I have not been active for a while due to health issues, holiday, and a lot of extra shfts at work. Just did not have the time or energy to play.

but back in time for the final round at Fuji coming Saturday. I have done some testing in the Gr4 Citroen and can do two ten laps stints on the softs, but only when I take real good care of the tyres. So will likely start on softs and do the 10 laps and then go to softs again for the next 10. In case I could not do proper tyre management due to whatever reason I could always switch to mediums on lap 8 or 9.
Really need to start on the softs anyway as the lack of top speed makes the Citroen vulnerable on the opening laps.

Anyone else already decided on strategy?

Any strategy for tomorrow’s Nations event? Looks like fun. I’m thinking a handling car….either the beetle, 4C, or the Scooby

Haven’t tested anything, but the 4C sounds like a good option. I’m thinking maybe the WRX-EVO Mother Chassis twins will be the ones to use. Real pests those two. What works for one, doesn’t mean it’ll work others. I’ll be in the Manu AMG GT.

I did a 1 stop Softs BB+4 test and a no stop Mediums BB +5 test and both were very similar times. Difference being on the nonstop, you have to start braking for turn 1 at the pit lane entrance to get the car stopped in time on the final laps

I’ll probably do 1 stop just to avoid the craziness of the last laps on the no stop.

Both tyres are mandatory so you have to stop anyway

Edit: scratch that, thought you meant Nations
I think the no stop is only better in certain cars from what I've heard

Im cool with that one. AMG was stable for this race. 15th to 12th. Forgot it was grid start. Was cautious, but some at the back were pushing and shoving a bit.

Saw gtp friendlies and a few more regulars. Once I survived half the lap, pitted for RS. No fuel at 93%.
Ran as hard as I could. Fuel lasted a further 11 laps. Could have gone one more, but my times dropped from 1:21s to 1:23s. Pitted Lap 12.

Another set of RS and purposely overfilled to 7 laps of fuel. Pushed and got a penalty at the exit of the corkscrew. Pushed some more and I was able to be close to P11 at the finish.

A few in the top 10 went off at the end and someone pitted on the final lap. Nations is done. One more race and I'm ready for GT7. Have fun.

Good work by TP and Dredge, to finish on the podium and in the top ten, respectively

Ran Nations slot 1 with @05XR8. Door 6 of 18 in the WRX.

Qualified 9th and got a good start on the mediums but there was some serious pushing and shoving through the first lap. I just let people go and concentrated on staying on the black stuff. By the end of lap 1 I was around p14. Ran nice and smooth and fuel saved for the first stint and slowly worked my way up as people went off at the various black spots. Pitted in p10 on lap 7 took softs and a splash of fuel and rejoined in p16. Ran the next few laps virtually clear and as others pitted I gained spots. Another WRX went past on about lap 12 but by lap 13 I was in P8. Held a constant gap between p7 and p9 for a couple of laps before the WRX in p7 ran wide at the left hander before the corkscrew and hit the wall.
The last 2 laps were then about keeping it straight and making sure P8 wasn’t taking chunks of time off me.

Crossed the line with 0% fuel in p7.

Satisfied with the result, but the 132 points won’t count. A word of caution to those going later, lap 1 is all about survival. The barging idiots will be their own undoing later on.

One and done.

Test a few cars I like and they were all equally as bad in my hands, so going for the FT-1 and I'm sure it's best on fuel and tyres aren't too bad.
Every car is sporting a blue flag with a union jack so that's a hopeful start, not saying that Asians are dirty but seem to get more from there who drive like it's Mario Kart than from anywhere else. Came out last for quali as 2 clean laps will be better than fighting and my first lap was about 0.5 slower than my practice so I'm happy anyway and it gets me 2nd so well chuffed. Don't like going softs first, but I'm 2nd????????? Well 2nd corner got punted so glad I started on meds. ****** race, went off twice at the corkscrew, 1st avoid some idiot who basically stopped and the 2nd all my fault. Both times car didn't reset so lost loads of time. managed to get 9th, from basically 19th isn't too bad, but the guy who ruined my race won and he was over a second slower than 4 of us so I recon he either shoved others or got lucky.

