Was the 996 the only one with a Mezger engine?

The Mezger lasted until the end of the 997.2 generation in the road cars.

After reading this last night I just had to get on Forza Horizon 4 and drive around britain in a 996 GT3 in red just like the one in this article first thing in the morning. Love the superb handling and analog feel of the older cars.

Never felt the 991.1, but the .2 GT3 was a return to form.
