I refer you to my previous post.
Not to cast any nasturtiums on anything, but Qatar have been absolutely ****ing useless until ten years ago. Then they got the World Cup hosting awarded to them and suddenly became good - like, overnight - and are now the best team in Asia, spanking Japan at the Asian Cup last year.

They won all three games in the group stage (including beating Saudi Arabia 2-0, which is nonsense), then beat Iraq, South Korea (also nonsense), UAE - who'd knocked out Australia - 4-0, and then stuck Japan 3-1 in the final. And that was the only goal they conceded in the entire tournament.

Their unmeteoric* rise has more than a whiff of brown envelope about it. As does the fact they're hosting the World Cup, in a bunch of stadiums literally built by slaves.

**** them, **** their World Cup, and **** any nation that, having qualified, doesn't withdraw from it.

*Alway confused me that one. Meteors don't rise. They fall. Very quickly, while on fire.

How bad is group A that Qatar has 2 wins? Is the group truly that atrocious or is Qatar just decent?
Qatar are not in the World Cup qualifiers, as they are the host nation... they are, however, playing friendlies.

The current Qatar squad is extremely experienced - they have almost as many caps between them as the number of migrant workers who die building their stadiums every year.

So no game that any of the other team plays against them affects those not qualified? The group A teams should sandbag then.

Sorry, I didn't realise that Qatar were actually in a group, but I see that they are... but yes, their games don't count towards qualification, the contest for qualification is only between the other teams in the group, and Qatar's fixtures are classed as international friendlies.

Qualifiers resumed tonight.

Cristiano Ronaldo has become the leading goal-scorer in internationals with his 110th and 111th goals for Portugal taking him above Ali Daei of Iran on 109, Portugal beat 2-1 with Ireland in the Algarve, John Egan scored his first Irish goal to put them in front, Ronaldo did have a penalty saved by 19-year old Gavin Bazunu but then scored the equaliser late on after some heavy Portugal pressure and then he gave Portugal the win in the 95th minute!

Elsewhere France could only draw at home to Bosnia and they had Kounde sent off and Norway-Netherlands finished 1-1 with Haaland scoring.

Men's internationals. He's joint-ninth on the all internationals list, with Alex Morgan of the USA, though he has also played six fewer games than Morgan.

Scotland's World Cup hopes were dealt a serious blow
Episode 2 Whatever GIF

Well I can't embed or link to the video clip but in the Portugal v. Ireland match Ronaldo put the ball down for a free kick and the Irish player kicked the ball away. Ronaldo sort of hit the player in the arm and he fell to the ground clutching his face. The clip stops after that so I don't know what else happened.

Ronaldo was placing the ball on the penalty spot, around the 12th minute or so. Afterwards, the ref just gave a verbal warning to both and nothing else happened, they resumed to the penalty, after almost 5 minutes of VAR check.

But did the Irish player fall to the ground like Mike Tyson had punched him?

Not really.
Pretty much Ronaldo gave him more like a push/slap in the shoulder, then the Irish player turns around, looks at Ronaldo for a second, and then goes down complaining about his face. It's like the Irish player had some internet lag, given how slow his reaction was.

Anyways, here's the video:

I saw it on ESPN FC after I got home last night. Some were actually arguing for Ronaldo to get a red card for that which would have been ridiculous.

Yellow card in the worst case scenario, which would have to be given to O'Shea aswell. I still don't get how players still fake this sort of thing, when VAR is a thing.

England just thumped Hungary 4-0 in Budapest, Sterling, Kane, Maguire and Rice with the goals. There were reports of monkey chants from behind one of the goals during the game and Hungary fans booed England taking the knee before the game.

Elsewhere it was Sweden 2-1 Spain, Estonia 2-5 Belgium, Poland 4-1 Albania, Lithuania 1-4 N.Ireland, Italy 1-1 Bulgaria and Liechtenstein 0-2 Germany.

England back to normality last night. Get a 1-0 lead from a shot-from-range because all the runs into the penalty box go nowhere. Sit happy on the 1-0 and then concede an equaliser in stoppage time.

Oh and don't forget Jordan Pickford kicking the ball straight into a Polish leg and only just stopping an embarrassing goal.

Southgate is a **** manager, and it amuses me how england has accepted him as a 'good' manager.

World Cup Semi Finals and a Euro finals, all after inheriting a mess in 2016. He used to be a poor manager (why do you have to swear in every comment you make?), but he's worked out how to get a group of players to play for each other and their nation, and he's got them to the best they've been since the late 90s. To call that a **** manager just cries out ignorance and maybe a poor judging ability?

World Cup Euro qualifiers resume from tonight.

A fire broke out at a TV gantry in Andorra's national stadium where England will play tomorrow.

Great 3-2 win for Scotland against Israel at Hampden Park tonight.

1-0 down after 5 minutes, then equalising but only to concede 1 minute later... missed a penalty right before half-time, and it was looking like the same old Scotland.

And then Scotland scored a goal, only for the referee to disallow it and consider booking the scorer for a high boot, only to then overrule himself with the help of VAR and it was back to 2-2.

Scotland missed a few great chances, but with 2 minutes of injury time gone, they missed a glorious chance at it looked like it was to be a draw... but one last attack led to a corner, and the ball was unceremoniously bundled into the net for a famous and very rare comeback win for Scotland.

Now we're clear second in the group and are now favourites for that coveted play-off spot.

Just finished Andorra 0-5 England, goals from Chilwell, Saka, Abraham, Ward-Prowse and Grealish with his first England goal.

As mentioned Scotland had a dramatic win over Israel with Scott McTominay getting a 94th minute winner, Denmark beat Moldova 4-0, Poland beat San Marino 5-0, Ireland had a return to form beating Azerbaijan 3-0 and Northern Ireland lost 2-0 away to Switzerland.

Wales got a decent point away to the Czech's after it finished 2-2 last night, Wales keeper Danny ward had a calamitous own goal.

Wales had a scrappy 1-0 win away to Estonia with Kieffer Moore scoring an equally scrappy goal on 13 minutes, Wales sat back in the second half and allowed Estonia to press and pass and have some good chances, still in third place in the group on 11 points level with Czech Republic but with a game in hand, but we do have Belgium to come!

Germany are the first Euro nation to qualify after beating North Macedonia 4-0 and Netherlands had a big 6-0 win over Giibraltar.

Disappointing night for England who drew 1-1 at home to Hungary, Hungary took the lead from the penalty spot with Sallai converting, it was a debatable penalty decision as it looked like Shaw's high boot didn't make contact with the players head, Stones scored from a free kick not long after, England dominated much of the game as you'd expect but they weren't clinical with chance after chance going begging, Kane had another bad night, England were lacklustre.

There was crowd trouble from a section of the Hungarian fans, they booed taking the knee and clashed with police with one arrest made, they also lit a big flare after their goal, they caused trouble last time they played England in Budapest last month with racist abuse and were punished by UEFA.

Elsewhere Scotland beat Faroe Islands with a late Dykes goal, Northern Ireland lost to Bulgaria 2-1 and Portugal beat Luxembourg 5-0 with Ronaldo scoring a hat-trick.

Back to the qualifiers tonight, good result for Ireland who drew 0-0 at home to Portugal, quite an even game and quite feisty at times too with both sides picking up three yellows and Pepe sent off for Portugal for two yellows.

Elsewhere Germany hammered Liechtenstein 9-0 and Croatia beat Malta 7-1 plus Wales somehow managed to qualify for the play-offs despite not kicking a ball nor are we even in second place in our group, apparently its because Spain beat Greece 1-0...
