Formula One Replaces Grid Girls with Grid Kids Program for 2018 Season

At least one guy is happy about this.

Cool. Loved watching little kids racing the Power Wheels F1 cars. Shame the Grid Girls couldn't collaborate with the kids as sponsors for each event. 💡

So now they are going to use children which they don't have to pay nothing.
They had to pay the grid girls.
Last time I checked most of the girls doing these sort of events were UNI students trying to make some money on the side. At least that's how it is in Australia. So now we have reduced the employment pool that specifically employed women. Brilliant idea, not.
I don't see why they cannot have both.
Sorry, you can call me what you will but that sounds like a cost cutting exercise to me. Nothing about women's rights or "modern day social norms" as they called it.

Also coming from an Australian viewpoint F1 is dyeing in my eyes.
They have screwed over the most important aspect you need to promote F1 or any sport. Free or reasonably priced live TV viewing.
It used to be free not so long ago on Channel 10.
It then reduced to only 1 in 3 races live and the other 2 delayed by a day and chopped down to 1 hour including ads.
As Channel 10 went bankrupt towards the end of last year, its now gone.
If you want to see it all live here you now get ripped. You need to have Foxtel. So a cable pack is $65 a month or a live streaming one is $39 a month. Why so much, well you get a whole heap of other channels which I don't want. If Foxtel had some brains they would let you just pay to watch the programs you wanted on their online platform. But nope, not happening, you need the whole damn package.
I've watched most F1 races since 1997. Now, no thanks. Its becoming cost prohibitive here.
Supposedly with Channel 10 being resurrected they will be getting the 1 in 3 lives race deals again for this year. But I'm not holding my breath.

Football and rugby have been using kids to accompany the players onto the pitch for years. I guess it's a move to both make the game/event more family friendly, maybe promote various kids charities and also an opportunity for some local kids to have a really special day out. 👍

In related news, the NFL has announced that cheerleaders have also been replaced with Children.

"We don't even have to buy new outfits as the old ones fit for the most part" said Commissioner Goodell on Monday, to the confusion and outrage of many.

F1 really has been underperforming in the nonce demographic recently though.

What do you think the Red Bull young driver program's really about?

Cartoon adverts. Childish soap box races. Hyperactive children due to energy drink consumption - It's a grooming ring!

I'm beginning to think the move from grid girls to grid kids is a strategic demographic plan to rebuild viability of the fan base. Aging fans of motorsports and contact sports need to be replaced by youth who neither drive, race nor engage in much if any physical activity.

Wow, it’s amazing how bad it is there  I’d think in a big motorsports country like Australia, F1 would have great coverage. Here in the US, every F1 race is shown live on cable. Seems really backwards to me.

So kids "standing around doing nothing being window dressing" (as the feminists believe) is OK but grown women doing it of their own volition isn't...

Also, little girl standing in conservative outfit OK, woman standing in conservative outfit not OK???

Wow they really don't see the hypocrisy.

I understand this in Football, or in any of the team-based sports, where they(kids) can wear opposite dresses as a sign of fair-play thing, kind of. However, in Motorsport I am unable to imagine small kid holding a sign with driver number / name / national flag for the whole hour of pre-start procedure...

If this is not what "grid-kids" will be supposed to do, then there is no need to replace grid-girls at all. If they (F1) want to promote a great day to the kids they will chose and to their families, just simply invite them into paddock and support them with a great day anyway. No need to change of whatever they think of with this. BTW, will they also replace the Champagne in podium ceremony to a bubbly lemonade as a result of replacing grid-girls with grid-kids?

I see already how each and every other race series will Laugh Out Loud on F1 (imaginary) for this step...

PS: Motorsport - nice girls and strong engines, well, seems no more fam... 👎 for this step (leap)...

PS2: I have no idea where this sick world is heading, but I am skeptic about it's sanity.

I’m starting to thing one of the reasons porn is so popular is because it’s quickly becoming the only form of entertainment that’s impossible to make “family friendly” (at least legally and morally).

I get that getting young people into the sport is important, but it would be nice to go to an event without kids being everywhere.

Brave new world...

Not really in agreement with porn statement other than pc brigade can't censor it or tell you what to do (yet). People bring their kids to the gym ....why?
There is a time and a place for children F1 racing isn't it because they can't afford the tickets and they can't drive it's nothing more than wishful thinking its participation by proxy and its a joke because generally most people can't afford the price of admission to these elitist disciplines kids aren't going to be able to do it in the future so don't get their hopes up. Drive the sport through academies and real world driving experience not PR ...makes me sick!
