TOYOTA is giving small hatchback shoppers a choice of two distinct styling options for its facelifted Corolla, with either Scion-borrowed United States styling or a more European-derived Auris look both on offer.

The move is part of the Japanese car-makers strategy to attract younger buyers to the brand and follows the introduction of both ZR versions of the outgoing Camry and Corolla, and a sharpened SX variant of the 2015 Camry.

Toyota is not revealing any other details of the new Corolla, which is due to arrive next month, but it is understood the US-look variants will form the entry-level options, with the more traditional Euro variants sitting higher in the range.

Badged the Auris in Europe, the Australian version will be available in either Ascent and Ascent Sport grades, while the American-look Corolla will wear sportier SX and ZR badges.

I would call it the Auris, only in Australia and New Zealand its called the Corolla for marketing reasons.

Remember, the "Levin ZR" is the top of the line variant here but, it doesn't look different. Toyota are tryng to bring that back by doing this with the Corolla.

(Side note) If they somehow reuse the Levin name and apply it to the 86, maybe we see a different nose on that car too.

TOYOTA has treated its Corolla small hatchback to a mid-life refresh with a choice of European or American-inspired styling, revamped interiors and a more frugal powertrain for the 2015 range.

Pricing has also seen a minor shake-up with the top-end ZR reduced by $1000 to $28,990 plus on-road costs, a price freeze for the mid-range SX at $23,490, and while base variants have increased by $300, the entry-level Ascent remains below $20,000 at $19,790.

Output is unchanged for the range-wide 103kW/173Nm 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, but fuel consumption has fallen thanks to a revised induction and dual variable valve system.

When fitted with the standard six-speed manual gearbox, the Corolla uses 0.4 fewer litres per 100km at 6.7L/100km on the official combined cycle, while the optional ($2000) seven-speed Multi-Drive automatic has cut fuel use by 0.5 litres to 6.1L/100km with a revision of its lubrication system.