Botched qualifying as well, started 16th out of 17. In OCE Slot 1, 2nd Split. Forgot to put on TC for the start and went nowhere off the line, so had to settle for slowly making my way through the field. Eventually got up to 10th, trying to get past @ShiftingGears when someone (same guy as below) decided to run me right off the track at the exit of Turn 1. Idiot...
until someone got upset at getting penalised when they tried to pass me off track on lap 15, then took me out twice.
After that incident between Shifting and the other guy, I was in 9th. Had an awesome battle with @ClanFever on the last lap - he sent it up the inside at the Corkscrew, then I pulled a cutback at Rainey Curve, ran around the outside at T10, then held the inside into the hairpin. I got a better exit and won the drag race to the line - what a way to close out the season! Only 150 points but I'm not complaining, it was a fantastic race.

Also, aside from a certain someone's antics, the race was incredibly clean. We all made it through the first lap without a single incident - even turn one was fine! I've never seen such good driving in FIA. Second split in Oceania is seriously the place to be.

Sidenote, @LeGeNd-1 - loved the Ridge Racer livery! Great taste, haha.

Well I qualified a lowly 9th and was in the same lobby as @LVS_1986.

Started P9 on mediums, had a mega lap 1 and worked my way up to 3rd. Stopped lap 5 for soft tyres and undercut my way into 2nd. Was briefly passed and dropped into 4th but the Subaru and Porsche ahead fought way to hard and I went up to 2nd on the penultimate lap.

Same here. I'm tired of being shark bait for Top Split. Good thing we'll be able to start from scratch next year (...right?)!
I'd assume so haha

My race was just a series of unfortunate events. Qualified P10 with a decent lap but got pushed into a penalty right at the start but because it was such a farce of a lap 1 I only lost 2 positions. Got undercut by a load of people (I guess I just didn't want to risk too much) and then got caught up in someone else's crash near the end. That was somehow still P12 but yeah I guess was a due a bad race

Felt sorry for you after that Turn 4 smash, but glad that you got a good qualifying position. That penalty at the start was especially unfortunate.

Seems like this round has been tough for a lot of us so far....

So 1st Euro go and sticking with the FT-1 as it feels good here, another decent quali from the back and I'm 4th from D 10. Still going to start on meds, but know I can run softs 10 laps or even risk 11 depending on situation when pitting. Well that was a new low, got shoved off before the first corner, I got him name and any race I see him in I'll just be going for him. Others had problems with him, but it's really PD we should be angry with, allowing someone like that to have an S rating is absolutely ridiculous. Had issues with another couple of players and came 18th. Joke of a race, but got to go again or just delete.

18:20 (6th to claim a new points score)
Qualified 8th with 2 scruffy laps. However the start goes horribly wrong. A WRX ahead jumps the start and in the close confines of Leguna the inevitable happens.
What follows is a chaotic opening lap followed by a what most likely is a clumsy move at my expense at Andretti.

At the back and it is a case of try and catch up to the pack and hopefully gain from the rest of the chaos. Of course it all calms down after that. With spins and a contra strategy I make my way back up to 13th. Mission failed. Not my fault and I know I can do better.

19:40 (6th to claim a new points score)
Was 3rd after the 1st qualy lap. However I go blue in the first 2 sectors by enough to grab pole. I cross the line and purple bookends my time. Somehow I cross the line with a couple of seconds to spare so I take it easy on the third lap and hope I stay there. I do. At least this time I may be able to avoid some carnage.
I light watch and get going a second to late and the WRX in 2nd pinches the lead. I am quicker though but they defend very well. Another WRX keeps close vigil behind. Eventually I make a big enough mistake to let them through. I honestly keep glancing the 🤬 sausages! No matter we have a good gap to those behind. I decide to pit at the end of lap 11 as I am not sure I can make it the extra lap. Then I glance the sausage at Rainey! The car slides 1 way. I coax it around but the tank slapper is on. I head straight for the outer wall. No reset so I have to reverse back onto the track. I must have lost some 20 seconds here. My 6 lap hard stint is painful. The car is just not up to it and I lose a position to a contra runner. I do gain one off a spinner. 6th is ahead like a carrot for me to chase. A BS penalty at the Corkscrew on the penultimate lap ends any chance of it and I cross the line 8th with another mission failed. In a way I can only blame myself for this one. A decent top 5 finish was in my hands and I let it go. Being the racing driver I am pretending to be I blamed the car for tankslapping at the wrong moment.

Of all the tweaks PD made to the penalty system, why did they never update the game to actually ghost cars that jump the start? The way it's set up now, it largely nullifies the time penalty they give you because you'll inevitably be slammed into and the pinball physics will allow you to make up most of the time you lost from the game preventing you from accelerating...

