Had a very clean quali in the AMG. A bit cautious, but I made sure to hit my braking markers and be patient and smooth. Put myself on pole surprisingly.

Full tank and cold tires at the start of the race made me even more nervous/cautious. Overly cautious actually. Didn't feel at one with the car and a Japanese driver starting in 3rd in an NSX had passed another Japanese driver in a Subaru and had caught up to me a couple laps in. I was tensing up too much and for some reason my car decided it wanted to understeer through Blanchimont for no apparent reason.
Went wide and copped a 0.5 second penalty for losing time. Great.
I covered the inside line into the chicane but this allowed the Japanese driver behind to get a better run out of it.
He blocked passed me into the hairpin as I set myself up to go back underneath him on the way out. But he parked it on the apex. Well played sir.

I thought he was then going to run away from me because he seemed to have the better pace at the start of the race. But I was able to keep the pressure on him for a good majority of the race. Right on his tail but always giving him space. So much so that I felt he was slowing me down. The Subaru driver was also catching us and I was soon keeping an eye on him my mirrors to while trying to find a way pass the NSX. The NSX just had such better traction coming out of the corners that there was not much I could do but follow and wait for a mistake.

Come lap 10 and I got a good run through Raidillon and had the speed to take the NSX down the straight. I motioned left and the driver jinxed left. I had him where I wanted and pulled right to take him on the inside. He jinxed right and ran me onto the grass.
The red mist entered and a few thoughts entered my mind to just ram him off into Les Combs. But I decided to take the high road. Unsure if that was the correct decision.

This undid my rhythm a little and i made a little mistake to lose his tail just slightly and suddenly I had to defend from the Subaru.

Composed myself for the final lap and went hell for leather and blitzed a fastest lap down into a low 45sec. Bringing home a hard fought 2nd but knowing 1st could have/should have been mine. Oh well. Next time I know not to trust that driver.

Here is the incident. What do others think of it?

Weaving like that is literally the only thing the online etiquette videos specifically say you can't do (everything else is covered with "don't do anything that makes you look bad").

They were weaving and deliberately blocking which is very much dirty driving.

Well done for taking the high road 👍

My opinion is that this is the same as brake checking. Definitely dirty.

Top room, 343 points with Igor Fraga on pole. Door number 16. Qualify 14th, didn't have a great lap, but I was 2.1 seconds behind 13th, so even if I had done my fastest lap ever I wouldn't have started any further forward.

Kept my gap to the RXV in front of me at the start and was pulling ahead of the other Supra behind, but had a half spin on the 2nd lap that dropped back a position. I managed to stick with him and he went wide at the Bus Stop so I could get alongside, but the McLaren F1 behind took the opportunity to take the position from me, and I couldnt get enough traction to complete the pass on the Supra.

Eventually got the McLaren pretty easily, then got the Supra (twice, of course, penalties) and pulled away. Spent the entire second half of the race by myself, falling further behind 13th, pulling away from 15th. Finally managed to start setting good consistent laps near my normal time in the final third of the race. Took everything to not get bored or distracted and throw it away.

Finished 1 minute 21 seconds behind, right where I started, 14th. No other car behind me finished the race. About 25 seconds behind 13th. My fastest lap, a 2:46.1, was two seconds slower than the fastest lap of every car ahead of me.

I earned about 147 points, which gained me about 30 points in the championship. I'd like to gain more but why bother going again? It is impossible for me to do anything competitive with the Supra in this top tier, the most I can do is throw it away and do worse. The difference between the front and rear of the top tier room is night and day.

Hi!! Good to see you here. I was that McLaren F1on my Alt account... was struggling massively for traction with it :-(, but I was pretty happy to be part of the top split.... and not come last

Thanks for overtaking cleanly. That other Supra punted me to the shadow realm, unfortunately.

Bathurst Gr4 and Tokyo (F1 payoff) next... my best chances to increase the current 363pts that I have. Hopefully enough to get into Top200...

My personal stance on weaving is that you can weave back and forth to try and break slipstream IF the car behind is not close enough to get alongside.

If the car behind is able to get alongside, you can make ONE move to defend your position. If you decide to move back after moving to defend (i.e Move from left side to right side to defend, then move back to left side), you must leave a car’s width to let him through.

That move he pulled on you was dirty.

Here is the incident. What do others think of it?

Yeah naughty that was. When you first move towards the outside his move is a bit late but he's fine to move across in that situation, when you switch back inside he should be leaving you room. His first move is so clearly a reactive move to block you off from going on the outside that any move back across the track as you switch sides is 100% dirty

I like a good switcheroo...

