Thanks for proven me right, Thio. :D

I didn't say controlling the throttle was impossible, I said it was pointless. Why let off the throttle when instead you can apply brakes? If the car is tuned properly, it has the same effect without losing boost or speed. The result is higher angle, faster cornering. The only time to really let off the throttle is entering the corner, so that you can brake harder. Letting off the throttle a little bit can help through the corners, just to get better response with the left-foot braking, but the idea is not to lose boost.

I'll post an example video later.

Oh okay, I see what you mean. So instead of letting go of the gas, just hold the throttle down and use the brake also to maintain speed through a corner? I think that's what I am getting out of your post, pergatory. That's the way I learned how to drift without countersteering. I guess I still have room to improve then :)

Exactly Thio, this is the same for me actually! I initially learned this way with no countersteer, and it was the only way I was able to do it without countersteer (and still is, unfortunately, but I'm happy just mastering one style at a time as I find each new style gives me a stronger base for the next one). However, I use the same method in AWD whether I'm not countersteering or slightly countersteering, and have found it tends to be the most impressive exhibition method because it requires a perfect setup and is the kind of thing that makes crowds hold their breath. Of course, it's all a matter of personal style/opinion. Also, I think I should clarify that I was being sarcastic about having it literally floored the entire time, obviously you don't want it banging into the rev limiter that's never a good thing. However, you want to give it as much throttle as possible while maintaining the correct RPM through the corner.

Well I tried to make up a video to demonstrate but I got side-tracked and ended up re-tuning my Evo. Now I've drifted around so much in that thing I swear to god I smell burnt rubber, and haven't bothered to really save anything so the video will have to wait until tomorrow. Here's something to hold you off until then:

That's Rhys Millen. He used to run the ProRally circuit in the U.S., but recently switched to drifting. Definetely the best AWD drifter I've ever seen. Notice how he has constant throttle applied except during transfers.

I heard some canto in that video!!! lol

well other than that, that was some crazie drifting by the Evo, but the Supra sucked....ruined the whole video lol

P.S. Did Rhys Millen compete in the US D1GP at Irwindale Speedway? I was there =P. A Supra driven by a US driver made it to the finals. He was an ex-Professional Rally racer. His drifts were pretty nice, but not as smooth as the Japanese drivers lol. You could really notice it when you see him drift the 1st really long corner (one whole turn of the normal speedway). The drifts were a lil jerky in the middle of them when applying counter-steer.

haha TingBoy, same here!

"I can't see anything!" lol

That was good drifting with the Evo. Can the Evo VII in GT3 do that? I never tried tuning it. I should I know :P

No, I don't think AWD are allowed in D1, or at least they would probably be frowned on. Although Rhys does put on a show so if it's allowed I think he should've competed. The Supra in that video was Orido. I suspect he may have been stunned by the amount of smoke Rhys put down... that's what it looked like to me. A moment of hesitation.

Did you see the white Apex S15 driven by Ernie? That guy's from CA. I've been told he's the best drifter in the States but messed up in the first round... I'd be so mad...

there was a GT-R R32 which was qualified to drift in D1..

Hm..I dont think he was suprized about the smoke, it looks like, to me, at least, that his angle was too high. If you look at the front tires, they were in full lock, and he let off the gas, so I think he was trying to starighten out a bit..

I don't remember lol...stupid camera died before the 1st test lap started, but I remember there being a S13 that made it to the semi finals. It was driven by some 16 year old guy. I was sooo pissed tho....and I think u misread my question =P
I asked if Rhys Millen competed in a Supra, but I guess not...lol

Yea it's a R32, but i believe I saw something about him making it a RWD car completely. Not like VCD or anything...like completely RWD

I explain this before. On Skylines it's not difficult to make then 100% RWD. I'm not exactly sure how it's done on an R32, but on an R33 it's just a matter of removing a fuse.

they should of made the camera zoom in to see what car was it

can't u just remove the front drive shafts... or would the oil leak from the case like a FWD car...

I don't know. I think it can be done on Subaru's, there's a RWD WRX Wagon drifter flotaing around in Japan at the docks.

this is crazy i didn't think that this many people were gonna post on my thread i usually make dumb threads and i thought this was gonna be one of those!! (hehehehehehehehe)

Ohhh, no, as far as I know he only drives the Evo. It's the same car he used in the ProRally circuit. I think all he did was crank up the dampers and probably removed the rally gear like the odo.

I heard about the 16-year-old. Guess he doesn't even have a license yet, or he didn't when D1 happened, anyway. Yeah he's a lucky bastard, but you can't hate him for being given what we all would've liked to be given as well. Let's just hope he is taking full advantage of his opportunity (which he must be if he made it to the semi-finals). Hell, when I was 16 I would've been happy if my parents got me a car at all. I've paid for all 3 of my cars, lived on my own since 18, and paying my own way through college. Doesn't leave much room for drifting!

If I'm not mistaken, he learned to drive manual at 13yo parking cars at his dads shop, then had tracks days at 14 or 15. Aspirations to compete and win D1.
