Only just seen this, sadly it is from my home town back in the uk.

they should bring back hanging or public stoning for something like this!

35 years in prison, I'm pretty sure his fellow inmates will constantly torment him for the crimes he committed, more effective than even a death penalty.

He will be put in the high risk wing however he will have to come into contact with other inmates eventually and will certainly recieve some 'rough justice'.
I have no sympathy and know that guards/police certainly used to allow these situations to happen to some degree to child killers/molesters.

'Life sentence' does mean life sentence in English/Welsh courts but by law there is a minimum term to be served before the prisoner can apply for parole. However in exceptional cases life can mean forever if the judge decrees the sentence a 'whole life order'.

Tree'd by Sphinx.

Indeed, I don't see this man being released at any point after such a vicious crime.

Life sentence and death penalty both have in common that the prisoner are not permitted to be released from the jail until he dies after all... just a matter of difference of time length when he's barely allowed to have a very limited life as a living person.

If i were a judge, my sentencing would be life sentence, however- i would also award to the family of the woman a little something extra "you are awarded by the state 2 hours of time alone with the convicted, to ask questions, or do... whatever you please. we will turn off the cameras in that room for two hours." one hour for each person he took from them

Probably costs more money to keep him in jail than to execute him. People like this don't deserve taxpayers' money.

I don't really think proper justice could ever be achieved due to the nature of the actual crime, but I always think torture should be avoided. In my opinion this guy should be hanged.

Unfortunately...

We no longer have Victorian attitudes towards prison otherwise life would be life indefinitely, there would be a distinct lack of rehabilitation and paedophiles wouldn't accidentally be released early.

Because of things such as recognition of human rights we're not allowed to simply lock people in a hole and throw away the key, even if we want to.

Bolded added for clarification.

There are zero capital punishment incurring offences left in the United Kingdom. And that's how it will stay unless the UK leaves the Council of Europe. Until that happens, any petitions are totally ineffective at changing the law.

Human rights, huh. If someone shows the lack of ability to be humane, they should be treated the same. When someone decides to act inhumane, they should forfeit their human rights.
I think the "right" should be a privilege, but I'll defer the rest of my points to the human rights thread, if I choose to tread over there.

I'm sure someone will point out somewhere, at sometime, that this gent was probably insane. It's come to barbarianism is being accepted, in part, in our society. This isn't aimed at any country, or part of the world... it's overall.

Wow. This is disgusting. Can't believe I missed this.

We should bring back the death penalty in my opinion but limit the amount of appeals that can be lodged and set a maximum time between sentencing and carrying out the sentence.
As a legal expert (sarcasm) I would suggest 2 appeals and 2 years.
Methods could be lethal injection or a single bullet to the head 👍

That's a ridiculous idea. I don't think you would feel the same way if someone was given the death penalty then was killed only for some evidence clearing his name to turn up later.

It's not completely unheard of for a conviction to be overturned more than two years later. This is why I'm glad we don't have a death penalty. Until we can be absolutely sure that the person is guilty beyond doubt then we shouldn't be killing them.