YEsterday at SPA under rain , Igor frago was unbeatable with his lambo. He race a crazy time 35.20" , 2.42" laps . Really amazing.
Bonelli too , did a great 35.30" yesterday , a very hard task with the mercedes that have a lot less traction than others MR cars under rain.

I didn't check others regions , but americas manufacturer last night was really great. Congratulation to all.

2021 FIA Manu Exhibition Round 4 - Spa in the Wet GR3

Slot 1 - A/A+ Lobby, Door 16
Well, I love Spa and as someone who has to autocross IRL in the rain I feel like the GTS physics is a bit on the icey side...but, its the same for everyone so I hopped in the Aston and sent it. My qualifying was trash. I just pushed too hard after getting passed by the eventual top qualifier which dropped me all the way to P16 to start. Looking at the final qualy times, I should have been around p4 or so. BUT, coulda shoulda woulda. Time to put your big boy pants on and set some lap times...it didn't take long for folks to make mistakes and I was set up well early on to do well. However, I had MKM behind me and he did MKM things. Race ruined. So, on to race 2...

Slot 2 - A/A+ Lobby Door 18
As the night goes on and folks drop out of this not well attended race, I will continue to be paired with higher ranked A+ drivers as apparently I was one of the few A drivers participating. I was paired up in the lobby with a familiar GTP name @Jwptexas who absolutely slayed it in qualifying. Had like a 2:44 or low 2:45 (can't remember but it was a great lap). I ran my best qualifier that I've had (practice lobbies included) with at 2:47.0xx. However, this time my good qualifying was only good for p12. I figured if I stayed clean, I could probably pick up at least 3 or 4 positions so I put my head down and got to it. This lobby had concentration on high as fewer mistakes were being made. I slowly worked up to p10 then got smashed in LaSource (Turn 1). Back to p13. Just no luck tonight. I didn't make any mistakes or penalties in 26 laps in the rain but was unable to keep from getting hit from behind.

Hung up my driving gloves and started cutting video. Really enjoyed the racing, just disappointed in the results. I missed an opportunity for a good result. Kinda want that 1st race back...grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Round 4 of the Manufacturer’s Cup at Spa in the Gr 3 Jaguar

Slot 1
Door 4
Lobby DR half A+ half A
Q9
P9
162 points and a CRB

Mission accomplished in keeping it on track! I just wasn’t particularly fast doing it. The FIA points won’t count, but I didn’t lose DR so with the experience gained racing in the rain I’ll call it a net positive result.

I was surprised and disappointed to see a dirty driver amongst us in a Mazda. I tried a couple passes, but after blocking on Kemmel and side swiping after Blanchimont I backed off. I wish I could have warned the guy that passed me to beware. He got punted by the dirtbag at the bus stop. Based on the finishing positions and the post race chat, revenge was served, but why even bring that energy to such a difficult combo? Definitely a one and done after that.

I’m really looking forward to Bathurst. That is the track where I earned my A+ and I intend to show why in this race. 2:11.3xx in my first practice session and my optimal is in the 2:10’s. I want to catch an alien in FP and race goal is a podium. Let’s see how it goes!

Seems my screenshot timing matched the camera flash. I got ghosted.

Apparently we were in the same lobby. Didn't realize you were on GTP. Probably be awhile before we race again looking at our door numbers. Good job on the top 10 finish.

Hi all!

Names ChewParker. I have been lurking these FIA forums for a bit and have been enjoying your race stories and banter. Some of you Aussies may have raced against me already too.

I'm slowly improving my DR. Just hit 37k last night at Spa in the wet. I don't get much free time during the week. I really only have Saturday night free and I try to limit myself to one slot. Unless I get disconnected or have an abysmal performance (has only happened once so far)
So I basically watch a mistah MCA FIA video. Decide the strategy on his recommendation and do 20 - 30min free practice before a race. So far he has been absolutely spot on. I wouldn't be doing these races if he wasn't posting his videos. I just don't have the time to test all the pit stop/car variables. Last nights race made it a little easier in regards to not needing to worry about tires or fuel. But the wet weather is hectic. Was sweating hard in that race just keeping the my AMG on the road.

Anyway, I feel I'm getting close to the DR that I should be at. The drivers are getting really competitive. Its just been a little slow with only driving on Saturday nights. My talent can only take me so far before I hit a wall where hours upon hours of practice is needed to compete with the big boys higher up.

I got a few things to say about my spa race in another post once my video uploads. Just thought I'd finally say hi.

Cheers
What's your PSN ID... you're not "Chewtoy" are you? I've been matched with that PSN a ton since starting the game over a year ago. In any case, welcome. This is the place to be!

