* INDYCAR: Congratulations to Dario Franchitti. He won in basically a blowout. It's like a basketball team beating the other team by 10 or more points while the other team fails to close within single digits.
* CHAMP CAR: I'm proud for Robert Doornbos getting his first win. And could you believe Sebastien Bourdais (C-Bass) getting booed for comments he made on the loudspeaker?

Now let me prepare some double debate questions...

John's Debates! Dan Wheldon IndyCar and Doornbos in Champ Car
INDYCAR Is there any chance that a team other than Andretti-Green or Penske CHAMP CAR WORLD SERIES Robert Doornbos won at the beautiful Mont-Tremblant circuit. Which do you think he is more likely to win this year (and why?):

A.) Rookie of the Year
B.) 2007 CCWS Championship
C.) Both titles
D.) neither

In IndyCar it seems Penske have fallen off to #3. At times they have looked a far off number three. The top two are clearly AGR and Ganassi. As far as the CCWS goes I think old Doornbos could win Rookie of the Year and the 2007 Championship, seriously perking the ears of some F1 bosses.

Looks like we have a new rivalry! Sebastien Bourdais vs Robert Doornbos!

20070701P_0054.jpg

Sebastien Bourdais refuses to shake winner Robert Doornbos' hand while Will Power laughs. Bourdais claimed that he could have won, but Doornbos blocked him more than one time.

20070701P_0064.jpg

Robert Doornbos mocks Sebastien Bourdais' poor sportsmanship with a frown.

20070701P_0072.jpg

Robert Doornbos listens to the crowd's applause after they booed Bourdais for his negative comments about the winner.

Robert has earned himself a new fan!

Some of you may have posted in a thread of mine called "Sebastien Bourdais vs. Sebastien Loeb." If we were to judge Bourdais for this low sportsmanship moment, then most of you would probably put Loeb ahead of Bourdais. Now imagine this. Imagine Doornbos (not likely to happen, but just assume for a moment) ends up winning the Champ Car title this year after some time in Formula One. What would some of the F1 talent and names think of Doornbos' success in Champ Car apart from his F1 career?

I still wished I could have seen this race on TV. I love Mont-Tremblant. It's a beautiful circuit. I'd like to see the ALMS race there again much like the ALMS races Mosport (not bashing Mosport. Great racing up there). I even have this track as a download for rFactor (called St. Jovite). Great track. I may have to read if Mont-Tremblant used to host Formula One because the rhythm of the track is a bit like an F1 course.

You may go on...

2007 Toronto GP Race Results
Congratulations to Will Power for winning the 2007 Toronto GP. As for Robert Doornbos (aka Bobby D) vs Sebastien Bourdais, they made contact in the closing laps. Sebastien was taken out and finished 9th. Doornbos managed to get his car restarted. He was able to nurse his car to a 6th place finish, and take the points lead.

2007 Watkins Glen GP Race Results
Congratulations to Scott Dixon for winning the 2007 Watkins Glen GP. A fight also broke out after the race ended!

The SPEED Report started off with hosts, Drew Johnson and Nicole Manske slating the end of the IndyCar GP of Watkins Glen as Fight Night. Sam Hornish Jr. vs. expecting daddy, Tony Kannan. It wasn't a fight like the Pistons/Pacers brawl in 2004 (thank God), but pretty much a shoving match.

John's Debates! IndyCar Road Racing and Champ Car in Canada

[IndyCar Series] Which traditional oval racing series showcases road racing better- the IndyCar Series or NASCAR?
[CCWS] (1) Which driver is more likely to win the championship this year:
A.) Sebastien Bourdais
B.) Robert Doornbos
C.)
D.) neither of the three

(2) This question is not necessarily related. There are three street courses I know of in Canada- Toronto, Trois-Riveres, and Vancouver. Rate the three street courses in order from best to worst. So if you think Vancouver is the best while Toronto is the worst, your order would be: Vancouver, Trois-Riveres, and Toronto. It's not my list. Just a sample. So go for it.

The ChampCar race was really good. Even more so than the IndyCar race. I watched both. Mainly because of the rain, there was a lot of sliding, passing and lots of action in general, very exciting. It was nice to see Will Power win another one and hilarious to see Doornbos run into Seabass.

As for the IndyCar race, I'm sad about what happened to Castroneves, he's been having some bad luck recently. The "incident" after the race was pretty funny too. I liked AJ Foyt's comment on it, don't remember what it was exactly though, but it was pretty funny.

