but it's much more exciting to look at. It still makes me want to pore over it a little bit more. The new one doesn't have the same effect on me. My mind just thinks, "Meh." It may have a clean look but it's relatively uninteresting to my eyes.

The old one was a bit slab-sided and slab-faced, for me.

Much prefer the previous one, which was elegantly slim for the time.

Yeah, I prefer the fourth-generation models too. I chose to specifically point out the fifth-generation model as as it's the direct, transitional predecessor of this new one - the evolutionary changes are supposedly more minimal between those two. Speaking of the fourth one would be like talking about a highly different matter - it was released around 2003, after all.

But...that actually got me thinking. They could've sticked with an old styling that was well-received, then continued to develop and put better parts underneath as time passed. They could do facelifts to freshen impressions up, but not a complete redesign of the looks. Volvo kinda did that with the XC90.

Hmm...maybe that could hurt the sales, because many people don't like feeling they're buying something with an outdated design. It also eliminates the possible cases of owners buying another Legacy and dismissing their old ones. Not many people want to keep two cars that look more or less the same, I suppose. I'm not sure if preserving the exterior styling could work so well, after all.

Well, I don't know...

A Hyundai badge would be at home on the grill.

As far as manuals, even the new Liberty Outback (Legacy outside of Oz) diesel is auto. One customer brought in their manual Blitzen wagon and another had a manual 3.0R sedan tuned by STI. The manual owners I speak to, wont drive automatics. And the most manuals I see , are new Impreza and XV owners. I havent seen an auto BR-Z come into the work shop, yet.

Thankfully this is only the Legacy, a car which has always been boring. It's not until you get to the Legacy GT and Outback when they start looking cool.
👍

I don't think they are actual Outbacks, but every single one I see around here(there are one every block in Oregon), whatever trim/version it is, it's that Outback-looking wagon. Maybe they are all Outbacks, I don't know, but I LOVE THEM. Sedan form, which I only recall seeing them in pictures, they look just OK at best. Now, those Legacys from mid-2000's were super nice & super clean.

These are the colours available on the 2015 Legacy:

(IMO the best looking colour for the Legacy, and it's only available in ivory interior )

I saw one here, in real life it's even more boring. Orange is necessary to make up for blandness.

No one makes any "hot-hatch sedans." A Citroën DS3 Racing... Made into a sedan... Would be interesting.

A Legacy which has become another Malimpamaxicamry... Soon, it's only going to have all-wheel drive as a selling feature. No more bonkers Subaru nonsense.

It's become... Logical! This is a nightmare!

They're generic sedan colors. They'll blend in with every other sedan from the past 10 years.

Do you seriously find those colors exciting?
I actually like most of the colours for the 2015 Legacy, but I wouldn't be "raving" about it.

In a way, it still stands out from those cars not only because of the standard All-Wheel Drive, but mostly due to the safety features it has and it makes really good gas mileage for an All-Wheel Drive sedan (not sure if you really are into that stuff...)

But overall, I do get your point. The fact that Subaru axed the 2.5GT in the US and the fact that they really aren't that willing to give us a 2.0GT DIT Legacy kinda sets the point that they are just making the Legacy "join the crowd" over here, sadly.

I don't care about gas mileage. Subaru never used to care. My 2005 gets decent mileage. But it's still a road-going rally car, even if it's only a rally car once or twice a year.

The 2015 Imprezas actually have a vanity engine cover. :yuck: there never were vanity covers before - just another thing to remove when you inevitably need to stop for a service...

And I think it kinda sets the tone for the future. Suby haven't made a WRC monster in a while... National rally, sure.. Nürb 24, sure...

But the cars are becoming more mainstream - which is something I both welcome and despise. I have no problem with increasing popularity, but at the cost of personality? :(

Other than the 2015 WRX & BRZ, the only other Subaru that really stands out from it's lineup is the Forester XT, which has a 2.0L Turbocharged H4.

Why couldn't they just give that engine to the Legacy, I wonder? I really don't see it fit with the Forester in my opinion... I'd rather have a Turbo4 All-Wheel Drive Sedan than an SUV...

I had my 🤬 kicked by one of those at a rallycross event. I'm serious. The Forester is excellent.

The Legacy won overall, though - no, it was not a 2015. Wonder why... :sly:

We beat all of the Hyundai, BMWs, and Audi... By 7 seconds. :D but yet, the N/A Subarus were faster than the STis.

...I'm also entirely confused by the way these things work.

Has almost all the lines of the new WRX. The WRX looks like this Legacy been made a bit more aggressive.

Just test drove the car recently. I'd say it's a really good ride, but I don't know what the people missing the manual and the 2.5GT would say...
