2020 Touring Car discussion (TCR, BTCC etc.)Touring Cars

Hopefully, races are in full on YouTube. The cars are looking real nice. That back shot of the Hyundai is sweet. Still love the Q50. Half wish it had the scheme of that Hyundai.

When your favourite touring car driver follows NASCAR too...

I take it the Stock Light are a One Make. I think the normal Stock cars have multiple manufacturers. Unless that's changed.

Turkington really looking like he's picked up where he left off from last year, after he topped the two practice sessions as well. The new Exceler8 Hyundai I30's looked fantastic, and Sutton in P3 with the Infiniti Q50 looks very promising for tomorrow.

After a fascinating and action packed race 1, it's safe to say the BTCC is back for sure. Dan Cammish and Team Dynamics take the spoils for race 1 in the FK8 Honda Civic, with Turkington 2nd for WSR BMW, and Rory Butcher a fantastic 3rd for Motorbase and the new Focus ST. Sutton recovered to 14th and 2 pts after becoming victim the classic concertina bunch up, spinning out of 2nd place.

Great to see one of the Hyundais picking up a top 10 finish, too. Unlucky for Sutton, but the fastest lap he set at the end cements his potential race pace in the Infiniti.

Minis coming up shortly...

The biggest problem for that Infiniti is Suttons ego. He's good don't get me wront but he isn't as good as he likes to think he is and everything is always someone elses fault so he drives too hot headed.

Absolutely, the Hyundais looked fantastic, and appear to be on pace straight away, unlucky for Proctor with the failure though. The Infiniti is also there from the get go in Suttons hands, and no doubt as Moffat gets to grips more with RWD, he'll be up there too. I do think that Sutton can be a bit aggressive at times, mainly with his defending, which can be frustrating to see with his ability. If he just takes a step back and bides his time with certain moves, it pays off, rather than throwing good results away.

Mini's looked fantastic too, very much the right replacement for the defunct Clio Cup, they will be great to watch this year.

The Minis were definitely entertaining. Seems like a stronger grid. Clio Cup isn't defunct though, its moved to the British GT support package, with the new Gen 5 car.

Ah I stand corrected then my bad, I had the impression that it was no more, shows I was a bit slow on the news there :boggled:. Good to hear it's still around though, an entertaining and key championship like the Clio Cup would be a loss to the UK Motorsport scene if it was to go.

With Smiley starting P1 for the reverse grid in the Hyundai, this will be a perfect opportunity to see it's pace at the front in free air, though given it will be race 3, who knows. Will be interesting if Sutton can continue his pace from race 2, and salvage a solid race 3 result to make up for the 1st race. Providing he can keep his nose clean.

Still just so happy to have the BTCC back after 7months+ really. And with F1 and the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship on this weekend, it's quite the bumper weekend of Motorsport, which has been missed.

Missed the first 5 laps, but what a cracking fight at the front! Thrilled to see the Hyundai holding its own especially considering where Excelr8 were last year.

BTCC is back with a bang!

Also, is Sutton's win technically the first for a Nissan-built car since 2000?

The BTCC is certainly back, and with only 1 week until the next round at Brands HP, there's not long to wait either.

As the final race of the day, another determined drive by Sutton to claim that Infiniti's 1st BTCC win, with some fantastic racing along the way. Don't think I've ever seen 3 cars successfully go 3-wide through Coppice, but Sutton, Morgan and Ollie Jackson managed it. Smiley did a fantastic job to hold onto that 2nd place, who along with Jackson's P5 in the Focus, rounds off a great weekend for new cars. Despite only finishing P10, Turkington, the all-rounder that he is, leaves this weekend on top of the Championship, 6 points ahead.

Bring on next weekend 👍.
