Stick at it mate it's really not that bad.

definitely agree, the computer ghost is pretty good for the middle portion of the lap, but you should be able to get some time on it the first 2 corners and especially towards the end of the lap since the last bend before the chicane, which you can take more or less straight for a significant time gain

This w/end I did redline, photo finish and about half of elements and I think the one that took me the longest was the "dezir drift" man that was nasty...

Thanks for getting me motivation to try Venom Hot Lap 2 again. Tried it yesterday and after much attempts I got this sadistic time. Wait sadistic? Few attempts later this time smiled at me very evil. :yuck: :grumpy:

Trying it again now. To be honest I'm too stupid for the looong 'straight-left' corner. Don't know where to brake and anything, always losing time/speed at this point.

you mean the long straight left after the straight? that probably took me the longest to learn, you can check kie's video here for some pointers (he's quite fast, it's annoying in the evo studios challenges as he's always in the lead :) )

still can't believe he's doing this in 3rd person, I cannot drive road tracks this way at all, but basically that corner is a double apex, you have to start braking, hit the first apex about 1/3rd of the way through while still trail braking, go a bit wider then turn in and hit the second apex on your way out.

I don't understand how folks can drive third-person either. I mean, we've all done it, probably started out that way on an NFS game back when there was no other choice - now though, it just cannot do it.

Agreed about Kie's times - always up there on the top of any challenge he does.

At last! I-did-it!! 225 stars (all in the same tour too )

I finally got that damn Pagani drift event, and then the lightweight star for a 1:23 at Sentraltind (I was saving that for after the Pagani event.)

awesome, the drift events are sooo hard, have you done the dezir drift in the other tour? that was the hardest for me up to now (still the last two tours to go)

I was always a bumper view guy, but I use chase view in DC. I don't like bumper view in DC because it's placed far too low, so I switched to chase because I found myself to be fastest in that view in this game. Usually I hate chase view because it always feels disconnected/unresponsive and/or floaty, but I do not get that feeling in DC at all when using chase view.

Thanks - yeah, that DeZir one is weird as the car kicks its rear out all by itself if you even let off the throttle whilst turning - I saw that the DLC tour packs seem to have a lot more drifting...

That's fair enough :) There can be a bit of elitism surrounding the 'driver's view' but hey, what you're happiest with is always best I think. I know what you mean about the other views in most games being less developed. I like trying different views with DC and found this by accident:

I haven't tried it on the other open wheeled cars yet, but it really gives a great sense of sweeping around those corners in the Caterham.

Beautiful. :)

To clarify further: I use chase view if I am trying to be as fast as possible, but I often use other views (mostly bumper or dashboard) for the increased immersion and if I don't care about being as fast as possible.

awesome!

in terms of driving view if you have a driving cockpit at home you are sitting with the monitor more or less where the windshield would be, it does not make sense that you would see the interior of the car at all and especially not the wheel! the most realistic views in DC in terms of angle is probably the cam just behind the windshield (the one between bonnet and inside the car), which is fine in the dry but in the wet it can get a bit hard to see unfortunately due to wipers so I personally nearly always use bonnet.

Driving with the full cockpit camera feels like driving from the back seat, because your "head" would be where the monitor surface is in 3d, but your real "head" is where the backseat would be... it is definitely possible to drive that way but I wouldn't call it "realistic" with that FOV

Elitists aren't always realistic ;)

It's one of the things I like about DC - the ability for all levels of player to pick the game up and have fun. Okay, some of the recent tweaks haven't been so popular, but in general, it's been a fun and enjoyable game that lets you do it how you like. The only ones I've seen complaining about the game really have been sim-only players, who somehow expected it to be sim-friendly.

Anyway, the upshot of all that, is perhaps I should give the chase cam a go as well :)

heh, outside of GT (before getting a PS4) and DC now I am mostly a PC sim player actually (have AC, played a ton of grand prix legends, as well as RBR and GTR2, looking forward to pcars) but there's just something about DC that rubs me the right way, as much as I've also enjoyed over the years more arcadish stuff like dirt2 and grid, DC is the first "non sim" that feels to me hit the nail on the head when it comes to "fun, easy to pick up, hard to master", not to mention that I've always hated hated hated hated doing setups (just downloaded them) so not having them in the first place makes the game that much more fun for me.

I just wish the online was easier to get good quality races in, some sort of matchmaking based on laptimes would make it absolutely phenomenal, the few times I got in races with others around similar laptimes it was incredible... as of now I am having fun with the evo challenges (outside the past week or so when I've been working on getting all the stars :) ) but being able to have competitive online races without being in a league would be amazing

I also am hoping evo will revert the penalties soon because it should never ever ever ever be faster to hit a wall than to drive properly: you hit a wall you either get the laptime dq'd or you go to zero speed for 5 seconds (which is the same thing)

Oh, I hear that alright. I like my sim games, but it takes me so much time to do the set-ups that I just don't seem to have the energy anymore.

The private lobbies idea should be good for everyone who likes online though - league or not. Hopefully that shouldn't be too long in coming.

Yes, I meant this one. Thank you much for the video and tips, but right after (few attempts later) I posted I managed to beat the 1.20 time! :) Got something around 1.19.6xx. I was VERY bad and slow at the start, possible my slowest beginning ever, but somehow I was able to catch up the develop replay ghost. Maybe I would have got 1.18.xxx with a good start.. I can upload a video of it, if someone is interested. Also 3rd person by the way.

Anyway, I was finally able to beat the permitted time and this means: 495/495 stars

Thank you all again for getting me motivated and the tips. And don't be harsh with my excellent english skills. :P

im 223/225!!! i cant get past the venom hot lap and one other in the last group of races... i cant remember which one it is.

I'm currently at 405/405. :D I haven't bought Apex and Redline yet, dunno if I will since they have a car pack attatched.

the new tours still seem on the easy side, I have only done half of downforce and a bit of the other, would like to have some venom hot lap 3 kinda challenges too :) I think tours should have a mix of hard and easy, this said I am still having tons of fun on the evo challenges so not complaining at all...

Finally got 315/315 stars, I hate that avg. Speed face off in the photo finish trophy round 2. Petrol power is supreme!

Also at 585/585, the 13 lap race was a nice change with fast pace, I had to complete the event 4 times to get all stars.

I'm almost there. This game is so good that getting all stars is fun rather than a sore grind.

I have 3 or 4 time trials left (including the Venom) to complete 225 stars. I have this little project of beating and recording all time trials, when I learned the replay feature was upon us saved them for later so I can use this new feature.

495/495, don't like the look of Redline and Apex so I won't be purchasing them. Will be getting Pace Setter on release however.