Well that was fun! Two complete disasters from a points perspective for me, but some really good racing, particularly in our Oceania split 2 race at 6pm. I completely butchered qualifying, did a high 1m21 and qualified around 13th I think it was. The highlight for me was how respectful and clean everyone was in the first few laps (especially compared to the loose cannonry I've seen in the Manufacturers cup lately). I made a couple of small mistakes early, but settled into a nice rhythm behind gtp_greatness until a spin ended my chances for a respectable finish.
Decided to do the 9pm slot as well.... a much better qualifying lap (1.20.5) had me 4th on the grid. Had a nice close battle with the rest of the top 4, but maybe pushed it a lap too far on the softs....ran wide and spun on the high speed left before the corkscrew, and spun again re entering the track. What a muppet.
Sad conclusion to my first nations cup season, but I had a lot of fun and am really looking forward to the next one.

In other news, my sim rig, wheel and pedals should arrive next week! So excited!! No more battling with the controller!

I won't be long. I needed a 4th race with 200+ points to be happy. I did 4 tries, with the following results :

195 (8th)
196 (8th)
196 (7th)
0 (DNF after being pushed wide on purpose twice while battling for 5th, back on track in 15th... I had enough haha)

Not the way I wanted the season to end, but there is a lot of things I need to figure out in the way I approach the whole competition thing. I'm just baaad :P

Frustrating night for me at Laguna with the WRX, being wiped out in T1 on both slots I raced... :nervous:

CSA Slot 3, door #19 of a 273-point lobby which I assume was Split 2, we were just 4 A-rated drivers, the rest being A+ rated. Too high lobby for me, one of the highest I've been in, but I managed to get a good qualy lap in and qualify P10, which I was happy with.

Had a good start, left a lot of space into T1, but both myself and a Brazilian were pit manouvered by a fellow Argentinian who understeered out of the corner, spinning both of us. I had clean racing with that guy in the past so I'm sure it wasn't on purpose, but once I got back facing in the right direction, I was trailing everyone by 10 seconds. From there, I recovered some places from drivers making mistakes to finish P14. Definitely think a top 8 was possible, which in that strength of field, would have meant one of my best scores ever. Wasn't to be. :guilty:

CSA Slot 4, door #5 on a 203-point lobby. Bad last sector on my qualy lap left me P5 on the grid, that mistake costing me pole unfortunately.

Another good start off the line, up to 4th. This time I was on the outside, left space for a couple cars on the inside, but was suddenly hit hard and pushed to the gravel. Wasn't spun around this time, but was again down in last place by the time I exited the gravel. :banghead: It was all caused by a dirty driver from Costa Rica (his name ending in "kart", in case someone here knows him), who braked 30m later than anyone else, decided to cut the corner and smashed into the car on my inside... More on him later...

There was so much chaos, people hitting each other and making mistakes on those first laps, that I climbed from 19th to 9th by the end of lap 3 while being on mediums and fuel saving... Went for an undercut at the end of lap 5, switched to softs and started to push.

Undercut worked very well, was up to 3rd by the time everyone pitted, and right behind P2. Unfortunately, the same dirty driver who caused the start crash, who did 9 laps on mediums, exited just behind me on 4-lap fresher softs than mine. He immediately went for a move into Turn 5, missing the apex by a full car width and just bumping me out of the way. He then proceeded to twice do exactly the same with the guy right ahead of us in 2nd. And unfortunately, there was no karma, dirty guy finished 2nd just ahead of us. I had a few attempts at the guy ahead, but I ran out of tyres and didn't manage to overtake, finished right behind in P4. I don't think the win was possible, but I would have comfortably had 2nd if not for the dirty guy...

Frustrating, as I had good pace and drove good races, but was taken out and had to recover from last on both slots... Still managed to pick up an ok score that counts for my total, so decided not to risk racing the final slot.

Not sure if I'll be able to race Manu at Fuji, or whether this was the end of my season. But unless they bring back the penalty system, this was my final season on GTS. And I'm not planning to buy GT7 until I see that is fixed either...

