2017 Rallycross Thread. World RX/GRC/national championshipsRally 

Oh, I've loved the series. And I too noted the Facebook fan page changing its name to Global Rallycross. Red Bull was surely a big sponsor for the series. I want to see this series last as long as possible because rallycross is really fun to watch.

GRC released it's schedule on Thursday. DC is off (NOOOOOO!!!!!) and they're finally going to Canada, twice!

Twice, but its just a doubleheader weekend at the same track. Would be nice if they would have specified a province at least. Pretty safe to say its in Ontario or Quebec anyway...

It's probably Trois-Rivières then. Though I wonder, maybe they might use an abbreviated version of the Exhibition Place course from the Honda Indy in Toronto? To switch things up?

I don't think it will be Trois Rivieres. Its a temporary street circuit that they put together for just two weeks per year in August. They already have the biggest rallycross series in the world. I don't think they are gonna shut the city streets down again in June for just 2 days of a smaller race series.

If its an already existing venue, i'm guessing it would be Mosport... ( i hope not, not a good track for spectators IMO). But, most GRC races these days are just held in random parking lots. I'd imagine it will be something like that, but of course its hard to say, and its just TBA Canada, so they may still be negotiating with multiple venues in different provinces to try to get the best deal for the series. No idea though really.

My dream is to have maybe an event around Vancouver, but the fact that the old lands around where the Indy Course used to be (itself the old lands where Expo 86 was) are long gone, replaced by condos, plus the general NIMBYism that is all too common around Vancouver when it comes to big events (Earning it the moniker of a No-Fun City) means it's a pipe dream.

The only other place I could think of that could hold it is the old Edmonton Indy course at the airport.

They can literally hold the race anywhere. I've been to a lot of GRC races that were just at random parking lots. The Linq Casino on the Vegas strip 2014 , track was literally just in the parking lot behind the casino. The race in Vegas in 2015 was in some empty parking lot across the street from the Luxor casino. The race at Dallas last year was in a (very horribly falling apart) parking lot at the State Fairgrounds. You never know where GRC may hold a race. Does not have to be somewhere that a race has ever been held before.

I realize that, but still, in my pipe dream of a Vancouver race, I can't think of many places that could theoretically hold a race track and a complex. Maybe around Rogers Arena and Pacific Boulevard with the Concorde lots where Cirque du Soleli have the big top serving as a main point, but other then that...

You'd be surprised how small and cheezy some of the GRC venues are... Those ones in Vegas were in VERY SMALL areas. They don't need much room. And unfortunately, GRC does not get a very large crowd, so they don't need tons of space for spectators...
The DC and Long Island races were just in parking lot next to a soccer arena and a hockey arena. I'm sure there are plenty of suitable places. If it was at a downtown place, they don't even need to consider fan parking so much, fans can find paid parking lots all around.

If it was a current full time race venue in Canada, I think Circuit ICAR in Quebec would be perfect. I've been there for a couple of NASCAR Canadian Tire Series races, really great venue, flat circuit at the old Mirabel Airport, would be really easy for them to put some dirt down and make a rallycross track.

Watch it be Mosport...But I'd love a doubleheader/partnership with World RX if we get some crossover entries. on top of that, can we get DC and maybe Charlotte back on the schedule in 2018? I'll take those two any day over having to find a way to Atlantic City of all places

Well, it won't be a doubleheader with WRX at the Canada race since they are in different months...
The DC race was awesome, I made it out there once, but Atlantic City was awesome as well, and only about 3 hours from DC. Great town to have it in, lots to do, the boardwalk, casinos, etc... I was pretty happy to see AC back.
For me personally, the closet race is Louisville, with Indy being the second. Not sure which rounds I will make it to, but i'm pretty likely to do Memphis, Louisville, Thompson and Canada. Not sure on my schedule after that..
Does seem that the schedule is much more oval heavy than recently. Thompson at oval track. I assume Seattle will be evergreen again. Highly likely that Memphis and Indianapolis will be at those oval tracks..
I like the temporary tracks they put together better, but i'm sure they will all be great events!
Really weird that GRC changed all of their social media accounts. I wonder if Red Bull is still sponsoring, but scaling back? Putting less money into the series?
Seems like the schedule this year is an easier one for the series. Events like New River had to cost a ton to put together, so i'm not surprised to see it gone...
 
Thompson has a road course as well that uses the oval section, but it's not a traditional roval.

It's silly to not utilize ovals for the series, as they offer seating where you can see the entire track.

Actually, every GRC track I have been to (except Detroit) offered great visibility. I could see at least 90% or so at all of them. Very much unlike a traditional road course.
I forgot that Thompson does have the road course. Will be interesting to see the track configuration for that race.
 
Yeah, I would've though they'd go with the Clio, but there a Focus and a Civic in there as well, so maybe it's a good choice?
 
I'm planning on going to a GRC event and the tickets are on sale. There are two days but I can't seem to find any info on what's on each day.
