To me, they look very close as if distant cousins.

Except for different front ends and the Rapide having a sleeker look, the cars do look quite a bit alike.

Yeah, they look alike. They both have four doors and a big engine in front. :D

The Maser has a chunkier, more muscular look, straight, almost slab-sided lines and a taller, more squared off greenhouse.

The Aston is more curvaceous... lower cowl, less bodywork over the fender flares, the same steeply raked windshield and low cockpit as the DB7 and DB9. There's almost a Coke-bottle like constriction down the flanks. The small triangular rear window really drives home the fact that this is a coupe derived design, especially when compared to the huge upright rear glass on the Maser.

The only similar design cues are the two swage lines on the hood (pure coincidence).

But yes, it is squarely targetted at the Quattroporte.

Looks like the name "Rapide" has appeared on Astons before: Lagonda Rapide, a four door saloon based on DB4.
It's been on a couple before, but to me, the name Rapide doesn't make me think of something thats class which this car is. It's a classic Aston name, but I don't like it all the same, love the car, hate the name.

I'll take a Rapide any day over a Quattroporte (I hate that name too).

Who wouldn't?? The Rapide certainly looks better than the Mas. :yuck:

I don't mind the name if the car is gonna look like that. Quattroporte isn't that exciting either, it only means "four doors"! :D

Oh and I don't really see the resemblance with the two cars though, I think they are both gorgeous but the Aston is far superior!

I don't see any real resemblance either other than they're both 4 door gt's.

I see a resemblance in the form of both cars having vented front quarter panels and honizontal bars on the grills. Apart from that, nothing! :dopey: :dunce:

i dont think the aston and the quattroporte look alike at all...the aston is better looking.
i just hope that aston decides to give it one of them bypass exhaust valves like they do with the other cars...a combination of those looks and the sound of the V12 vanquish:drool: and you've got urself a winner.

I love the Quattroporte name... Saying it out loud sounds so elegant (assuming youre saying it correctly), and has a much better appeal to it than just Raptide.

"Hey kids, get outa that there swimmin hole, that things gotta nasty Raptide! Watch out na!"

Eh...it's not bad looking, I'd take it over an S-class but not over a M5. It looks very "aftermarket" to me, not unlike some of those horrid Lamborghini Diablo strech limos. Seeing as it was not done by Aston Martin themselves, and looks like it shares a lot of parts with the DB9 (obviously) it's not suprising.

Great looking car and the future can only look good for Aston Martin.

However
Topgear
"It would be great for Le Mans," he suggests. "You could even sleep in the back." And you probably could, with the rear seat backs folded there's room for one - or indeed two - six footers to stretch out.
Marek Rechman (Who is 6ft 5inch)
I can sit in the back in absolute comfort.
Daily Telegraph Motoring
In fact, while the rear seats are somewhat cramped for a 6-footer, children and smaller adults should find them perfectley acceptable.

That's kind of what I was trying to say. It doesn't look like they tried to look at the car as a whole and change it to look right for a four door. Instead, it looks like a half-decent stretch job.

Well your free to think that, but I dissagree strongly, I think it looks ace.

i prefer the x-type race car (its in my avatar) but i'd have a quattrorte,m5,or bentley continental or flying spur, ove the 'rapide' what kind of a name is that?

It's a name with history and heritage, I personally don't like it myself, but the name doesn't make or break a great car.

Mmmm. . . nice and, practical. It is a resurrection of this ;

AMV8 Lagonda, which is the late seventies V8 given the four door treatment which was the precursor for
this expensive Lagonda ( and Tickford conversion );

:eek:

There were always LWB concepts mooted at DavidBrown's;

But the DB9 if a FAR more tasteful candidate for a simple LWB conversion , still think the old Lagonda itself had something as a standalone saloon for the marque even if it's electronic gearbox , bad market timing ect doomed it .

FurtherEdit;

This is the oneoff Shooting Brake, but it elicits images of a 160mph Hearse! :sly: , methinks the new Viking Way to poponesclogs is A Lap Von der grünen Hölle :)
