2018 Grand Prix Heineken du CanadaFormula 1

So... Stroll spearing into Hartley shortly after the start, Hamilton having a moan at some point in the middle, Vettel wins despite the flag being flown too early + he takes the championship lead.

Anything else in the highlights will be pure fluff, I imagine. :indiff:

It is rumoured that Hartley needs a headscan because he apparently knocked his helmet on the Halo.
The halo kept asking him about his poor finishes.

But in all seriousness, hope he's all good. He seemed fine when leaving the crash.

Who is Nico referring to?

Alonso. It's literally in the tweet.

I did too. I woke up just as Vettel crossed the finish line.

At that point the race was over :D

As per the rules the result has been declared from lap 68, the final laps are null and void. Ricciardio loses his Fastest Lap as a consequence, he set it during the now-void final 3 laps.

As Vettel points it out seems a silly mistake but could have serious consequences as marshals were already celebrating and he was worried that the crowd might come down onto the track. Obviously there's also the issue of a driver backing off thinking the race is over while his opposition doesn't.

Somebody needs firing.

Just Nico being nico . Same as Jacques Villeneuve . Had his 5 minutes of fame and using the last few seconds to slag off the racer to take his crown

He's World Champion and I'm not sure I see Alonso taking his crown in 2018, the only chance he'll get.

Sorry . Just speaking generally
Both Nico and Jacque have taken the stance of criticising drivers (especially younger drivers) for mistakes that they were both guilty of themselves.

Sorry for the double post
Just noticed how much the trees have grown this year , which give an indication of the air displacement as the cars pass

Silly incident with the premature checkered flag. Luckily no one charged the track. 👎

Yeah, it could have been a disaster. And yet F1 tweeted there was no harm done despite Ricciardo lost his fastest lap. A bit unprofessional of them with the chequered flag blunder.

What a damn snooze. However, I will take solace that the top two are now precisely neck and neck, and that's something I can't complain about. I can't remember the last time I nearly fell asleep during the Canadian GP. For shame.

Don't know why F1 are being lighthearted about the flag, it's certainly not funny. All number of bad things could have happened.
Quite true! Passes or accidents or retirements on the last 2 laps could have led to some real anger and recriminations. Celebrities or non-professionals waving the vital flags should be a cause for concern with Liberty, the FIA and the teams, as well as fans and press.

Definitely agree with this. When it comes to race officiating, and above all driver safety, celebrities should not be chosen to perform such duties. As a former flagger volunteer for SCCA events, I wasn't even allowed to wave a flag on my first few go-arounds. I was only allowed to observe and listen in to race control to get a feel for it.

On a side note, despite the driver's credentials, I'll bet Indycar is probably thinking of having a select group of pace car drivers.

I was nearly halfway through watching this race on my DVR when I was getting utterly bored. That's when I checked here and saw the thread was only six pages long.

Suffice it to say that I hit fast forward and didn't stop until the finish.

Probably because the model is Black, has a skin condition and they probably don't want to kick up a stir with Black Twitter by doing or saying anything that would seem like they are throwing her under the bus.

It wasn't her mistake - she isn't a flag marshal.

Assigning celebrities to official duties for the sake of marketing publicity is reckless. It's too much of a distraction if nothing else. Between the early flag, and the wrecked pace car at the Detroit Indycar Grand Prix last week, I think it's time for the FIA to put an end to the practice. Have celebrities involved, but let professionals perform the important tasks.

I agree. Why not involve them in the post-race interviews or awarding the trophies? Imo nobody gives a toss who waves any of the flags as long as they're done at the right time.

As an aside Mrs. Ten asked who the Celeb was and the 15-year-old gravely informed her that it was Winnie Mandela.

While that may be so, his appreciation of this seems spot on.

The top teams already have Diva issues, they're not going to want another one in the paddock. And Alonso is infamous for that.

So yes... I want to see Alonso in a top car, but with Vettel and Hamilton being where they are, I don't see that happening. Not unless RBR drops Max instead of Danny.

Well, I guess this race is basically everything that is wrong with today's F1. Lewis summed it perfectly in his post race interview with Sky F1.

Yes, I said as much at the start of the season so I agree with Lewis. We had some differing results early on due to strategy mix ups after Melbourne, now its just a single file coast home one stop race.

Halfway through watching I just skipped to the end as I knew there wouldn't be any changes or challenges.

Totally missed this, I know who won etc, anything interesting happen?
Hartley got smashed into the wall by Stroll on lap 1 and Hamilton got jumped in the pits by Ricciardo, I don't even remember seeing a pass in the race.