Nations North America
Slot 1 - Laguna
Door 8, A/S Lobby

This may have been a win for me had I qualified on Softs instead of mediums, LOL. TURRIBLE. Instead I look down half way through my 2nd hot lap and I'm like, DOH! Started 12th, which put me in the middle of the mayhem. Got shoved onto the dirt Lap1 Turn1, dropping me back to p16. Work back up to p14 then a particular mario brother who's name starts with L runs me off track at turn 3 on lap 3 or so. I was in front but like a fool left space on the inside thinking we'd just go through the turn. Nope. Back to p17 or so. But, I'm like, eh...just save fuel and get the undercut, race isn't over. Then me and Beetle get together on the last corner, he went all Lewis Hamilton, I went all Verstappen. So, in p15.

Then a certain driver for Dodge gets off track somehow and I end up in front of him. Well, not shocking...he rams me off at the last corner. I'm sure he'd say I was an idiot for not pulling over, getting out of the car, and laying down the red carpet to let him pass. I mean, I wasn't blocking, all he had to do was go down the inside and break a bit later...oh yeah, he tried that and overshot the corner on the previous lap putting himself behind me again. My fault he can't pass, of course. Anyway, Fell back to p18 but manage to work my way back up towards the front. I could've gotten revenge on the mad karen mush for brains on the last turn but decided against it. Finish p11 and go again.

Nations North America
Slot 2 - Laguna
Door 15, A+/A/S Lobby

This time I qualify on softs and put myself in P7 to start. Wasn't a good qualy time, but my pace is ok so I wasn't too worried about it. Make it through T1 alive and follow p5 and p4 for a few laps. Saved some fuel and tires. Then the two in front of me started to battle. One went off track so I Greddy Passed him. Then the other went off track and Greddy passed him. Started dropping faster laps and was catching p2. Pitted lap 10, had 23% fuel, not the best but not terrible. Came out and put in a quick out lap. P2 was 3 seconds up before I pitted and he came out right in front of me. He looked uncomfortable on the Mediums and made a mistake on Turn 4, the up hill left. I went to his inside and held on tight for turn 5. Made the move and pulled away. He made a run back on the last lap but didn't have quite enough. Good race. Very Clean. Got around 240 points. I was pretty happy with that so called it an evening.

Historically, this track has been only "ok" at best for me, but I decided to run it anyway in an attempt to improve my score and keep my local #1 standing.

Slot 1: As I suspected, being the final race of the season increased participation, so I was bumped down to 2nd Split (but still door #2). This meant my best chance at grabbing meaningful points. Unfortunately I made a complete hash of qualifying, clocking a 21.1, over half a second slower than I was capable of, and starting P11 as a result. Unfortunately I didn't get a 2nd lap in because someone ahead ruined their first lap and resumed their 2nd lap right in front of me as I completed my first. While it didn't ruin my first lap (I did that on my own...) it meant, I was stuck behind them as they proceeded to mess up every corner in front of me, and there wasn't enough time to back off and try for a 3rd lap. The start was expectedly chaotic, and I was almost spun in the middle of T1 but ultimately came out in the same position I started in. Ultimately I finished P7 for 205 points, which wouldn't do anything for my score.

Slot 2: Also as expected, I got thrown in Top Split since participation predictably dropped. I qualified P19 and finished P16, but really probably should've been P18 if 2 of the cars ahead of me hadn't run into fuel issues (one didn't take fuel when they pitted and had to conserve HEAVILY the 2nd stint, and the other ran out of fuel on the last lap near the finish). Obviously not worth meaningful points.

Slot 3: Set my best time of the night (what I should've set in Slot 1), good for P13. Got dumped down to P18 out of T1 before settling around 15th I think. I eventually worked my way up to 13th in the 2nd stint, only to abruptly run out talent and hit the sausage at T6 (the corner before the Corkscrew), putting me onto the sand and turning me sideways across the car directly behind me, who then spun me (obviously not his fault since I was already sideways in front of him). That cost me 2 spots, and either I just completely lost my rhythm, or the spin destroyed my tires, but after that I could not stop making mistakes and I eventually found myself down in 18th with 3 cars directly in front of me. I decided to not bother saving fuel the final 2 laps since I was so far down the order fighting for worthless points. I was either going to get some of my positions back, or I wasn't going to finish. Someone ahead did go off at Rainey on the last lap, but by then I'd already burned too much fuel, and I ran out just before the final corner and was re-passed. I then got DQ'd for doing burnouts because there was no point in finishing by then.

A disappointing ending to a very "meh" season honestly. My final score for the season is 904, a full 85 points less than last season. I'll post a more detailed comparison when they calculate the final positions tomorrow, but this season was rather uninspiring. I only did the majority of it because I felt "obligated" to get a full compliment of 4 scores since I was already planning to do the X2019 and SSRX races (the only 2 that even remotely interested me), and I still had my goal of all 200+ point scores if I was gonna bother with it at all.

