Happy that Mostert is competing in the first race of TCR at least. With any luck he might be lifting up two trophies next weekend. 😉

Pretty good effort from Chaz to qualify 7th with little practice. Hopefully he can do enough in the first race to lock up the championship.

TOCA confirms TBL licence holders for the 2022 BTCC season. A total grid of 32 cars has been announced, with three extra TBLs being loaned to selected teams on a single-season basis by TOCA themselves.

Key changes include:
  • One loaned TBL each for Team Dynamics (3 cars), Speedworks (3 cars) and BTC Racing (4 cars).
  • The transfer of Trade Price Car's TBLs to Excelr8, which now has a potential 4-car line-up.
  • The transfer of BMR Racing's single TBL (with which Ash Sutton won the 2021 title) to Aiden Moffat Racing, leaving the latter with two.

Must try harder Alan (at reducing grid sizes that is).

As problems go, having an excess of entries is a nicer issue to have. Another mark at the strength of the NGTC era really, that interest remains strong.

With silly season truly underway, these TBL changes open the door for some interesting moves. With BTC and Team Dynamics now with 4 and 3 TBL's respectively, especially for Cammish to return. Whether that's at Dynamics for the 3 car line-up they wanted last year, or potentially elsewhere, away from either squad in something that's not a Honda.

Various rumours are doing the rounds as per this time of year, one which involves Laser Tools/BMR. There's murmurs of change, within the team, regarding unrest at Laser Tools (how true any of that is remains to be seen). Then with Sutton, whether he jumps ship to a different team, though I'd be surprised to see him in anything other than an Infiniti, either way. Partly fuelled by the TBL changes I suspect, as Boardley's reportedly (via Autosport) leaving LTR and the BTCC. I suspect some news may be brewing, mostly around the Team HARD + Laser Tools/BMR dynamic, and how the TBL's get used between them. But again, all just speculation for now from what I've seen/heard. Along with resurfacing of the old BMR Jaguar rumours again, so classic silly season then ...

Elsewhere, with Chilton leaving Ciceley that leaves a space. I'd expect him to return to FWD machinery if he does stay, as he struggled to gel with the 3-Series this year. Speaking of which, with Oliphant taking a sabbatical it leaves at least 1 of WSR's seats vacant. Interested to see how the 3 seats at Speedworks work out too, expecting Butcher to stay there.

There's plenty of other rumours circling around, perhaps exacerbated by the reg changes with hybrid power next year, which in itself I'm fascinated to see pan out. In any case I'd say there's plenty to get interested about between now and Spring 2022.

2022 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series

Round 1: Symmons Plains – February 11-13

Round 2: Phillip Island – March 18-20

Round 3: Mount Panorama, Bathurst – April 15-17

Round 4: TBA, NSW

Round 5: Queensland Raceway – August 5-7

Round 6: Sandown – September 16-18

Round 7: Supercheap Auto Bathurst International – November 11-13

Doesn't seem to be any clashes with Supercars events. Hopefully this means Chaz will defend the title. And hoping too that the Bathurst International is actually able to go ahead. Would be cool to see some international teams and drivers down here for that.

Definitely hope so. If the WTCR & USATCR Hyundai teams can bring their Elantras and Velosters over, would be cool. Cupra and MG TCRs making the grid are a must. Still wondering about that Corolla program.

edit: WELL, hopefully, the series will have a round at Perth and SA. Adelaide sounds tasty. Get GT4 at an event too. Haven’t heard squat from that series here.

Beat me to it, was just about to post the same news 👍.

Many people may have expected Cammish to return in a Honda, whether at Team Dynamics or BTC Racing. Perhaps why this move has a little more surprise about it I feel.

Along with Motorbase bringing NAPA in, it marks out their intentions for 2022. Cammish is a strong starting point for that driver lineup, great move for both really.

Aiden Moffat and BRDC Formula 3/GB3 graduate Dexter Patterson confirmed for Laser Tools Racing's 2022 campaign. This also involves, according to the BTCC article, a continuation of the team's existing partnership with Team HARD.

Autosport reports that a three-car entry is still planned using an extra TBL loaned by Carl Boardley, who is reportedly taking a break from driving. Still remains to be seen where Ash Sutton will end up as he is not mentioned anywhere in the BTCC article; Autosport claims that he won't be staying on with Laser Tools Racing despite his successes with the team over the past couple of seasons. Ironically, however, Sutton's engineer (Dan Millard) will be retained to work on Moffat's car...

Apparently all wasn't well with Laser/BMR/Hard/Boardley in '21. If the rumours are to be believed, then its Sutton to Motorbase.

Seems crazy for Sutton not to be in the Infiniti, such a strong combo! Having said that, if Sutton finds himself in another rear wheel drive 4 door saloon <cough>BMW<cough>next year, I wouldn't be too upset!