I forgot to mention: I thought the CCWS race at Toronto was awesome. It’s interesting to see that Bourdais seems to use rain as an excuse to cruise and collect, as if there’s too much to lose by pushing in the wet. That said, maybe he’s just not a great driver in the wet, he did have the tail out an awful lot!

2007 Nashville 200 Race Results
Congratulations to Scott Dixon for winning the 2007 Nashville 200.

I didn't see the race that got delayed into Sunday afternoon. I'm happy for Scott Dixon for his win, but I'm double proud of Danica Patrick on getting 3rd place. Love or hate Danica, you have to admit- she's pretty consistent. Maybe her first win will be like some ladder deal. You know... get fourth, then third, then second, then that all-important first win.

John's Debate! - Scott Dixon
This one is simple: will Scott Dixon win the IndyCar championship this year?

Time for a Norwegian to join in the American fun, may I?

Aaaanyway, since I'm recieving Motors TV, I'm following Champcar quite closely. I've got to admit that Doornbos is really a revelation this year, being only a rookie, but he manages to amaze the whole field 👍

For once a Belgian is in the field as well, yay! (I'm from Belgium...) Though he isn't too fast, I enjoy having him in there 👍

Last race I've seen was at Mont-Trembl...and something. What a weather! Kept changing the whole time but Doornbos did an incredible effort there 👍

Looking forward to the next race

Well, I am headed to Mid-Ohio this weekend for both the ALMS race on Saturday and the IndyCar race on Sunday.

Expect a full photo review next week sometime.

If anyone has been to the track before I would appreciate some tips as to where to go for the best photos and views, can I take beer into the infield, best walking path, etc. Is there anything else to do in Lexington, OH when there isn't racing going on?

Good Luck, Have Fun, I'm Jealous. I've heard Mid-Ohio is beautiful like a golf course. From what I've seen on TV, it looks pretty open, like not too many wooded areas to obscure the view.
I was recently at the IndyCar race at Watkins Glen; my first visit to that track. Very nice facility, but it has high guardrails that make viewing difficult at ground level around much of the track.
By the way, I was really impressed with Sam Hornish's run to second place in that race, he was agressive, smooth, and a little crazy. (Kinda like Zanardi)

Now let's merge these two series the way the're supposed to be.

I don't think that Danica is consistent at all. She seems wayward. She seems mentally fragile, and some of her post-race reactions worry me deeply. I don't wish to cause any offence, but to me she doesn't have the mindset for racing. And that's surprising, because she's been at it long enough that you'd think she would have settled down by now.

She's always (and I mean always) blaming others for any incidents she gets caught up in, but it always seems to be her who's bobbling around in the middle of a three-wide at the restart, or suddenly checking up passing lapped traffic.

Maybe it's her spotter that's the problem.

John's Debate! - Scott Dixon
This one is simple: will Scott Dixon win the IndyCar championship this year?

No. Although at least 40% of that is made up of me wanting Dario to win. :) There's a fairly incredible streak going on in IRL at the minute, with Scott & Dario winning pretty much everything, and whilst Scott has now taken three on the bounce, I think that Dario will be able to come back at him quite strongly. Of more interest is the total collapse of Tony Kanaan. With Andretti and Patrick unable to provide any real backup, Dario really needs Tony to get back to the plate. I think it would only take one round of Franchitti-Kanaan-Dixon to put it out of Scott's reach.

I think the only obvious difference is that she is under such a microscope and everything she does and says is reported on and dissected word for word, move for move. I suspect if most of the drivers were given the same amount of attention most would come off looking very much the same way.

She certainly has become more "aggressive" in her after race comments, but who can blame her when before she was being so highly criticized for being too passive in her comments and not standing up for herself... or as some in the media and some fans have said "not acting like a man" :indiff:

Personally I think its important she stand up for herself and letting the other drivers know... *ahem*Dan Weldon*ahem*... they can't push her around and drive like they own the track, and not expect some kind of negative reaction.

That said, there is a fine line between standing up for yourself and acting like a blameless brat. I think Danika is walking that fine line and hopefully she has some people around her to let her know when she has crossed that line.

Danica did knock down a Top 5 at Mid-Ohio. It's her best road course finish. I didn't see her win when Mrs. Patrick was in Toyota Atlantic series.