This season's results:
1632400823653.png

Total points: 904

Last season's results:
1632401043141.png

Total points:989

Observations
  • Despite scoring 85 fewer points compared to last season, I finished 4 spots better overall this season. Really gives you an indication about just how much less participation there was this season.
  • I still finished #1 in Michigan in both championships, but in the first season, it was because my main competition just didn't bother with Nation's. This time, they did compete, and every time we were in the same slot, they outqualified me, and they finished ahead of me every time except once when someone took them out on Lap 1 at the MX-5 TC race. I only finished ahead of them because I did well in the rounds and slots they didn't show up for. It was a close battle, because even when they finished ahead of me, they were easily within visual range. I would've won by only 5 points had they kept their first result from last night, but since they already had 2nd in the Michigan standings guaranteed, I guess they decided to just try to beat me with an even better result, which unfortunately (for them) didn't pan out when we got thrown into Top Split in Slot 2 and we both finished outside the Top 10.
  • The lack of participation meant I got stuck in Top Split for almost every slot, which probably further ruined my chances at more points, since even if I waited until later slots, I was usually going to be racing against aliens and might have a shot at 5th place AT BEST, and waiting even later would've put me in a room with DR so low I would've HAD to win to get as score I was happy with. Plus with the 2nd half of the season being on Wednesdays, I usually couldn't do anything after Slot 3 anyway (although I did run Slot 4 at Alsace and did get decent points for a win).
  • Like many people, I found this season to be rather boring. Like I mentioned in my race summary, I only did the majority of races because I felt like once I did 1, I had to do at least 4 so I did a "full" championship, and if I was gonna do a full championship, I still wanted to make sure all my scores were over 200 points. I was gonna do SSRX for sure, because why not, so that basically committed me to a full season...
  • Not only was this season boring, but none of the races fully suited my skillset either.
    • I'm pretty decent at the X2019, but I'm terrible at Sardegna, so they pretty much cancelled each other out.
    • I've gotten decent results in both Gr.2 and in races at RBR, but driving a car that's already prone to snap oversteer on worn rear tires wasn't fun.
    • I also love oval racing, but prefer BMB since you have to brake or at least lift; SSRX suits pretty much everyone's driving style since it's just "don't lift, don't crash" and doesn't do much to separate different skillsets like BMB does.
  • I should've taken a gamble for more points at SSRX instead of settling for 234. It would've moved me up considerably in the standings.
  • My BEST score from this season (234) is only 2 points more than my WORST score from last season.
    • Still, my WORST score this season (226) is better than my BEST score from the 2020 official season (216).
    • There was also no META round for me like there was with the kart race last season (still my highest ever score in FIA with the current points system). All the more reason I should've gone for more points at SSRX.

These are my results for the season.

Very happy considering I made huge progress, transitioning from DR B to A in those last 5 months or so. I raced all of the 10 events as best as I could, with all the passion I have for GT. They all were A/S lobbies.

The first races were much more difficult (having to race Lago Maggiore and Dragon Trail in reverse is not my CoD of tea), but I managed to get back up and gain some confidence, even getting a solid pole/win at my favorite track, the Nordschleife.
Special thanks @Mistah MCA and his helpful guides which really helped me preparing for those events. These are gold. I also learned that you can never practice enough for an event, especially in higher lobbies. Competition is fierce.
Of course there's been a few downers for me, including an FIA race at ssrx (seriously?), the penalty system being completely dropped and the lack of participation overall. Other than that, I can't complain. Had a lots of fun. Thanks to PD still, organizing this while working on GT7 and having to deal with all of the Covid related issues . I do believe they care about their fans in some kind of way... Lets hope we get a little exhibition season before GT7 comes out.

As for yesterdays race, I had to wait 'till the third slot for something great to happen. Slow rsr qualified on 13th spot , but was 7th after only a few turns. I raced wisely, letting a couple of faster guys pass me while keeping a good pace on track. Finished P6 with almost no fuel left. Job Done. Just enough points to get in my province's top 10, and almost enough to be in the top 100 of our North American rankings. Pretty cool if you ask me :). Last round of manu @ Fuji coming up, hope things will turn out great, but they actually don't when it comes to driving the 86 this season. On this note, I wish you all the best, thanks to all the clean racers and stay safe. Cheers folks!
