Nice grid size. Shame no E63s or Volvos.
I’m pretty sure the Volvos are in Sweden in a Volvo museum, which I think is sad they should’ve been allowed to have at least kept one here and it should be racing around somewhere. They would be worth millions since I believe they only made the two. Also the fact one of them was driven by a future champion which would make it worth a million to.

You piqued my interest. According to this there was actually three made.

Well I just learnt something new today, I thought there was only two as well. for that.👍

And I agree, (a whole) one should've been left here, at least as a museum piece.

An interesting video on the engine weights of the Camaro by BJR.

I wonder why they didn't show the how much they were putting on the undertray area. :odd:

At least there's still a couple of WAU Commodores I can cheer for.
True.
It’s still a trip there’s no more Holden.

Going to be hot in Newcastle next couple days. May get rain on Sunday.

Drove through the foreshore this morning(5:30am). Track is done and Gate 1 is up. Lots of fan entry barricades still yet to be placed. Supercars merchandise tents are up with volunteers guarding/sitting in front of them. Crazy that it's been so long since the last event here.

Well this is getting interesting. We may have neither side willing to sign off on the cars given JW's earlier comment.

“We were ready to sign off on the car on the last day (of VCAT testing), and we are still ready to sign off on the car provided there are no changes. But the other side wants to keep changing things around, even though it’s quarter to midnight.''

What a 💩 show!

This is just embarrassing now, race week and we still haven’t sorted all of this out. Embarrassing.

This article seems a bit more positive to me, suggesting it's a shifting of aero from rear to front on the Camaro... although who knows when it will occur.
Less rear should be relatively easy to achieve by just laying the wing down a bit, but I'm not sure how they'll go about fixing the front given there's no undertray to lengthen like in the past.

Edit: Woohoo! It seems like (from the article below) it's been sorted and signed off on... and about bloody time!

Looking forward to this weekends racing. :D

I don't think of it like that, Chevrolet and Holden are pretty much the same thing regardless.

In other stories, definitely excited for this season, though the regulations cluster will definitely cause a storm (how long did they have to plan this?) This is the first season I've been excited for since Covid hit, so I hope Gen 3 gets its act together after a couple of races even though it should've been at the start.

By the way, I'm getting tickets for the Newcastle 500 and I want to know if I should get the Grandstand Tickets? Its forecast to rain on Sunday so I think General Admission won't be the way to go and I can afford Grandstand Tickets so Money isn't an issue. Need to make the decision quick though because there are few Grandstand spots left

I’ve got GA tickets. So, it’s probably about where you want to hole up. There is cover/overhangs at the Great Northern Hotel(just after Turn 1) and some buildings up Watt Street, a couple buildings down the bottom of the Esplanade(around Liquid Gold Cafe) and between there and Scott Street(in front of the ice cream shop). I watched from there the last race.

I don't remember much covers from my last visit (at least that wasn't overly packed) so that's where most of my concern is, I'm normally fine with GA because the grass hill right at Turn 2 is a really good spot to watch regardless but, it definitely won't be if it rains

If it’s raining, with GA tickets, you want to be infield around the buildings. The old railway, behind the fountain and the concert area, has cover, but unless there’s a screen, won’t see much.

Decided to go for the GA Tickets afterall.

Can't wait to get going :D. I think going to the Season opener is more exciting than the Season finale myself

I've always thought that as well. It's the anticipation that gets me going every time. This season even more so with new cars.

With the last round it's only any good if the points are close and the championship is still alive, and then only if you're team/driver is one of the ones still in the fight... and then only if they win. :sly: Too many variables!

Hopefully it won't rain too much and ruin it for you guys that are going, but just enough to make it interesting.

Couldn’t agree more, everything just feels new and fresh especially with the new cars rolling out this year. You’ll be in for a great time.

Golding and Slade snuck in front of me and I said, “Yooouuu’re kinda late.”
Slade slyly said, “yyyeeeeeeaaaaahhhhhhhh”.

Edit: This is crazy.

Sucksthey didn’t bother to actually join together and race a couple cars to get things right. Similar to Super GT.
Make sure the series thrives by keeping the cars competitive. Not just “we’ll see what happens”.

To be fair, Super GT has more of a grip on its drivers and manufacturers and will pretty much go "play by our rules and you'll like it", and any slight parity differences is neutered by the Weight Ballast System to keep things close without additional parity changes and the Tyre War with Tyre manufacturers competing against each other on top.

I do think Supercars would benefit more with this system but I don't think they have strong grip on the manufacturers or drivers.

For sure. One of the biggest problems, guess I’m answering my own theory, Supercars act like any local council in Australia.

Seriously, though, Supercars keep shooting itself with making hard stances with a formula and expect “outsiders” to concede. It’s like holding yourself hostage. People think you’re not all there.

They certainly should've put them in race conditions before now and it probably should've been done with Cam Waters driving the Camaro and SVG driving the Mustang. They wouldn't dare sandbag in the opposing camps car.

Meanwhile, JW is yet to learn the meaning of ''parity''.

Whincup told Fox Sports that, as far as he's concerned, parity was achieved in the initial VCAT last November.

GM and Supercars are understood to have both been happy to sign off on the aero after that test, with Ford the missing piece of the puzzle.

“We achieved [parity] in VCAT 1,” Whincup said.

“That was proven at VCAT 2, because there was one small change made to the Camaro — we’re talking four or five kilos of downforce or drag; we’re talking very, very small numbers and small percentages.

“Unfortunately we just had to talk about it and go around in circles for the months in between [November] and yesterday to get sign-off from Ford on the car to start racing.”

How does he not understand that having to make a change because the cars were unequal does not mean they're equal (paritised).:crazy: And what team wouldn't want to be on the right side of 4-5kgs of downforce or drag? And on the right side of aero balance as well?

Rumour is that Ford have already got a new rear wing in the pipeline but it couldn't be produced in time so this stopgap measure was introduced

Source for JW's comment.

Hmm, not sure I’m feeling this new timing board. Looks like it was quickly whipped up overnight. But as long as it actually works properly this year…
Yeah wish it was a bit more transparent so it didn’t quite take up so much of the screen, also what’s with some name being darkened and some light?

Man does watching the Super2/3 grid make me feel old. 2nd generation Morris, Seton, Kelly and a third gen Johnson. How is this possible, where has the time gone? 😭