:gtpflag:

(edit, nvm... I saw your other post with your PSN ID on the replay... greetings, from the US to Australia... cheers)

This was the first time (well this was the second race) i race in the Heavy rain and i don't think i want to that again -_- . by the end i was sore all over from being so stiff tip toe around Spa. The goal was to make it to the checkered flag without going for a spin well...

for someone who couldn't complete a lap without spinning in the rain before this Round. I think i did the alright. But i think i was way too cautious haha. part from that one incident, I am satisfy with this result

Nice to meet you! I’ve only dabbled in FIA in the past, but I’m gearing up for the full season this year. So I have been in the Daily Race thread a lot more than this one in the past.

Sorry you had bad luck. You definitely had more pace than me. I’m sure I’ll see you again before too long.

Super cool that you run autocross. I just got started last month with my first event and there will definitely be more. I don’t think I’m ready to run in the rain, though. Being out on track picking up cones sounds especially scary.

Next Nation GR1 race , Blue Moon Bay Speedway - Central B , i think i'll use the PEUGEOT 908 HDI 2010 . Tested today.
13 laps on soft 16 on medium , laping 40:8xxx regular on both compounds. Even some sub 40:000" seconds whith draft.

Edit: brake balance -5
.

Nice, another autocrosser! ITs what got me back into Gran Turismo (completed GT1 and 2 then had kids). A guy was running with a replica GT number magnet on the side of his Subaru. We go to talking and next thing you know a group of us from the CENLA SCCA region were racing online. Then one day I tried the FIAs and have been hooked since. Just picked up a 2006 Cooper S to run next weekend in D Street, needs a little work still but can't wait. Car is a hoot to drive. Anyway, hope to see you in a lobby soon!

After all the complaining and the good advise from you I decided to give it a try. Did Slot 1 with the lambo on tcs2 (managed to lap on tcs0 and it was faster but much more error prone so tried to avoid mistakes) I was paired with @C_Raccoon23

My qualy time would have been enough to be somewhere between P7 to P10 but there was a guy on an Aston who was penalized, came off track, returned in front of me before the stadium S and in the middle of it stood on his brakes. I tapped him from the back and send him to the gravel... So i passed but there was a yellow flag, +3 sec for me. Ended up starting P16 and with one new enemy, because even when he was already penalized and his lap was useless he got mad at me.
Started with caution and a Porsche made a move in the chicane, when we brake for T1 I got hitted from behind by the same guy I had the qualy incident with. Zen mode on... P20 for me, kept going. He does eau rouge in an awful way, so I got side by side on the exit and he puts me on the wall on purpose... so that was enough. After les combes, as we braked for the downhill right hander I pushed him wide and started racing properly. No more incidents and no need to complaint about anyone else, there was a bunch of drivers I got to overtake clean and everyone was being cautious, enjoyed the rest of the race for a final P12

Unfortunately got no chance to do another spot so that was it. At least I came back to this beautiful game after some months out due to a problem with my ISP and enjoyed some good racing.

It was good seeing you out on the track as well even if I was having troubles  looking like you may be the class of the field come Tokyo with that F1 looking forward to that match up against the GT for season finale

Lovely highlight with the GT wrecking on the thumbnail  it was good seeing you it's been forever! Either you're finally climbing out of that hole from DR reset or I'm getting worse :D hopefully we'll be racing in the same lobbies again more frequently. Still kicking myself for not taking the win that race!

Since I'm skipping Bathurst I've already started running some practice for Tokyo but looks like another tire saving race with fuel not much to worry about. Mediums no stop for 15 laps with Softs for qualifying.

That's a shame. Guess you can't please everyone.

But I tend to enjoy races that employ some form of pit strategy or fuel saving, over tyre management races.

Managing tyres is a great in game skill. But not the most exciting or fun type of racing. I know opinions on that may differ though.

Either way. I'll give both Bathurst and Tokyo a shot.

I agree with you. I like the strategies that come with tire choice and when to pit. If Tokyo is a tire-saver then that means 5 out of 6 races in this exhibition season are no-stoppers with the exception being Interlagos which was a required 2 stop. It would seem that the change to pit times in the last update was less about strategizing pit stops and more about discouraging them in favor of tire saving.

I'd have to agree with you there, I enjoyed the different pit strategies and everyone on different pit windows compared to these no stop races where tirewear is an issue. I have hard enough time as it is saving tires being in the Ford & DS4 so I'm usually struggling late in the race.

I'd love to race Bathurst but I've already got my points locked in for this season and would like to keep my DR where it's at since I believe the Ford will be a slight META at Tokyo and think I can end the season with a win and my highest total ever(Fingers crossed)

For what it's worth pitstop at Tokyo is around 21 seconds. I'm running high 56s early on then 57s rest of the race up until final couple of laps. I'm running low 55s on Softs.