Here's my thing on Danica. I've supported her because I want her to win and finally shut some people up. It was mentioned on ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption" about when Danica Patrick was trying to pass Ed Carpenter (who was lapped) at Nashville. Deal is... Danica IS under pressure. She has a lot of talent and potential. She has yet to realize it any use it to win. One of the early criticisms of Danica is that she was a lady who signed on with some top-flight teams and performing as well as she can. At least at this point, Danica has had her best finishes for AGR than with Rahal-Letterman. My heart was beating fast when Danica had a chance to catch up with the pack at Texas last month or so. Here's my thing. I'm not ready to say Danica's a flop or a waste of time and money. She can win races. I'm proud just to watch her on television. She's had to take so much flak from media, racing fans, racers themselves... she can't catch a break. Thing is, she doesn't let it get to her head. She's done some of the simplest things to stay competitive. Make starts. Complete most of her races. But as soon as she doesn't win, EVERYONE the world over (generalization) gets on Danica's bad side. The itch that hasn't been scratched was getting the losing monkey off her back. This monkey the size of King Kong. So while people look for any excuse to dislike Danica Patrick much like people try to make low blows and cheap shots against Gran Turismo, I'm still supportive of her. Take a look at this old article I found in my RSS feed to autosport.com:

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/60860

It's why I say that Danica's first win may come after a series of good finishes. I called it as climbing the ladder. It's hopefully a ladder that will lead to daylight rather than someone sawing off the lower parts of the ladder. She can get it done. Question is, when? How? Where? At least it's my view. To each his/her own, you know.

Absolutely, and if GTP will let me, I'll +Rep you for it. There are a few points I disagree with though...

In IRL, there are basically three teams worth a damn, AGR, Penske & Target Chip Ganassi. Danica's in AGR, who have, through Franchitti & Kanaan shown themselves to be championship-leaders who are adept at both strategy and raw speed wins. I think that Dario & Tony are a long way ahead of Danica and Marco, and with the spec-cars, there really isn't anywhere to hide. My contention is that Danica really should be a race-winner by now if she was going to be able to do it.

Whilst I agree that the "ladder to success" route is a proven phenomenon, there are drivers who simply never get above "first of the losers", and having watched Danica, I'm afraid I put her in that place.

Your point (also voiced by Digital-Nitrate) that Danica is maintaining mental control is not one with which I agree. I think that her outbursts to the press about other drivers' treatment of her (particularly Wheldon) seem rather spoilt - a kind of "complaining to teacher" mentality. She's being picked on by the other drivers because she's mentally unstable, not the other way around. I think that her judgement and awareness on-track are lacking (witness her Iowa restart, where she took out three other cars. At mid-Ohio, her inability to control the car caused Kanaan to check up and in the process crash himself and Andretti (that'll be two of her team-mates then). But the thing that really gets me is that almost universally she either blames someone else or shrugs her shoulders with a kind of "Who, me? I'm far too pretty for that" sentiment. Certainly there's quite a lot of huffing and foot-stamping going on that you simply don't see from any of the other drivers.

She can have it one way or the other: she either digs in and keeps up, or she plays the girl card and tools around at the back with Sarah and Milka.

I'd love her to prove everyone wrong. To take her AGR car to the top of the standings. But I have doubts that she's fast enough, and I'm pretty much certain that she does not have the temperament to do it. It's a shame, really.

I only post his full name in the race results.

The drivers put on a great race (for such a narrow street course). Bobby D pulled off a nice pass to take the lead in the closing laps. Now he's just 10 points behind Seabass! :D

Just make it simple and ask this:

John's Debate! (INDYCAR) First to the Line
Who do you think will win a race first anytime soon: Vitor Meira or Jeff Simmons?

I didn't get to see the Champ Car race at San Jose, so I can't comment. I do want to congratulate Richard Doornbos on a job well done. There was some question about who would win the Rookie of the Year, and I don't think Doornbos was mentioned. Doornbos is looking great from what I've seen. Hope the ex-F1 racer can keep it up.

I did not know that. Guess I didn't pay enough attention to the Indy Car results from Mid-Ohio. That is great news for American racing. Glad to see Ryan back in a seat he deserves. Hopefully more American road racers will be getting seats in the IRL decreasing their tendancy to see Indy Racing as a stepping stone to NASCAR. However, having said that old A.J. Allmendinger seemingly used Champ Car as a stepping stone to NASCAR.
