I find it ironic that the two circuits wanting to replace the Coronavirus GP are in North Italy, which is the first European country to be quarantining towns because of the virus too...
Probably by the end of next week all Italy (and whole Europe vast land?) will face the same challenges as e.g. north Italy now. And with all the info available until now China GP will be postponed and not replaced

Forgot to attach the source (in Dutch) https://www.gpupdate.net/nl/f1-nieuws/377134/formule-1-kalender-verder-in-het-nauw-door-coronavirus/

In fairness they did offer before their own outbreak, as I understand it. Whatever happens I think sports series around the world are going to face massive disruption in 2020, certainly for the first half of the year at least.

Banking at Zandvoort looking pretty good 👍

Edit: just noticed there’s no catch fencing above the banking, which seems odd. I’m guessing/hoping it will be installed soon.

At 4PM the renewed Zandvoort will be officialy opened. And a special guest for the Arie Luyendijk curve!
ALso the first F1 car (an older RedBull (RB8) - not the RB16 cause that's not allowed) will do some laps. Happy Max

pics and movies will follow later.

edit: first F1 car, driver Max, through the Arie Luyendyk curve with the live presence of Arie himself.

And the legend arrives and look who opens the door.

Not a lot of passing opportunities...

True, but there are a lot of opportunities to turn a small mistake into a big mistake.
I love circuits like this because they're high pressure and high speed. Passing will be forceful, and mistakes won't always be saved by large runoffs - *cough* French GP.

It looks like it requires the momentum and concentration of a Suzuka but has the punishment of an old school track for any mistakes... So even if it's low on passing, I dig it. 👍

Aleady looking forward to turn 1 right after the start.
Indeed it's still a narrow track. Yesterday someone said it has to do with elbows and balls of steel.
We'll see in May (hopefully...)

No races will be held in countries whose coronavirus policies stop any F1 team from entering. BBC.

EDIT: No World Championship races... thanks to @noshog for pointing that out.

The Bahrain GP will be held behind closed doors.

Better than cancelling/postponing the race at least, but still...

I'm glad they didn't just cancel it but this sure will be a bit weird to watch with the grandstand completely empty. Wonder what the after race celebration will be like!

I think F1 should get creative with this. Given the only reason we have the podium up above the pit lane is so that the fans can see, why not host the podium in parc ferme in front of the cars?

The fencing is underway from the US of A. I learned that today.

360 degrees Zandvoort.
Good old Joske Verstappen and legend Jan Lammers driving a lap around the renewed Zandvoort. And Jos did not, I repeat did not park in the gravel this time ;)

I see there was a colossal crash during the very first official race on the new Zandvoort circuit, with a car ending up upside down and over the crash barriers :ill:

That crashed Porsche was hit and then launched by another Porsche. We were told that during the upcoming F1 race high fences will be placed. This Porsche race came too early for that...Luckily the driver is ok the car though
